##1. General Notes

  • The purpose of the topic is to depict, as best possible, all known grinding combinations with their most common results using their corresponding colors.
  • The intent is not to mislead or misinform, so please advice of any inaccuracies.
  • The Grinders can’t moonstone grind using the “DLC1 RL Berrigan” or “DLC2 Legendaries”.
  • Only Main Game Legendaries can be moonstone grind.
  • The Excalibastard is the Only Main Game Legendary Weapon that can’t be moonstone grind.
  • The moonstone quantities used for the grinding examples posted on the OP were for LV50 Weapons and Items only. This should give us a point of reference for how much moonstones we could use when needing to grind at different levels.
  • Used an XBOX One console and mostly the grinder at Nexus to test the grinding results posted on the OP.
  • The level of the weapon or item received from the grinder depends on the levels of the weapons and items used for the grind. It should be the average of the three items used, and rounded down, not up.
  • The topic is not about trying to predict or estimate the chances of getting your most wanted outcome, it’s a matter of chance and lots of luck IMHO. But I think it’s common to dashboard to try to save time and enhance the chances of an outcome. Anyways, hope this guideline will be of help and good luck with the grinds.

##2. Luneshine Bonuses
There is a chance of getting one of these weapon bonuses when moonstone grinding:

  • Harden Up: +3% Maximum Shields
  • Safeguard: Restores 3% of Shields on Kill
  • Punisher: 10% Critical Hit Damage Bonus
  • Oxygenator: Damaging Enemies Restores 1 Oxygen
  • Serenety: -20% Oxygen Consumption Rate
  • Fast Learner: Bonus to XP from Kills
  • Piercing Rounds: 30% chance to ignore enemy shields
  • Boominator: Increase Grenade Damage by 5%

[OK 1 ] + [OK 2 ] + [OK 3 ] = [OK 4 ]
[Note: The grinder treats legendary "Support Relay Oz Kits” like if they were regular Blue Oz Kits.
So the Support Relay Oz Kits can not be mixed with regular legendary Oz Kits. Picture of a Relay Oz Kit is posted in Section 15.]

##12. Shields (SHLD)
[ SHLD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] = [ SHLD 4 ] or [ SHLD 4 ]
[ SHLD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] + [ 49m ] = [ SHLD 4 ]

[ SHLD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] = [ SHLD 4 ] or [ SHLD 4 ]
[ SHLD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] + [ 75m ] = [ SHLD 4 ]

[ SLHD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] = [ SHLD 4 ] or [ SHLD 4 ]

[ SHLD 1 ] + [ SHLD 2 ] + [ SHLD 3 ] = [ SHLD 4 ]
[ Note: There are 3 type of shields that can be used as legendaries even though they are not orange in color. And they are: The glitched ETech Color “Supernova”, The Purple “Deadly Bloom” and Purple “Cryo Spike” shields. Pictures of these are posted in section 15. ]

##13. Class Mods (CM)
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] = [ CM4 ] or [ CM4 ]
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] + [ 49m ] = [ CM4 ]

[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] = [ CM4 ] or [ CM4 ]
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] + [ 75m ] = [ CM4 ]

[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] = [ CM4 ] or [ CM4 ]
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] + [ 112m ] = [ CM4 ]

[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] = [ CM4 ] or [ CM4 ]
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] + [ 75m ] = [ CM4 ]
[ CM1 ] + [ CM2 ] + [ CM3 ] = [ CM4 ]
[Note: The “Short Circuit CM” can be grinded with regular legendary CM’s even though it’s a glitched CM. The SC CM can be obtained through vendors or chest finds. A sample is posted in Section 15.]

##14. Grenade Mods (GM)
[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] = [ GM 4 ] or [ GM 4 ]
[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] + [ 49m ] = [ GM 4 ]

[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] = [ GM 4 ] or [ GM 4 ]
[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] + [ 75m ] = [ GM 4 ]

[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] = [ GM 4 ] or [ GM 4 ]
[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] + [ 112m ] = [ GM 4 ]

[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] = [ GM 4 ] or [ GM 4 ]
[ GM 1 ] + [ GM 2 ] + [ GM 3 ] = [ GM 4 ]

##15. Items of Interest (Vanilla Game)
Even though it looks legendary, the grinder treats it like if it was a blue Oz Kit

Even though technically is not a legendary (no red text on card), the grinder treats the SC CM like a regular Legendary CM. I’m not sure yet if the SC CM can spawn in the new DLC chests or vendors. I’ve gotten many of them mostly in the Vanilla Game.

The Supernova can spawn as Legendary or ETech Color

The game treats “The Cryo Spike” and “Deadly Bloom” Shields as Legendary Shields in the vanilla game and new DLC games.

The “Lobbed Four Seasons GM” mostly behaves like a regular Blue GM

##16. DLC 2 Glitch Weapons
The glitch weapons are unique and can only be grinded by themselves. They can’t be mixed so as to get a desired type weapon. No matter what combination is used, they always generate a Random Weapon. And they can’t be moonstoned.

So they will always behave like this: [ Any Gun 1 ] + [ Any Gun 2 ] + [ Any Gun 3 ] = [ RW ].

