BadAss rank prioritization

I’m sure this has been talked about before, but a quick (2 minute) search didn’t turn anything up so I’ll open it again.
I play with BAR on (I never play co-op and am not trying to set any records for myself) because I like the system and it’s enhancements.
I have my own prioritization scheme for my points, and wanted to see what others do.
For me, my priority is, in order;
Reload speed - Besides reducing mental stress, I think the higher the reload speed, the ultimately higher broadly based DPS is. Since every weapon benefits from reload speed increases, every time I have a chance to add a point to RS I do. Current level +55.8%
Fire Rate - Co-equal with reload speed, it increases DPS across any weapon type. Current level +36.9
Gun damage - again, a broad benefit across many gun types. Current level +37.4%
Those three are the priority, and even if it’s just a .2% boost I will spend the point on one fo those three if available. After that it really gets into play style, and mine follows this cascade;
Critical hit damage - I like to snipe. This is the next thing to grab. Current level +15.9
Elemental effect damage. I usually play Maya, so elemental damage boosting is Good. Current level 17.1%
Grenade damage - I did this late, didn’t think it through. I would (now) have preferred to add to this instead of the ones below. Boosting Storm front output is Good. Current level +13.1
Shield delay and recharge I also added lots of points to early, and would not do it if I were starting fresh, I do not find this very valuable. Both are currently +25%
Shield capacity- I do like this one, and use it if none of my favs are available. Current level 18.8%
Gun accuracy and recoil reduction - Again, I didn’t fully understand the game mechanics when I started putting points in here, in hindsight I would have put the points elsewhere, these do not matter much. Current level- Accuracy 25%, recoil 17%
Max health- I use it when everything else is stinky. +15.9
Elemental chance- I’ve never quite understood this one. Even from day one I’ve never seen much difficultly in applying a DOT, so just 11%
And for me, finally-
Melee Damage: I don’t melee. Or, truthfully, I melee once every 15 hours of gameplay. Current level 1.7%

What’s your BAR addition thought process?

There’s a lot of comments about that in this thread:

There are two main approaches: balance across the board, or focus on things like Reload Speed where the difference becomes more obvious.

It was all fun and games when I only had a few points to put here or there, but the biggest ‘spread’ from weakest to strongest is, what, 10% (don’t ask where I pulled that number from). I spread them evenly across the board, but stopped spending tokens when all those options hit 20%.

Thanks, I did not see that.

When I am still using BAR i give equally to all except for shield delay because of melee zero.

Edit, I forgot I also do not put points in Health since I am a fan of healthgate build.

Reload speed at 55% does make a discernible difference, and I am glad I’ve added there.

Like many others I’ve capped at 20% across the board - I have no idea how many tokens I have unused, but a great many to be sure.

Ironically most of my OP8 characters play with BAR off - and obviously no BAR for melee Zer0 because of shield delay. It’s the low OP level characters that have crippled builds where the 20% is nice.

I stopped at 25% across the board- currently sitting at 719,725 BAR with 771 unused tokens…

I tend to play with BAR of these days because the more you have it the more it gives you an advantage and the less you are playing on “the same field” as other players. It can make builds work that have no business of working (which is fun) but also makes the best builds super broken.

That said:

  • Anything that increases damage is very good, except grenade damage and maybe DOT (gun, crit, melee)
  • Reload speed, shield recharge rate, fire rate is very good also.
  • Accuracy is great for some guns like shotties and to a lesser effect all kinds of bullethoses.
  • Increasing DOT chance is quite minor but it’s not harmful
  • Shield capacity should be increased at the same rate as grenade damage. That way you don’t run into any woes if you want to do shield stripping on roid shields.
  • DOT damage is quite minor on enemies and while it doesn’t happen to me at circa 20 % I’d imagine going overboard with DOT boosts maybe could get you into troubles in situations where you end up DOTing yourself on OP levels. Not sure about this one, just my headtheory.
  • Shield delay boost is harmful for melee Zer0, although you’d need get to 15-20 % and more for it to truly start messing with you. Still, not a good thing to boost if ever plan on playing melee Zer0 with BAR on.
  • Recoil reduction has a wonky effect on Hyperion weapons and their reverse recoil effect. It actually makes it worse. Having a small number here helps you with other guns and won’t absolutely butcher Hyperion but try to limit yourself with this and try to never touch it beyond 10-15 % I’d say.
  • I don’t usually boost max health much because it can mess with health gating strats. I have about 12 % there if memory serves and it’s still fine. Could be a bit more too without messing up too much.

As for my “strategy” I try to keep the ones that are harmful for one thing or another down and the good ones up, that’s about it. I try to land on nice round numbers just so the list looks more pleasing if I ever look at it.

Yeah, I have absolutely no interest in playing in the same field as other players. Starting over with a new character? Raiding at OP8? Using only the dozen most perfect pieces of gear in the game? Farming for this gear until my eyes bleed? Any sort of time trial? What I love about the OP system, BAR (and even more with my custom UCP) is that I can tailor the game to the exact difficulty level that I want.

I totally understand that and that’s ok. I just like to keep my stuff as vanilla as possible.

My BARs are very high overall i didn’t even know why, to the point using them makes the game too easy. Like 48% reload, 50% grenade dmg, all across the board above 25/30%.
One day the game gave me about 300k points and about 800 ranks, no reason at all. Not even mentioning i don’t even ever use them, but yeah funny xD

Reminds me of this.

Once wanted to play with my friend on PC who didn’t have any characters on his new install so I sent her a copy of one of my saves on the character he used and he immediately got all the points from all the challenges I had done on that character which was most of them. It was kinda hilarious. I wouldn’t think it should work like that but it did. I don’t remember if it was in BL2 or TPS but they work alike I think.

I believe @Kurtdawg13 had a similar thing when he cloned one his characters to make a mule. All the sudden his BAR increased. There’s a good chance this has happened to me too but I don’t keep track of my BAR.

It happened to me when i transferred my 6 original Chars to the handsome collection if that has any importance

I understand the sentiment, it’s a personal choice certainly.
For me;

  • in 3 years I have never played co-op. Just not my thing. I’m not a reliable co-op partner, I tend to pause a lot to pet the cats, look at email, attend to household junk, and so on so don’t want someone else to have to suffer through that.
  • If it’s in the game (without exploiting glitches or bugs), I use it.
  • I’m good but not great. Highest character is still just OP4 (I’m an old guy, a Peak run wears me out mentally so I only try one about every 4 days ) , so any benefits I can gain for my personal enjoyment are welcome.

Chasing challenges/BAR and adding tenths of a percent to things (at this point) is still fun for me. At 235,866 legit now.

I was unable to recreate the glitch. so not sure exactly what happened there. :thinking:

I had something similar happen. I cloned a character and ended up with 500 badass tokens. Not sure how/why. I’ve yet to spend them yet as I don’t wanna buff my stuff too much.

Thats said, I may go ahead and spend them as I’m currently trying to get Zer0 to OP8 and can use all the help I can get.
