I’ve mentioned in another post that I’ve finished the Scarlett’s DLC and now have Hyperius available for farming.
I’ve seen alot of guys will repeatedly farm him. I would like to do this, but I’m lucky if I get more than 2 kills in a row. When I die, sometimes I can get back in, sometime I have to run to the beginning of the Washburn and re-enter to unlock the arena. I have collected about 130 seraph crystals so far, so It’s not as if I’m always failing miserably.
I’ve been kickin around some ideas to maybe improve my kill rate and would like to throw em out there and see what the experts think.
First idea is just to keep practicing with the existing setup. I just may be bad at lining up the shot as it’s pretty new to me. More practice essentially. I may look for a relic to get some extra grenades as I usually run out.
Another Idea is to spec out of velocity completely. Now, I can achieve Bore every single time I try, but often it only takes out about half of Hyperius’ health. Sometimes I can get lucky with his remaining Minions and line up another bore shot. Other times we just hop around until he finally kills me. From what I’ve learned about the Twister and Velocity, this may make the bore more effective?
My third Idea is to try another weapon. First one I thought of is the Tidal Wave. Would this be more or less effective than the Twister? I’m guessing it also can be affected by Velocity. I read where @Jefe used it to take down Saturn. Out of curiousity I tried to do the same with the Twister. I did get some bore, but it didn’t take him out as quickly as say the pimpernel. Of course this is also something that may just take more practice.
Any other Jakob’s weapons that may be good for this? I’ve thought of the 2’fer Maggie.
I’m also going to try with a Harold, just to see if I get more consistent results. Of course this breaks allegiance, but is only for testing purposes.
Also I wouldn’t mind having a Norfleet for one of my other characters.
Speccing out of velocity would definitely help the twister as you’re essentially giving the projectiles more time to spin and proc damage on the way through him. The twister is the best Jakobs weapon for boring Hyp so stick with it. Practice will also help. The idea of grabbing a grenade stockpile relic is also a good one.
The Harold and Pimpernel should both give you good results. There’ll be a lot of examples of people boring Hyp with a Pimp which you could go find to help refine your technique, although at the end of the day proccing a good bore has a large luck factor so I’d recommend just practice and maybe trying with no velocity.

Awesome. Like I said, I’ve not had complete failure with it, just looking to improve my chances of one-shotting him.
Once he breaks free of his minions and starts jumping at me, well, it’s all over then.
I may first try with changing to the Hunter COM as that will give me only 1 point in velocity vs 6 w/ sniper or killer. In most mobbing situations I find 6 to be just about perfect.
Also, Ive been using Slag singularities, would a Quasar be a better choice?
Edit: Might also try with the Tidal Wave just for grins and giggles.
You definitely want as little Velocity as possible for any guns that have bullets with an arcing trajectory ( Interfacer, Tidal Wave, Pimp, Twister ) - at least for this excercise. It’s not going to have much of a negative effect on guns that have diverging bullets ( Slagga, Harold, Lyuda ) - you just have to stand a little further back.
I’m not that experienced with Hyp and Bore, but I’ve had the best success with the Interfacer. A Harold will work great. Your Two-Fer Maggie should work in a similar way - I’d definitely give it a try. I’d love to hear about the Tidal Wave - obviously you know I used it on Saturn, but I’ve also one-shot the Bunker with it many times. Regardless, a Bee will help.
I used regular singularities - a Quasar might have too much pull and throw the minions out of position.
Check these two vids (with a grain of salt)

So the first video I think is key. I haven’t thrown my deception into the wall, but the grenade placement is what I think is most important. If I can do it w/ three grenades I’d be thrilled.
I need to get the Tidal Wave anyways, being a red text , my Jakobs Zer0 needs it. Gotta be easier to farm than the ROM.
I’ll present MOLMF’s attempts to bore Hyperius as an example of just how hit and miss boring Hyperius can be, because successful runs don’t give a true reflection of the time that went into getting the kill.
Hopefully it’ll also give you a ideas on how to handle Hyperius when he jumps at you.

Ahh yes, I believe I’ve watched that video before, but am going to watch again. He seems to ALWAYS get out of FFYL. The only time I’ve done it with Hyperius is when I exploited a potential bore shot…otherwise I’m toast.
I long ago gave up trying to replicate what he does mechanically, however there is a lot to be learnt from how he times his attacks, deceptions and transfusions. The raids are all about process, knowing when to attack and when not to. So seeing and trying to replicate the patterns he employs is the important part and will naturally lead to a better rate of survival.
I thought I’d give it a go with my OP2 Jakobs Assassin. I only did it once as it was for the mission kill - but I used slag longbow singularities and a Tidal Wave and I managed to insta-Bore Hyp on the fourth shot. I got a Retcher
Tidal Wave wins again
( for what it’s worth I happened to have 2 points in Velocity ).

I actually tried a couple times with only one point in velocity and did worse than when I had 6, go figure.
Also didn’t do so good with the Harold…
Maybe I’ll go get the Tidal Wave…and yeah, he drops the Retcher a bunch.
Edit: Just got a Tidal Wave of the Well Kept variety with Jakobs stock. Haven’t gone after Hyp yet, but did take out Saturn and I think I had an easier time with it than the Twister. I guess I can see why people don’t like it, but for some targets it’s actually well suited.
Edit#2: Well, the Tidal Wave didn’t bore Hyp…well…it did, but not enough to kill him. I think it’s pretty much down to getting the shot lined up and the gun isn’t really overly important. I’m just not having good luck with Hyperius today.
How would a Skullmasher work as Jakobs B0re material for Hyperius? Not enough pellets for a one-hit kill? Can you crit the little guys on the way in? If so, seems like that damage would escalate quickly.

I suppose if I could stack enough CA, which I could probably do. I’d have to be very careful because I couldn’t use transfusions for healing, which I kinda depend on in Washburn. So for healing I would only have Innervate.
May be a fun challenge, but difficult for sure(for myself anyway).
Another option would be to obtain a crit machine and stockpile relic. This isn’t something that I’ve ever done, but it could be a great learning experience. MoLMF uses this method but with a pimpernel as his main weapon.
