References in Claptastic Voyage

Post away!

I’ll start: The ‘Super Badass Trojan’ is a Minotaur. Yep: Trojans, Greeks, Pandora, Elpis, Eos, … Definitely seeing a theme here!

Deck 13.5 is from Being John Malkovich. Though in that case you entered his mind from the 7 1/2 floor.

Also it’s a play-on trojan virus.

Might as well add the obligatory Byte Club reference, “Chained to Railway” trope from Super-Ego’s mission, and the “Data Mining” Cookies.

obviously sponx being sphynx and id and 3g0-TP being psychology references. the spyware with 200 moonstones is a cold-war spy reference, the whole thing is a fantastic voyage reference, i thought there was another star wars reference too, but I cannot for the life of me remember it. there are lots of one-line references too that I’m sure someone will compile.

Yes, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold is a classic spy movie set in the Cold War era, worth a watch!

And yes, the Fantastic Voyage was when those scientists or doctors used that tiny, tiny ship to enter that guys body and fly around inside!

Which is kind of what you were doing in the DLC, going into Clappy’s mind…

And Kaneda’s Laser is a reference to Akira iirc

yeah! forgot that one! morq is a reference to mork and mindy also

EDIT: and the laser disker is a tribes reference. And the red text on hard reboot is a reference to “the IT crowd”

I keep seeing people mention this - is it one of the new Legendary weapons?

Haha yes I noticed that too, had forgotten til now!

The IT Crowd is one of the funniest shows EVER!

Well it’s also a general Computer Science/IT joke,

Source: I’m one of those

Yeah!

I got that reference as soon as I installed the DLC and opened the game to the Fast Travel menu.

As soon as I saw that, I knew the DLC was going to be great!

EDIT: Malkovich! Malkovich. Malkovich? MALKOVICH. Malkovich Malkovich Malkovich.

You’ve seen The IT Crowd, I assume?

I like one of the actors, but I haven’t seen the show, just a joke passed around the realm of Computer Science.

Oh, and of course, the Temple of Boom and escaping the giant rolling…umm…it’s not a boulder…but something big and around…I played the DLC so fast…what is it that chases you?

Anyways, Indiana Jones reference, of course, Temple of Doom.

I’ve seen every episode at least 4 times.

I highly recommend it!

Great nerd humour!

The Earworm and his various tentacles and parts are references to various musical terms that come together to compose a song, and the whole mission is poking fun at how hard / annoying it is to delete / remove music in iTunes.

The Cookies in the Cookies vs Shame mission (Data Mining?) are references to the cookies used via the internet to store and retrieve data from your computer, which people and companies can use to data mine your system.

The pop-up ads are great. We all tried to click the X, right? Also, if you buy something from them it’s a total ripoff.

Haha yeah nice touch!

Although, if you shoot the corner X, they do go away!

I also loved Clappy’s notes to himself:

Leave less notes for self.

Leave more notes for self.

You will always fail 100% of the things you try.

There are a lot more!
