About Tubby Varkids

I saw contradictory info. I know you have to let them evolve but to what point.
My feeling is adult is good and that’s what the wiki says… :hushed:
But I also saw that you need to let them evolve from a badass pod…
Any (reliable) info?

My understanding of Tubby spawns is that any badass level enemy has a chance of spawning as a tubby variant. I have only ever seen tubby varkids in areas where badass varkids spawn initially, or popping out of badass pods. So my experience leads me to believe that you would need adult varkids to pod up for a Badass evolution to have a chance for tubbies to spawn as a result of evolution. But that’s anecdotal data from my 18 playthroughs, corroboration needed for validity.

That is the rational view which I think make the more sense. I had the feeling (and hope?) I’ve seen one from an adult pod before.

Pretty much done now but I’ll try to remember to validate that… Maybe… one day…

To add to this, I think I read somewhere here on the forums that the game code regards elemental spiderants (fire, corrosive, and slag) as badasses which is why we see more of them (Hallowed Hollow, the Dust) than other tubby enemies.

Springs eternal. It would be nice if they could spawn from earlier evolutions, I find adult varkids too annoying to let live generally. But I suppose if I ever want to see Vermi in person I’ll have to do it.

I saw Vermi from the safe distance of Youtube.
That was close enough for me! lol

I have no idea. If i see a tubby it’s just- die, loot holder!

Regarding tubby varkids that are the result of evolution, I’ve only seen them pop out of pods that are labeled badass or higher. I used to think it was just plain Badass Pods, but then I saw a tubby pop out of either a super badass or ultimate badass pod (forgot which heh, but I posted about it here soon after the session I saw it, have to go back and check…). Which also led me to wonder if a tubby could emerge from a Supreme Badass Pod that would normally hatch Vermi.

Does the tubby still spawn in the same manner regardless of pod? There’s no such thing as a super badass tubby, right? The only time I’ve seen tubby varkids , they’ve just appeared - I’ve never seen them spawn.

I wonder if Vermi is actually the tubby designated to the Supreme pod.

I believe that to be true, although I’d kinda like to see that. Especially if it improved drop chances or quality.

Same, but I’ve heard reports of it. Sort of like 2nd Gen pearls. Heard of them but never seen them.:upside_down_face:

What? You never saw one? They drop the super rare pearlescent COM! There’s a popular guy on Youtube talking about it! wink

Yeah, just a regular ol’ tubby. A super badass tubby would be interesting though; instead of a cute lil plush toy looking critter we get a bigger scarier looking cute plush toy looking critter.

Should I add this to the “Things we want in Borderlands 3” list, then?! :stuck_out_tongue:

:+1: Definitely.

I’ve actually seen a tubby varkid pop from its pod- I thought it was going to be a super BA version because the pod got to be so big- much larger than a normal adult pod (and maybe larger than a BA pod as well).

So a tubby varkid can spawn out of any pod atleast it is badass or higher? Imagine a tubby varkid spawns out of a supreme pod :joy:
Yeah finally got vermi! … NOPE

I can confirm they can spawn from pods. Just got one. Sorry, didn’t had time for a picture of the Tubby in flight but you can still see it.

Do you remember which stage the pod was that the Tubby popped out of? Quite the little beast, that one! (Insert funny Tide Pod reference here.)

Nah. I was just thinking about that.
I don’t think it was a badass pod but not 100% sure. Sorry, forgot about that part as I wasn’t there to test anything.

In my experience, I’ve never seen a tubby varkid actually emerge from a pod. I’ve seen about 70 emerge from the trucks in caustic caverns, but every badass pod I’ve ever watched pop has given me what I expected.
Truth be told I’d prefer they didn’t evolve into tubbies, since it would be so infuriating to be farming a quasar/vermi and instead have your varkid give you a bunny.

True I was “at that place” and close to the truck. But i also was actively shooting at that specific pod.
Maybe there’s a thing about the place… But I was shooting at the pod. Would need to be a one in a million timing to be from the truck. Not impossible but…

-edit- Still good to know. Thx for the insight.
