What Elements for Pimpernel and Sandhawk?

Gonna farm these later today, but I’m not 100% what element to go for. If you could get 2 Pimpernels/Sandhawks, what would you choose? Playing Maya with Ruin/Scorn usually.

I heard the Pimp is great for slagging. Was thinking Slag/Shock Pimp and debating Shock/Fire/Corrosive for Sandhawk.

I didn’t think about this (kinda new to BL2), but if you use Chain Lightning to strip shields, would you really need a shock weapon? Or are they still good for shielded bosses too?

Thanks

Sand Hawk :

  • being a Dahl, this gun is strongly weighted to non-elemental - so forewarned you’re in for a bit of drudgery if you want an element.
  • shock is all-around ok, but is really only specifically used on Pete.
  • fire and corrosive are both fantastic to have.
  • getting a Dahl stock will get an extra burst.

Pimpernel :

  • being Maliwan, it’s guaranteed to have an element, so that makes it easy to get all elements.
  • a slag Pimp is one of the best all around guns you can get. It’s the best slagger around and can do considerable damage on its own.
  • I have all elements but never use the shock one.
  • highly recommend getting matching grip. Dahl or Hyperion stocks are also preferable.

Corrosive is the way to go in the Peak, so definetly get that. On both!

If you have both Scorn and Ruin, I don’t see the need to go for a slag Pimp. On the other characters it’s great.

Chain Lightning will take care of the shields most of the time, but don’t forget that Ruin is also very good at that. Most Maya veterans will tell you to use a Quasar instead. The extra crowd control is really nice, and… it also strips shields.

Shock weapons strip shields faster than other elements, also on bosses. You’ll run out of grenades long before the shield is down on the big bosses, so it’s definetly a good idea to have at least one shock weapon in your inventory. If you get a shock Sandhawk, then… great! If not… you can go for a ricochet Fibber, an Infinity pistol or a nice Thinking (Hyperion shotgun with Hyperion barrel). These guns don’t use SMG ammo, so there’s that.

The Sandhawk is better at getting wider crits via traditional aiming, which applies well to Loaders, so getting a Corrosive is a good move.

For most of the main bosses, with a couple of exceptions, they are weak to Fire or Corrosive, so Fire would be my other suggestion for a Sandhawk.

When it comes to shock weapons, the best I can think of are grenades (storm front, quasar, chain lighting). Preferable to strip shields with those then use your Sandhawk or Pimpernel.

The way the Pimpernel has that counter-intuitive aiming makes it trickier to use against some loaders when aiming for crits, but great for slagging. Slagging is kind of redundant with Maya, so going for Shock or Corrosive isn’t the worst idea, but using the Pimpernel to apply a Status Effect of an Element/ Damage Over Time is a perk of the multiple projectiles “flowering” out of the shot that lands. That perk applies to enemies weak to Fire, as in Bandits and wild life. So Slag & Fire for the Pimpernel are the ones I see put to use the most.

It wouldn’t hurt to have all elements, and getting a Gentelman’s Pimpernel for that bonus Crit damage is a good move.

In either case with those recommendations (imposing the 2 per weapon limit) it is all contingent on you getting those shock grenades for shielded enemies.

I’m weird in that even with Ruin I still like to have a Slagga on Maya (it’s also pretty good at just killing foes). As for the Pimpernel I like corrosive, for the Sand Hawk fire, as most enemies (including raid bosses) are flesh. Drop any shields with a Tesla grenade (Storm Front if you can get it) then apply the weapon of choice- fire SH for flesh, corrosive Pimp for armor. For the rare enemies that resist fire- like fire Nomads- your shock grenades should be of help for them…

Not weird! I don’t run with Scorn, so a slag Pimp is normally on deck. I think its damage is plenty, so is there for supplementary slag and damage.

Sweet thanks for the replies!

Gentleman’s (critical) prefix is best when you use the Bee (or any other amp shield). For all other shields, the Barking (damage) prefix is the way to go.

I would only recommend that for the slag version, but honestly if they can’t/don’t want to be picky barking, banbury, or gentlemen’s are all perfectly useable.

Oh btw my apologies if it seems like i single you out for criticism a lot, it’s nothing personal

No worries! It’s just funny the debate that just refuses to die about Banbury, Barking and Gentemans. I use the first two equally.

I use whatever one I get. You can make any of them work as long as you treat them like the weapon they are, not the one you want them to be!

Well, unless you’re doing something totally crazy like time trials… :stuck_out_tongue:
