Which one is better?

Hello fellow Vault Hunters,

so recently I got two Vladof Droog sniper rifles in search of a crit-machine for my Zer0:

Pros: LV.8, Vladof grip and stock, Mag Size accessory (having 5/5 points invested in AOWTG, it requires one less reload to empty the full SR ammo capacity of 132 bullets)
Cons: Fire element

&

Pros: Vladof grip and stock, non-elemental, Stability accessory (more shots at critical spots, more CA stacks gained every time I’m out of the ammo)
Cons: LV.50 (?)

Now the question is: which one of these snipers is better for gaining huge numbers of CA stacks (say, around 350-400) to kill bosses at OP8 and why?

  • LV.8 Bolshy Droog
  • LV.50 Dobby Droog

Thanks in advance.

The only answer that really matters is… The one that YOU prefer! Both will do the job just fine. A crit is a crit! No matter the damage or the element.

I’d prefer the lower level one for very high stacking for raid boss farming but it’s up to you
I’m thinking more vorac and Hyperious where there will be armored targets that will take less damage from fire and honestly the non elemental one will hit good damage before the fire in a shorter amount of time (guessing)

If you’re just using it to stack, I’d go with the lower-level one. For directly fighting larger bosses, it might not matter, but for “regular” mobs (of the sort where you might try to accumulate stacks on the way to a large boss) the OP8 weapon may burn through the mob before you get a high stack count, eliminating stack opportunities.

If I’m going to pre-stack, I prefer to pick a single target (whatever is the easiest, like slow moving or stationary) and load up on that guy, then switch to whatever weapon I’ll actually use, and coast along on my decaying stack (if the mob is already dead from pre-stacking, the stack is wasted while I look for more enemies). Like @Ronnie_Rayburn said, it depends on what you want out of your stack.

I’d say the level 8 Droog because of the superior Magazine Size and the fact that high CA stacks could perhaps kill the enemy that you’re stacking on with the level 50 one.

I can’t see the fire element as being a con… What does it matter ?

Level 8 with better mag for me.

If used against a fleshy enemy (say, it’s a Bruiser coming out before Pete), the LV.8 Droog will sooner or later light them on fire, making further CA staking less convenient because of the fire animation and DoT ticks.

Anyway, does anyone know the exact Zer0’s gun damage formula and how many HP does an average OP8 enemy have (along with their HP regen rate)? I’d like to do a bit of math to see if the LV.50 Droog given enough CA stacks can theoretically kill an OP8 enemy or not before I get to OP8 myself.

So, nobody knows the formula?

Meanwhile I got another LV.8 Droog

The poll is closed - thanks everyone for voting and sharing your thoughts on the topic!

Despite of its being an incendiary one, the Skorry Droog from the pic above has proven to be a beast at stacking CA on Bonehead before entering the Assassins’ area during my DG Peak runs to reach the OP8 - I’ll definitely keep it in my backpack at all times, and I’m pretty sure the same works for the Bolshy Droog applied against Pete and Vorac as well.

@HeavenlyAnarchy’s point about the damage rates is correct - now I’m certain that the fire element on both of my low level Droogs is actually an advantage because a lower base damage value (with the fixed DoT rate!) coming as a penalty for having an elemental accessory is better at CA stacking than a non-elemental higher base damage value which will do more damage initially and further on at any given CA stack count.

I think this topic can be closed now. Thanks everyone!
