Legendary Titan+Certain Shield

I’ve had this idea for quite awhile, but have disregarded it many times due to how unlikely it is to work. But maybe someone more enlightened than I can help find out whether or not this can work. So, I have a Leg. Titan mod. I like the bonuses it gives, and would very much like to build around it. I’m also familiar with builds that use the Rough Rider shield as a means to keep certain skills active at all times due to the 0 shield capacity. However, you can’t use the RR with the LT mod for the same effect since it technically brings your shield to a negative value. What I’m wondering is, would it be possible to obtain a shield that has the perfect capacity to work with the penalty present with the LT mod and in turn produce a makeshift RR? In further detail, I’ve done some math. For instance, if I equip a shield that has a capacity of 57694 listed on the card, it becomes 59340 once equipped. Divide those, get 1.0285298298. Look at my LT item card, shield penalty is -68973. Do the math, and ideally, I need a shield with a capacity of 67059 to make this work. Or 67060 if the game rounds up. Anyway, back to the point. I’m an avid Vladof rifle user, and the idea of having a constant through-the-roof fire rate, along with the other health regen, gun damage, etc. bonuses is very appealing to me. So, what’s the verdict? Is there a way to make this work? Or am I just thinking of a build that can never be?

You’re talking about using out of bubblegum to increase your fire rate constantly correct? If so maybe try a Tediore shield. With sal you’re always waist deep in enemies, so the shield would always be down. Maybe a blockade with parts that decrease shield capacity?

Yes, that’s correct. I could technically just use ANY shield with a low capacity, but I just thought it would be a cool coincidence if I could find one that had just the perfect capacity. I’m weird like that.

this might help you. I think somewhere between level 50 shield is what you are looking for.

I have to say that I do use the L. Titan with the RR- can’t really say that I’ve noticed some skills not working with this combo but then again I haven’t really paid attention to them. I’ll check this out…

Whenever I use LT w/ RR, the icon for Out Of Bubblegum doesn’t show at the bottom of my screen. I also get no fire rate increase.

A Love Thumper would work with its ridiculous shield recharge delay.

I have had the same struggle you describe and have tried to figure out ways to make it work.

The conclusion I came to is that none of the compromises I could think of were satisfactory.

The best thing IMO, is to replace the leg. Titan with the Leg Berserker and get your tankiness from 10/5 hard to kill rather than whatever the Titan gives you.

You get increased movement speed, so you can save a few points in bus, and the fire rate bonus is roughly equivalent to the damage bonus of the Titan…

It’s much less of a compromise than changing the shield IMO.

Finally, someone posted this thought that I too have had for quite some time now. I’ve always wondered if I found that right capacity shield if I could do what you’re trying to do. The OP is exactly what I’ve pondered for a long time but never really dug into it to attempt it. its always been in the back of my Vault Hunter mind. I never use the Leg. Titan and wanted to see if I could find a way to exploit out of Bubblegum like you’re trying to do. But if Chuck has tried to get it done and couldn’t, I’d venture to say it can’t be done.

thanks for posting this tho. I’ve always wondered…

If what you want is to exploit oobg more that exploring Brawn as a strategy, I suggest you try the war dog COM instead

I’ll have to keep that in mind for the Rev- he’s got a L. Bererker that I rarely use these days…

I guess to bring a sad end to this idea, I did some more number crunching, along with an experiment. Level 29 Sal w/ a Titan COM, shield penalty of -165. Did the math of current shield cap./ item card shield cap. and got 1.05, then divided 165/1.05=157. Went to my level 9 Psycho and actually managed to find a shield with 157 cap. Swapped it to my Sal, and lo and behold, no shield bar. So I guess the makeshift RR really is impossible. What a bummer.
