To PiP, or not to PiP whilst peaking

Howdy.

Got my Krieg to OP8 (well, some rocket jumping Sal did more to the point) but after getting some good weaponry Im starting to hold my own at the high OP’s. Running a hellborn mania build with a Leg sickle but keen to beat the peaks solo and was wondering if other Krieg players that have been successful at this run with Pain is power or is it better to not minimise your crit damage at higher peaks. I’ve got one point in at the moment giving me 6 with the sickle mod. Have beaten OP2 peak legitimately with a siren & mania bloodlust build but a lot less dying at op levels with the hellborn mania build for me

Running hellborn with sickle seems illogical to me. Clearly a Legendary Torch would make more sense, no?

Hellborn Mania is probably a bad combination. There are plenty of Hellborn, Explosive, Fastball and Mania builds discussed in the forum just look them up and maybe take a look at the Krieg time trials.

I recommand a build around the Reaper classmod wich can be extremly powerfull with a gun that has great splash damage

Just completed a run to get to OP8 with Krieg myself based around a slightly unusual choice of weapon- elemental Infinitys. Here’s the build if you want to take a look at it:

Weapons: Elemental Infinity, Slagga, DPUH, GN
Grenade: Chain Lightning, Storm Front, Fastball
Shield: Rough Rider
Class mod: L. Torch, Flesh Crunch
Relic: Sheriff’s Badge, elemental BotA and explosive relic
The idea is to equip a fire and corrosive Infinity along with the Slagga and GN and Sheriff’s Badge. Once you get down to a specific enemy type you can element match the relic. I know fire is considered the least effective element on the Peak but Krieg’s Hellborn tree and L. Torch com really lets him make it work. The Flesh Crunch com is used with an Explosive Fastball and relic to take out slag enemies, SBA surveyors, spiderant tunnelers (the flaming ones that burrow- forget their exact name) and certain mini boss enemies like Doc Mercy or that final Assassin. Hope this helps and good luck!

PiP’s fine because you’re not really looking for critical hits, but splash and DoTs.

Thanks for the info & pic of your build! Yeah, infinities!! I was doing this with sherrifs badge (just love throwing that buzz axe!) at OP0 to great effect but by OP3 my fire infinity was only tickling the enemy…worth farming OP8 versions for another try as I was really comfortable with this playstyle

Thank you Mr. Crunch! Lacking a carnage but will give all these builds a whirl with the weaponry Ive got, see whats a good fit

Unless you’re using weapons for high crit damage you’re better off having points into it, although I personally dislike having PiP due to the critical penalty on melee.

About the build, I did op8 peak with a hellborn-mania melee spec (this one) since I was having some trouble with my bloodlust-mania build on the peak due to the increase of StV’s self-damage from Fuel the Blood. The hellborn-mania melee spec works really well for mobbing giving you some high survivability but completing the op8 with the spec wasn’t easy as things tend to get a bit more skewed towards damage so instead I would recommend a more weapon-focused hellborn-mania using a Power Toast class mod.

Hey Carlton- looking at this build I see no StV…you were using BxR as a 'get out of jail" thing and going solely thrown axe?
I’ve been running mine no moxxi partly because I hate the drunk effect & part for my own pride
Moxxi + fastball is a strong combo though. Will get my infinities then try this with a Rubi, take it to the peaks & report back.

In a word, yes. I also tried PiP with explosive/splash weapons like the Kerblaster, Tediore SMG’s and grenades but it was a bit difficult keeping up with the ammo demands in the middle of a fight, even though I kept an Avenger on hand to regen SMG ammo. I decided that since I was pretty good at getting crits with the Infinity to make it my main weapon. BTW, the build really needs for the Infinity to be elemental- n.e. versions just won’t cut it…
