The Veritas pistol - how comes no one talks about this?

Very suprised when I was offered this pistol (as well as alternative red text Vladoff shield) as quest reward when trying to farm Slagga (which I gave up on btw after like 2 or 3 goes).

I got it, and wow I was very impressed, good strong Vladoff machine pistol but with excellent recoil like a very good dahl SMG. If I got this in fire element for sure it would be absolutely amazing (I got in non-elem), in fact I sold a purple Vladoff pistol afterward as it was better than it.

How come no one talks about this??

Huh, I had completely forgotten about that - I usually pick the shield while levelling a character up, and I don’t do that quest sequence unless I really have to (because I don’t like it). I might just have to bite the bullet (hah!) on one of my characters who hasn’t done that quest yet and get one.

Blue unique (ie red text) items are generally going to rival purple rarity, so it’s no surprise that you can roll one with better overall stats than a purple Vladof.

BTW, the Slagga is the designated drop for Jimbo & Tector Hodunk, which means siding with the Zafords at the end of Clan Wars; it’s not to the best of my knowledge a quest reward item.

that’s what I thought yup. Killed big Tector like 3 times then gave up, not a fan of boring farming like that, and he nor his men dropped anything good

Same 1 in 10 odds as any designated drop. It’s not the worst farm in the game, although it’s not the easiest either. I’d recommend doing periodic tubby/black queen/Mobeley & Gettle/Hodunk runs. That way you get a ton of mobbing with multiple chances for at least something good. It’s not a bad route for just letting off some steam, and gives you a bit more variety than just zooming straight to the station.

IIRC that’s the Hyperion barrled one that gives increased FFYL time. In which case it’s basically a purple pistol with a mostly wasted bonus

I’ve taken that reward when I was hurting for a pistol while leveling. It definitely worked for a little bit, but I generally prefer the Gwen’s Head. It’s always available (similar to the Lascaux, but with more spawn locations), is always on level in UVHM, and elemental variants aren’t too uncommon. Full disclosure, I prefer Dahl pistols to Vladof most of the time because I feel like I waste less bullets with Dahl sidearms (I ADS compulsively. Burst fire, FTW).

with incredible recoil reduction, not at all like any other Vlad machine pistol

IDK maybe they buffed it recently?

just learning about this gun now, sounds really good

The Gwen’s Head can be straight up nasty. The high burst count/low recoil combination puts a lot of lead in a tight area. I used a corrosive one to swat buzzards for a few levels, and it destroys loaders too. The Hornet has splash, but the Gwen’s Head is precise.

Gwen’s head is a very good gun

What parts does it have? Dahl grip and the accuracy prefix would help recoil and accuracy. And no updates to this game for awhile now

I got a Hornet to do Hyperion Slaughter 5 with Axton with, very good with a Corrosive Relic, I only had to beat Knuckle-Dragger like 4 times before he dropped one, very quick with simple quit and reload.

Btw I still was not able to beat Hyperion Slaughter 5 yet though  if I still can’t do it soon, once again I will have to rely on the corrosion Hail

The gun also has a 10% Type B (multiplicative) crit bonus.
The Gwen is the obvious alternative choice ( especially as you get it about 10 feet from where you turn in the Clan Wars mission… ) - but the Veritas is great.

So is it Wakey Wakey in particular or after you finish the entire questline?

I believe it’s wakey wakey. The rewards for the whole questline are the Chulainn (Zaford) and the Landscaper (Hodunks).

I meant as far as finding the Gwen’s Head

Oops, my bad. As long as the Dust is available. It spawns in one of 5 locations. The wiki has screenshots, I believe. One in Ellie’s garage just inside the doors on the right, one in the shadow of the rocky outcrop you can see from her front yard, one on the edge of the buzzard camp, one by a power pole near the gas station sign, and one at the Lynchwood map transition. It is in one of those places every time the map loads.

The locations are marked on Count Karloff’s invaluable maps. The gun will randomly be in one of those locations each time you enter the map.

Thanks.

And does this scale to level like the Lascaux (which as far as I’m aware, scales as the character levels meaning you only need to pick it up once)?

Yoy mean the way the Grog, and other mission items, do? In UVHM both guns will be the same level the character is when they enter the map. But once you pick it up it will always be that level. You can get a higher level one if you return to the map at a higher level.

Alright, glad that’s clarified. Thanks.