##17. DLC 2 Legendaries
###General Notes

  • DLC1 = Holodome Onslaught
  • DLC2 = Claptastic Voyage
  • DLC1 RL = The Legendary Rocket Launcher Berrigan
  • Any Leg Wpn = Any Main Game Legendary Weapon or Any DLC1 RL
  • Any Leg Shld = Any Main Game Legendary Shield (Including “The Cryo Spike Shield” and "The Deadly Bloom”)
  • Any Leg GM = Any Legendary Grenade Mod from the Main Game.
  • DLC2 Legendaries can’t be moonstone grind.

###Chance at Obtaining a “Random DLC2 Legendary Weapon”
These combinations have a chance at generating any random DLC2 Legendary Weapon.
[ DLC2 Leg Wpn ] + [ Any Leg Wpn #1 ] + [ Any Leg Wpn #2 ]
[ DLC2 Leg Wpn #1 ] + [ DLC2 Leg Wpn #2 ] + [ Any Leg Wpn #2 ]
[ DLC2 Leg Wpn #1 ] + [ DLC2 Leg Wpn #2 ] + [ DLC2 Leg Wpn #3 ]
So at least one “DLC2 Legendary” is required, and it’s not always a guarantee in obtaining a new one every grind. Main Game Legendaries are normally obtained with the occasional “DLC1 RL”.

###Chance at Obtaining a “Desired Type DLC2 Legendary Weapon” Using Purples
These two combinations can be used
[ DLC2 Leg Wpn ] + [ Any Leg Wpn ] + [ Desired Type Wpn ]
[ DLC2 Leg Wpn #1 ] + [ DLC2 Leg Wpn #2 ] + [ Desired Type Wpn ]
Again, at least one DLC2 Legendary is required. The purple weapon used has to match with the weapon type desired for the new DLC2 Legendary. Unfortunately, the grinding results will mostly consists of Purples or Main Game Legendaries. But with luck, the DLC2 Type of Legendary we seek may show up.

###Chance at Obatining the “MORQ” or “Rerouter” Shield
At least one MORQ or Rerouter shield is required using any of the following combinations
[ MORQ ] + [ Any Leg Shld #1 ] + [ Any Leg Shld #2 ]
[ Rerouter ] + [ Any Leg Shld #1 ] + [ Any Leg Shld #2 ]

[ MORQ #1 ] + [ MORQ #2 ] + [ Any Leg Shld ]
[ Rerouter #1 ] + [ Rerouter #2 ] + [ Any Leg Shld ]
[ MORQ ] + [ Rerouter ] + [ Any Leg Shld ]

[ MORQ #1 ] + [ MORQ #2 ] + [ MORQ #3 ]
[ Rerouter #1 ] + [ Rerouter #2 ] + [ Rerouter #3 ]
Any of these combinations can yield the same result. It’s either going to be a “MORQ”, “Rerouter” or “Any Legendary Shield”

###Chance at Obtaining the “Meganade”
At least one Megande is required using any of these combinations
[ Meganade ] + [ Any Leg GM #1 ] + [ Any Leg GM #2 ]
[ Meganade #1 ] + [ Meganade #2 ] + [ Any Leg GM ]
[ Meganade #1 ] + [ Meganade #2 ] + [ Meganade #3 ]
The grinding result is either going to be a “Meganade” or “Any Leg GM” using any of the three combinations.

##18. List of Reliable Ingredients for DLC2 Legendaries [WIP]

###Luck Cannons
The ingredients for the Pro Revolution seem to also give a Luck Cannon on occasions.

###Proletarian Revolution
[ Pro Revolution ] + [ DLC2 Leg Wpn ] + [ Purple Pistol ] ~= Better than Avg. In Getting One
[ Flayer #1 ] + [ Flayer #2 ] + [ Purple Hyperion Pistol ] ~= Better than Avg. In Getting One
###Flayers
[ Pro Revolution #1 ] + [ Pro Revolution #2 ] + [ Purple SG ] ~= Better than Avg. In Getting One
[Note: A purple Tediore SG may give better than avg results on occasions]
[ Flayer #1 ] + [ Flayer #2 ] + [ Purple SG ] ~= Better than Avg. In Getting One

###DLC2 Weapon Legendary except for the Flayer
The best way to get them is by using this combination
[ Any DLC2 Leg Wpn ] + [ Any Main Game Leg Wpn (or Berrigan RL) ] + [ Desired Type Weapon ]

And rounded down, not up.

Good catch and Thanks. And as I keep updating, please check for other inaccuracies.
I’m hoping to have it all done as my first complete draft within a few days.
And then start updating it to include stuff from the new DLC and maybe other suggestions from the community.

Section 6 for the Sniper Rifle is now in the OP and edited the comment provided by @VaultHunter101 in Section 1.

Nothing constructive to add. I just want to say that THIS is a truly useful guide, and I thank you for choosing this format. You guys are alright in my book. I don’t care WHAT Handsome Jack says about you!

Thanks, I think is going to help me as well. I missed the original Grinder Recipes thread in the old forum. So decided to volunteer and start this one. Hoping it will help me and many other vault hunters as well.

BTW, I just finished uploading Section 7 for the AR’s. Next section will be for the RLs.

Good work, and thank you for the big effort. I’m currently grinding glitched weapons, and it seems to be totally random. Let see if some update changes things once again.
I suspect glitched weapon class is limited, for example I have not been able to get any other Vladof sniper rifles than Bratchny, like this.
Vladof pistols have been Anarchists (praise the devil), and TMPs. One glorious example here.
Just put 3 glitched ones in, and let the RNG roll. Weapon types you put in does not affect the results, it’s all random.

Sure it’s early days, and less than 50 grinds is not much of a sample. I hope I’m wrong on that Vladof snipes type, would love me some glitching Droogs, but that Bratchny above is a beast.

Who makes the Corinthian sniper? Pretty sure it’s not Vladof, so I think @HoundofBootHill is on to something.

Also, nice pistol!

Thanks, . . . and nice grinds.
I’m hoping once we get the new guns figured out, then I can re-update the OP to also include them.
And unfortunately, I haven’t started playing the new Handsome Collection yet. I’m waiting for the XBX360 to XBX1 crossover to get fixed before I start playing it. So have no experience yet with the new guns.
In the meantime, I’m trying to get the OP completed. And can wait to start posting my own grinding recipes finds in this topic.

BTW, Section 8 for the RLs is now uploaded. Next Section will be for the SG’s hopefully late tonight after work.

Maliwan, not Vladof

Is been taking me more time than I expected to complete, but I’m almost there.
Been taking the time to proof-read, test and verify before uploading.
So just finished uploading the SMG section to complete all the Weapons Sections.

Next section to upload will be the Oz Kits.

Nice guide, will be using this for sure

I have found a problem though with the claptastic legendaries and not being able to do moongrinds.

I tried grinding a luck cannon (claptastic legendary). a skullmasher and a purple shotty. It wouldn’t give me the option to moongrind, just doing a normal grind.

Also saw another wierd thing which probably contributes to this, the luck cannon has a much lower price than a vanilla legendary of the same weapon type and level.

It seems as though the game is not reading the claptastic legendaries in the same way as the vanilla legendaries

Good piece of information, thanks.
I haven’t started playing the new DLCs yet. So it’s worth mentioning that the legendaries used for the recipes in the OP are only applicable with the vanilla legendaries.
Once I (and the community) figure out the new legendaries and new guns, then I’ll update the OP accordingly.

All main sections are now completed. I’m planning next to upload pictures for Section 15 to complement the rest of the OP and be able to complete the guideline for the first time. And again, the OP mostly reflects the use of vanilla legendaries. But still hope it would be of help.
And I haven’t had the time yet to start experimenting with the new weapons, but should be able to finally start soon.

Do we have any info on the odds of certain grinds coming up with best result items, with and without moonstones (where appropriate)?

I was reminded earlier of what a b***h RNG can be. Must have tried at least ten times with three purple oz kits, and never once got a legendary result. :-/ It’s nice to be able to manage expectations against observed statistical probabilities, is all I’m saying.

Ran a quick test right now using (30 - Completley Different and at Random) - LV50 Purple Oz Kits.
It took me 13 tries to get a legendary. This is how I did it:

  • I used my XBOX 360 Console and connected to XBX Live.
  • Used the grinder in Concordia.
  • Used one of my mules which has a Backpack (30/30) full of LV50 Oz Kits, no duplicates, all found overtime.
  • Put all the 30 Oz Kits in one of my main characters backpack and started grinding to see how many grinds it would take to get a legendary.
  • No moonstones used. Only 3 Oz Kits at a time.

RESULTS:
Grind #1: Purple
Grind #2: Purple
Grind #3: Purple
Grind #4: Purple
Grind #5: Purple
Grind #6: Purple
Grind #7: Purple
Grind #8: Purple
Grind #9: Purple
Grind #10: Purple
Got no legendaries with the original 30 Oz Kits. But had the 10 - Oz Kits left from the 10 grinds.
So started grinding the last 10 and this happened:

Grind #11: Purple
Grind #12: Purple
Grind #13: Got this LV 50 Oxidizer.

So purples I think are the hardest to upgrade to legnedaries. But been lucky and gotten oranges only a few times in my first try.

There’s this topic already posted by @VaultHunter101. I think it kind of does that. I was going to post some of my purple grinding results there, but haven’t had a chance to do so yet.

Just added your Oz grinds to my spreadsheet. I will likely update next week some time - right now, I have some BL2 calling my name!

Just updated with a few more stats. I need to do a bunch more blue and purple grinds to get those numbers up

Started grinding “LV51 Purple Weapons” with the new Grinder at “The Nexus”.
And either I’m having really bad luck or that grinder hates purples.

Last night: I grinded 21 times 3 random purples at a time and got no legendaries in return

And tonight: I grinded 23 times 3 random purples at a time, and only got one legendary pistol in return.

So got only one legendary in 44 tries in two nights.
However, I got the lone legendary in the first try of the night using a [ Laser + AR + Pistol ]. But got no more legendaries after that.
