New gripe: Krieg melee doing no damage to Crystal skeleton

Unless in rage mode. This happen to everybody?

You know those skeleton that are ONLY vulnerable to melee, so that pretty much makes them invulnerable against Krieg (a melee character) if rage is cooling down.

And the disappearing skeleton mages definitely tied most annoying enemy in game (with fly bots), when they appear have to pull out rocket launcher and waste a ton of rockets nothing else can do.

Theyā€™re still pretty resilient - so I donā€™t really try to melee them outside of RtB (much less BXR) without a roid shield and/or Rapier.

Kriegā€™s added melee damage (without any skills specā€™d) puts his damage at almost double any other character at level 72, but thatā€™s still not very much.

Iā€™ve definitely heard that around here somewhere before. I never noticed with my BloodMania Krieg, I usually dispensed slag and high explosives until I was in RtB territory, at which point I swung at everything in range and chucked explosive axes at everything further away than that. Also, I am a fan of chucking Rolling Thunders blind through doorways and following them after theyā€™ve stopped exploding. If you get some slag on the field first (I use a slag bouncing betty and then swap to the Rolling Thunder) that can eliminate almost a whole room of those nuisances. Also, Slagga+Fastball= Almost instafrag.

Nah thereā€™s gotta be a bug somewhere, my Legendary Soldier Axton was doing decent damage on them with simple tomahawk smash.

Iā€™m playing on xb1 btw

What level?

My Krieg is lvl 61. Very strong I think, but magic Slaughter round 1 was surprisingly tough with him. Coz heā€™s so huge I was setting off those spikes all time, an unpleasant surprise lol.

I canā€™t really see how he can be doing less than Axton. Krieg gets an additional melee bonus that increases (as a percentage) as his level goes up. No idea :man_shrugging:

Game bug dude? As awesome as this game is I do believe there are 1 or 2?

Some are good (like that one where you donā€™t have to reload or whatever), some like this I guess are not

Iā€™ve only got as far as completing Hatredā€™s shadow with my UVHM Krieg. Had a couple of crystal skeletons along the way, but I either had rampage ready to go or I was rocking a Slippery Ogre. Iā€™ll keep any eye out through Lair and see what happens. Incidentally, were you running with a bladed weapon at all? Because from what Iā€™ve read that apparently doesnā€™t do as much melee damage with Zer0.

Isnā€™t there a level where Kriegā€™s special melee modifier goes higher than your average melee accessory? Someone posted the maths here a while back, but I think thereā€™s a level in the mid 60s where his special built in modifier is above 50%, so the only melee attachment weapons he gets a boost from are the Law at 100% and the Rapier at 200%. That wouldnā€™t explain why Krieg was doing less damage than any other toon with similar equipment though. If Krieg and Axton were both using a 50% bonus bladed weapon I would expect them to do the same/similar damage.

Heā€™s right at the threshold (level 61) - so it wonā€™t make any measurable difference.

Maybe a Love Thumper would smooth it out a bit? Start with a slag mari-nade, add a little roid damage, and a smidge of explosive nova to cover the bases? Garnish with a Flesh Crunch and an explosive relic just to make it pop? Not that this answers any questions, but as a viable alternate strategy in the absence of a solution?

Crystal Skeletons have as much health as Badass Skeletons and have an extremely strong resistance to all damage but suffer from a severe weakness to Explosive damage.

Donā€™t even bother trying to kill them with melee unless itā€™s through Bloodsplosion or Buzz Axe Bombardier, as they take very little damage from anything thatā€™s not Explosive (they can tank Incendiary Fastballs from Grenade Axton like itā€™s nothing). Instead, get yourself a decent Explosive weapon and theyā€™ll drop instantly. Iā€™d recommend a Baby Maker, easy enough to farm and extremely effective overall on Krieg. But you can also go with a good old Unkempt Harold and theyā€™ll go down just as fast.

Edit : actually theyā€™re also weak to melee. :man_shrugging:

? Pretty sure they were taking Torgue shotty blasts like they were nothing. These skeletons are weak to melee I remember when I beat the dome with Axton I kept a Law revolver in backpack and whenever I faced them they were destroyed in 3 or 4 slashes.

Yup just checked and youā€™re right : theyā€™re highly weak to melee as well. I was confusing them with Chupacabra Witch Doctors.

But then if as Axton with a Law you were able to easily dispatch them, why are you having issues with them as Krieg ? Krieg does way more melee damage than Axton, even with a Law.

I think Kriegā€™s (and Gaigeā€™s) melee attacks are bugged in quirky, unexpected ways? Iā€™m not 100% sure on this but I seem to have read this somewhere and it seemed to be the case in my experience (they do less melee damage against crystalisks than the other characters, but once again, itā€™s actually been awhile since Iā€™ve gone around punching crystalisks (usually I just take them out from a distance) so Iā€™m not 100% sure on this.) If theyā€™re bugged against crystalisks they could conceivably be bugged against crystal skeletons as well. If I get a little time later I might do some testing on this (or if anyone else does, feel free of course!)

Standard Torgue shotty blasts? Regular gyro jet rounds are subject to bullet reflection. But if you are rocking a splash heavy weapon that wouldnā€™t be an issue of the same magnitude, if any. Thatā€™s why I thought a Love Thumper might be helpful. By the same reasoning I would think a Kerblaster, or maybe even Tediore reloads, might be effective too. Just tossing stuff out there to try in hopes of it helping you get past those troublesome reflector enemies.

This definitely chews through those crystal skeletons.

Yup

Someone mustā€™ve complained about this before canā€™t believe Iā€™m the first

And if you donā€™t have a Kerblaster or donā€™t want to farm for one, many fairly common ARs (Torgue Torpedo, Vladof Rocketeer, etc) with the Torgue barrel should work nicely too since that barrel causes the AR to fire pure-splash rounds that donā€™t reflect.
