I’m sure most of you are like myself and have invested a lot of time building up your badass rank. If BL3 let’s us play as our past favorites, do you think they will let us bring over our hard earned bonuses? Or would that fundamentally ruin the balance of the game, especially for new players (not that it’s a competition). One shotting every enemy on day 1 would probably be boring.
So what about gradually letting our badass rank bleed over? We know the algorithms and Gearbox still has them, plus, the newer games can read your data files to at least see if you owned the older ones. Also, since between BL2 and TPS the numbers don’t align due to the tier 5 reward in BL2 being worth 100 points, what if for every badass token you get in BL3, you got a token bonus from BL2 and TPS (one or the other at a time, not simultaneously)? Given that you have diminishing returns after awhile and that you would actually have to have time spent in BL3 to get them, it wouldn’t accelerate your bonuses too quickly. And if you had redeemed 1,000 badass tokens in BL2 and 500 badass tokens in TPS, naturally you don’t get anymore bonus tokens in BL3 after the 1,500 mark.
It’s highly unlikely there will be an identical badass rank system.
If you look at it from a BL1 perspective : that version was based on bumping up stats for specific guns as you use them. The more shotgun kills you get, the more shotgun damage, reload, etc. you get. And it was character specific - not universal like BAR.
TPS was essentially a DLC of BL2 in that it used BL2 as a template.
BL3 will be a completely new game. Or at least it better be…
New ideas, concepts and gameplay are welcome, but it still has to have that Borderlands feel. I’d be severely disappointed if badass ranks were omitted altogether. I think they give the game a great amount of longevity and help create wacky play styles that normally wouldn’t be possible, and that excluding/removing them would be doing the game a great disservice.
The best of both worlds would be to have an amalgam of the BL1 weapon specialization system & BL2’s BAR, with the option to turn on/off individual functions (shield recharge rate for melee players for example…).

Whatever system they come up with, I would prefer starting over in a new game with a blank sheet. I’m sure those who fell victim to the infamous “slag-licked glitch” would be happy about that, too!
I don’t think they will and honestly hope they don’t. There are too many people who, one way or another cough exploitscough got their BAR to stupidly broken levels. Anything that delays people getting their gear/characters to that point is fine by me
Nah, I’m cool with the usual unique character customization or bonus starting gear as a ‘loyalty reward’ for having a saved game in the previous game, or owning the game, or whatever. I don’t want anything else to carry over, I wanna start fresh.
I’m sure there will be something like it. I personally want a mix of weapon proficiencies and BAR challenges.

I’d rather get a clean slate. I like the perk system, but for me the rpg aspect of Borderlands is a large part of the appeal. I get to learn, grow, and change alongside of my toons. It’s like taking a road trip with friends. You’re headed somewhere, but the destination is almost secondary to the journey in my opinion. That’s where most of the cool stories come from.
The problem is that it can be gamed, so I really doubt GBX would let that slide. Maybe if the BAR was server sided.
Honestly the only thing they can do for a carry over is give you some special gun or cosmetic for having your shift account tied to Borderlands 1 and 2 and the Presequal.
Or make it a one time offer- once you say no, it’s permanently disabled in your game for your profile. If you say yes, you still have the option to disable it during play but while you play you’ll accumulate badass points (or BAR points or whatever it’s going to be called…).
