So, I’m not a very good player but have really enjoyed my trip back to Borderlands 1. I’ve got to L65 or so, but really have got stuck trying to beat Knoxx again to enter the armory. I’ve got some reasonable gear (an old but great defilier, at level Double Anarchy/stinger etc ) but just cannot get him down quick enough before he gets his health back.
I’ve still got the gift shop open, which I use to farm.
So here I am seeking advice.
What build and weapon combo seem to work best on Knoxx this time through. i’ve tried all the obvious ones so I need a fresh perspective. I’m playing solo, on XB1.

Head shot him as much as you can to keep him off-balance and prevent him firing shock orbs. And watch out for the medics that spawn in - they’re probably what are regenerating his health. You’ll want to prioritize them over Knoxx.
I don’t know enough about build stuff in this game to give you advice but, if you’re stuck, I could drop in with my Lilith some time (also on XB1).
Theres a couple big rocks to the left of where u spawn in, you can duck in between them and use them for cover. Use a gunslinger com and invest in all his skills that increase fire rate and anything that boost pistols/revolvers. Use a high dmg revolver/ masher or a high rof machine pistol. Then go that spot by those rocks and keep shooting him in the face. You need to be constantly getting critical hits on him to keep him staggered. I can usually kill him in about a minute, i dont even worry about the medics. I just focus on knoxx… You ideally want him as close to you and the rocks as possible. If youre in the right spot there he cant hit u at all, and you should b able to crit him non stop until hes dead. Good luck
When the medics deploy their healing turrets, kill the turrets with your Defiler. Often enough the healing trails will go to the Medic instead of Knoxx. Learned that trick from a friend.
Otherwise, yeah, just try to crit Knoxx as much as possible. His armor really eats anything else.
Ok, the gunslinger com seems the best choice, I will go and keep looking for the best one I can find.
And yes, seen plenty of great video’s that showed the spots to sit and try to knock him back. One of the medics, usually during round 2, get him his health back.
In terms of the defilier, mine is only level 43. But its a two-shot, DL prefix (no numbers), scope with damage of 697. I have found and kept plenty of others, but none yet have the damage output of this. Should I try to find something more powerful version than this one to use for this mission? I have looked and farmed, but haven’t seen anything more than around 600. I vendor farm a lot, I assume that this is usually the best way to find a new version.
Thanks for the advice guys. My Lilith is fast approaching the same level, so I guess I will back asking the same advice for her soon!
Borderlands 1, even though there are some annoying bits (for me, FFYL movement, fast travel stations and probably grenades and rocket launchers) remains a damn good game despite its age. So much more too learn, but at least you can find and use legendaries, no matter what your capabilities are. I’ve played 2000 hours on Borderlands 2 as well and its fun, but many of the great weapons and shields will never come my way because I simply will never be able to beat the raid bosses solo. BL1, on the other hand, its possible to enjoy nearly all weapons.
As khimera said, if using a 2 shot defiler, the assassin com is the superior option dpswise. That said given the stats on your defiler are quite poor, an ammo regen gunslinger may still be handy
I recommend farming the Hyperion chest room in the robolution dlc for a better defiler/corrosive weapon/masher. A good corrosive liquid sniper should also make quick work of knoxx with the assassin com.
