So like a lot of people, I played BL2 quite a bit before new gen systems came out. I’ve transferred my character (level 50) to my PS4, and have been playing and just feel like I’m not ranking up at all! My guns don’t seem to do much damage, and I feel like I’m getting no XP. Is there an area to find others to play with? I’m in no way wanting to get carried, I’ve only beat the first DLC (pirate one) and would like to enjoy the rest, but I just feel lost and not knowing what to do anymore. Should I be farming for guns at my level that help me fight higher ranked enemies, etc. would love some direction, and maybe a couple people to play with, either way…any input is appreciated.
Sounds like you’ve hit the TVHM “ceiling” - XP is dialled back once you hit 50 so you don’t end up critically undergunned when you go into UVHM (since the weapons you take with you will still be level 50)
If you want to get the XP, start UVHM.
I’ve beat the game like 4 times on UVHM. Do I need to reset ?
Sorry, I thought your were doing TVHM for some reason. If you hit level 72 in UVHM, that’s it unless you do digistruct peak and the OP level stuff.
Its a grind to get to 72, but you should maybe try to get some better weapons. XP grinding is prob the best you could do.
Based on how you describe your problem, am I to understand that you’re not levelling beyond level 50? If that’s the case then you have not purchased or installed the first level cap upgrade which allows you to gain more xps beyond 50 and up to 61. Then from 61 you will need the next level cap upgrade to 72 which includes digistruct peak to allow you to obtain your OP (overpower) level 1 through 8.
If you’re on PS4 now I’m assuming its the handsome jack collection which I thought includes the level cap upgrades (at least the first one to 61). Anyone can chime in on this. But the odd thing is it shouldnt be quite a grind to 61 in that you will still see some xp gain albeit a little slower you will still see some progress. Check and seemif you need to install the first level cap from your handsome jack coll discs before you complete any other mission. Goodluck.
I’m past 50, im Like halfway to 51, but I was on last night seriously for 6 hours and I’m on TVHM. I mean I moved maybe like 2 bars if that. Is my best bet to go to Ultimate Vault Hunter mode in order to obtain better weapons and rank up quicker? I just don’t know where to grind for xp or weapons. All these YouTube videos provide no help. I have no issue grinding out and working to get good weapons, I just don’t know where to start. I’ve basically just got my character from PS3 on ps4 and started doing the DLC. I beat the pirate one and I just got no xp really at all or decent guns/shields. I came back into the game with my orange guns and the bee shield and I’m just getting wrecked. Any of you on PS4 that would show me some decent places? Like I said, I’m not here to mooch, just been awhile for me and need some help. I appreciate all the help and insight so far. I’ll probably load up on UVH and see if there is a difference with xp.
Also, I was mistaken… I have not beat UVHM. Just started. Hit 51… And good god, is it tough. Is there a way to get stronger guns going into UVHM?
If you’ve done tvhm several times, perhaps it’s time to move on to uvhm. Do you have any legendary and unique weapons, grenades, shields, etc. I personally didn’t keep a lot of level 50s but what I have I can give to you which will probably help you through at least about level 55 on uvhm.
I read this about a year ago which helped me out to some extent. It sort of gives you an idea of when to play which playthrough and dlcs. Hope it helps.
I made a point to get the Magic Missile grenade (slag and slowly regenerates grenades) from the Tiny Tina dlc before I started UVHM. You’ll have to get a slag gun otherwise. That’s the annoying part of UVHM. You have to slag damn near everything to kill things in a timely manner.
Just as UntilValhalla said- slag is the key to surviving UVHM. Depending on your character (as Maya can hit both the Scorn and Ruin capstones while Gaige has Interspersed Outburst) a Magic Missile grenade is one of the best slag methods available- you won’t have to keep a slag weapon in a weapon slot and instead can keep something that kills quickly. If you can’t get a MM, try getting either the Slagga or Florentine to use- each deal decent damage and have high chances to slag when they hit. Also, match your weapon to your foes- flesh needs fire (unless they’re resistant to it- i.ie. Frostburn Canyon), armored needs corrosive while shields need shock to take them down. In normal and TVHM this might not have been as necessary but in UVHM it is. As a default use explosive weapons-there are few enemies that resist explosive damage so I use it as a default attack if I don’t have the proper element. Remeber to check vending machines and any container you see- it’s rare but legendary gear does show up in the oddest places sometimes (as well as LLM). And if you haven’t practiced it yet, start trying to hit the critical spots on enemies- they do a hell of a lot of damage if you have the skills and gear to maximize the effect…
There’s some good general advice for UVHM here:
Excellent list of tips there, some of which I have noted already. I actually love playing through UVHM now I`m a bit more competent with the game, it kind of makes Normal & TVHM seem quite boring. I am no expert gamer but I learn something new every day which only adds to my enjoyment of playing this fantastic game.
Anyways cheers for posting that list.
Weapons choice makes a massive difference in UVHM. Grinding Legendaries can be a chore but I found without at least some the game became almost impossible. But there are only a few you need to do to get ahead.
One of the easiest (and most useful) is the Unkempt Harold. You can get one fairly easily from any Torgue Vending Machine (just quit and restart to refresh the stock until one comes up) There are two easy ways to get the Torgue Tokens you need (613 of them!). Either kill the badasses in Pyro Pete’s Bar for 5 easy tokens (25 if you kill them within 2 minutes), which could be difficult if you have no decent weapons already, or do the race against the clock in a vehicle for 20 tokens within a couple of minutes. It’s hard at first but with a little practice soon becomes quite easy. Rinse and repeat and within an hour or so you’ll have the tokens you need.
Your choice of Unkempt Harold is down to you. Most swear by the Double Penetrating but they’re all good. Once you get that, everything becomes a whole lot easier! It changed my game completely.
Your next choice should be a good slag weapon. As a poster above said, Magic Missiles from the Tina DLC are excellent, although I have found with some badasses that it takes two or three before they get slagged, which can be frustrating. An easy alternative is to get the Slagga by killing Tector & Jimbo Hodunk in the Dust. I did it with my Axton and made sure my Turret dealt slag. Coming in from Lynchwood means that you will spawn right next to them, and with my turret and UnKempt Harold it took me anything from 15-30 seconds to kill them and their minions. Save and Quit, respawn and repeat. I got a Slagga in about half an hour.
The Slagga pretty much guarantees slag, so once you have that and the UH you can take on pretty much anything. Even the hardest enemies would wilt after being slagged and then pummeled by the UH. It’s amazing what a change it can make to your enjoyment of the game.
Other easy to get weapons I would recommend include:
- Tiny Tina’s Teapot, obtained from the mission You Are Cordially Invited: Tea Party in Tundra Express. Doesn’t get a lot of press but it’s an amazing Corrosive pistol and takes down even the biggest (slagged) Loaders with ease. It’s great for multiple targets, too, as it has unrivalled splash damage. One of my favourite guns.
- Captain Scarlet’s Pimpernel, obtained from the mission Don’t Copy That Floppy in Washburn Refinery. I recommend either Shock (my favourite) or Corrosive. Get Shock if you have no other decent Shock weapon. It just tears through shields and I found it was also great against Loaders even as a Shock weapon. It will also help you immeasurably if you decide to farm the Warrior, as when coupled with the Bee it just destroys his weak spot.
- Moxxi’s Heartbreaker, obtained from Moxxi after the mission Safe and Sound given by Marcus in Sanctuary. It’s one of the best non-Legendary shotguns and as a bonus also heals you.
- Sand Hawk, obtained from the mission Whoops in Wurmwater. It can be a little tricky to use but when coupled with The Bee shield it’s an absolute monster.
- The Bee shield, obtained from Hunter Hellquist in Arid Nexus Boneyard. If you have the Slagga and UH this will be a breeze. Just keep killing him until he drops this Legendary shield.
- Hoplite shield, with a reasonable drop chance from Pyro Pete the Invincible. Not everyone’s favourite, but if you play solo then the movement penalty is not very noticeable and it’s just a tank. I tend to switch between it and the Bee depending on my situation. I.e. if you expect to take a lot of damage the Bee is not very good as it has low capacity in general, whereas the Hoplite has a massive capacity. It depends on your character but if you have an Axton, Bee shield, Shock Pimpernel, UH and Sand Hawk and aren’t afraid of exploiting the glitch in Pyro Pete then it’s an easy boss to kill. Just equip the Bee, jump up on the ledge, let your turret slag him, take down his shield with the Pimpernel, then destroy him in short order with the Sand Hawk (from afar) or the UH (up close). Every time he does his signature move, just hide behind the pipe and he can’t get you. Oh, and only fire at him when your turret is active, as then he won’t target you. I get a Hoplite from him every half a dozen kills or so.
All the above are very easy to obtain, several as rewards for quests, and are well above average weapons which will get you through most, if not all UVHM with not too much trouble. The strongest by far is the UnKempt Harold, followed IMO by the Teapot. You can’t go wrong with them and it will transform your experience of the game, especially in UVHM
Umm… doesn’t it scale to lvl 50 anyways in the final repeatable mission? Well… at least they’ll do less damage and have less hp so still good advice I suppose.
I think they were referring to the tier 3 bar-room brawl on normal mode, which should indeed be a higher level mission (even in NVHM).
