So I’m about to farm the Hail after laughing flinks bandits in pieces with melee Krieg
I’m using the kitten as one of my favourite weapons especially with Krieg and gun Zero but the hail had been recommand for me. The fact that it procs bloodbath made me interested the most in this gun. But the fact that my inventory is limited and the kitten made good work for me in the past i’d like to hear what the community would recommanded for each character.
So should i use the kitten or the hail for Krieg, Zero, Maya, etc and why?
Wich gun for wich element / enemy type?
What prefix and weapon parts do you prefer?
Zer0: The Kitten is probably the best elemental AR for Zer0. The Hail can hit potentially higher DPS, but Zer0 doesn’t benefit as much from the splash, bonus crit or the weird spread as much as other classes do.
Krieg; Whichever suits your fancy. The Hail does proc BB, but from my experience, not very consistently, esp if you are going for crits.
Maya: Both the Hail and Kitten are great for Maya, but the Hail is esp noteworthy as Phaselock allows her to land easy crits and maximize its DPS.
The Hail really shines most on Axton and Gaige.
Prefix wise, Hail is probably the best with the Rabid prefix (it isn’t heavily affected by the accuracy deck). The Kitten works well with the Ferocious or Swift prefix.
You already know my opinions on the Hail ; but darrel pretty much nailed it. The most significant thing for me regarding this particular thread is that can’t stand the Kitten, so the Hail is always going to trump it - even for Zer0, who is in fact the poorest Hail user.
Regarding the prefix, Ferocious vs Rabid depends on the character for me. I was always a Rabid user, but once I started using Ferocious on Maya, I’ll never go back. Basically, if going for crits go Ferocious ; if going for body shots go Rabid.
Rabid ( Wild ) is usually a bad prefix for ARs but the grenadier barrel manages to minimize the accuracy loss ; but it’s still noticeable. If Maya’s got a target PL’d, you want to be that perfect distance so you can get the split and still land crits. The Ferocious is just that much more accurate to get you both optimally.
Gaige is clearly a Rabid user , Krieg depends ( Rabid for me ), Axton either.
Thank you all for the fast answers. I can’t say enough how awesome you guys (this whole community) are.
So I think i will go for a rabid and ferocious hail and figure out wich i like the most.
Will test it especially on Krieg and Maya.
If you master the learning curve of the hail then it will top the kitten. I use them both and i prefer the hail in raid bossing and kitten for mobbing.
The Hail will proc BB when its 80% splash damage kills an enemy. This gives the bullet a higher chance to kill the enemy as compared to the splash. If you are scoring crits, the bullet now deals almost 4 times the splash damage, meaning it is more likely to kill the enemy instead of the splash. It will have BB more consistently in flesh maps, but will fall away in loader maps, which is where the Hail generally shines the most.
The more you know
Thanks a lot !
Wait so there is splash and bullet damge on each shot with some guns. Wich of these damge gets boosted by bloodbath and Pain is Power? Does PP helps the hail to get the bb proc?
I think you’d have a better shot at proccing Blood Bath with the Hail at a distance. If you get the bullet split and the projectiles are raining down you’d maximize the chances of a splash kill in my opinion. I agree with @nat_zero_six about the different uses, Hail for large targets and Kitten for mobs. And if you get either with a scope I will be crying tears of rage right next to @Jefe. #ScopesOnlyOnSnipersAndSingleShotJakobsARs *possible exception to be made for the Scorpio

Oh you guys won’t like my gun collection
But mostly hip-firing because of the movement so they are often just for the appearance of the gun
there is splash and bullet damge on each shot with some guns
Take a Maliwan sniper and and a Hyperion sniper and shoot the ground. You’ll see the little elemental splash with the Maliwan that you won’t on the Hyperion.
Which of these damage gets boosted by bloodbath and Pain is Power? Does PP helps the hail to get the bb proc?
Both ; and probably not.
Strip the Flesh and Fuel the Blood may affect Blood Bath though. Not 100% sure.
Strip the Flesh boosts explosive damage, so I don’t think it does anything for elemental splash. Fuel the Blood boosts grenade damage, which does boost elemental splash (IIRC, please correct me if I’m wrong), so it might increase the chances of proccing Blood Bath.
So i got myself a rabid fire hail for Krieg and I have to say it is a really fun weapon to use.
It activates bloodbath almost every kill so i can use my granades for slagging and don’t have to swap weapons for bb or slag.
Only downside: it eats ammo even with this big pool from the rifles
Beside of this bb fact i can’t tell a difference in dps compared with the kitten but. I will keep both in my inventory with Krieg and watch out for ferocious hails for Maya.
With this in mind: let it rain!
I always use a Blood of the Ancients with AR and SG, and I’ve had no ammo issues.
Prefix wise, Hail is probably the best with the Rabid prefix (it isn’t heavily affected by the accuracy deck).
I disagree. Rabid prefix increases projectile velocity making the split take place further in the projectile path making it hard to reliably hit your target with both pellets. you want that split to be as tight/close together as possible allowing both pellets to hit your desired target. Swift falls into this category as well. you’ll want to stay away from Rabid and Swift for that reason. all other prefixes are acceptable, but the most sought after would be Ferocious.
Rabid prefix increases projectile velocity
Are you sure about that? It increases fire rate and damage and decreases accuracy but I’ve never seen any difference to the arc to indicate an increase in projectile speed.
Swift increases bullet speed and fire rate and is noticeable.
I watched that vid from Luke. He claims the Rabid has the same effect as the Swift but didn’t demonstrate it as he did the Swift. So not conclusive.
I’ll test this tonight. I have identical Hails that only differ in prefix.
Regardless, I’ll still likely stick to my recommendation for Rabid for Gaige and Krieg.
( this is turning into a Hail guide… )
From the relevant poster:
That’s Rabid on the left and Swift on the right (as it applies to the Hail).
the split take place further in the projectile path making it hard to reliably hit your target with both pellets
Got no problems with that would still recommend Pain is Power even if projectile speed isn’t increased with the rabid prefix.
Got myself a Ferocius hail so will test wich one fits better
