Most heavily reliant character on transfusion grenades

I find I have to keep switching to these constantly with Zero, to keep his health up

I have the skill where he gets life back by melee kill at max 5 level but it still gives me back pathetic amount of health

Zer0 does indeed have poor healing skills ( Gaige is worse but at least has shield skills to compensate ) ; but the two skills he has become more effective as you level up.

Resurgence only becomes effective once you get Many Must Fall , and is therefore dependent on getting MMF chains. Most melee players at high levels will still just put in one point to be boosted by a Legendary Ninja. If you’re at a lower level, put these points into the Cunning tree instead and work your way to Innervate and Death Blossom.

Innervate is an excellent skill, but requires improved cooldown to be most effective. A cooldown relic is your most important piece of gear regardless of your build.

Once you get a Rubi things get much better as you can hold it while throwing kunai for instant healing.

Do you mind letting us know gear, level and build?

I’m currently level 36 and levelled like this http://bl2skills.com/assassin.html#000000000050000000003523210541

I breezed through 1st playthrough (easy with any character), TVHM is harder, sometimes I switch to the regen mod against bosses and stuff (Mad Mike blew me away with his rocket launcher a good few times).

But yeah I love using Vladoff flame grenades or strong mirvs but find I have to constantly switch transfusion grenades for health buffs

Tough to know what to recommend for build.

You have MMF which means you’re centered on melee.

If you have Grim spec’d that means you’re not using a roid shield, which you’re going to need if you’re going to get MMF chains in UVHM. If you’re able to get chains at the moment, I guess you could keep it, but count on dumping it if you’re sticking with melee.
Backstab and Killing Bl0w need to be maxed for melee. F0ll0wthr0ugh is a core skill for MMF and general survivability - max it.
Be Like Water and Like the Wind give you very little : fine to fill out the tree if you have left over points, but otherwise not worth your points at your level.
Ir0n Hand : it could be argued that health stacking might be counterproductive at the moment.

If you’re going to keep Grim, try this ( not that it’s an ideal build in any way )

For better survivability, concentrate on the middle tree instead.

yehh I’m not really that keen on kill skills, but tbh I can see how they would work amazingly with Many Must Fall

good set-up though, I can see it being very powerful

I still like to run-and-gun with Zero, particularly with pistols, I find he is very powerful with hyperion and maliwan with his awesome pistol buffer mod. I tend to use Deception almost more like a panic escape (actually I do so with most special skills in BL games) rather than a straight up offensive tool.

I’m not sure about the middle being much better for survivability, you know why? I played it a year or so ago, and was getting killed plenty also. I really just do agree that Zero is really brittle, more so than the others, for the cost of being so powerfully agressive at higher levels. Anyway I will be sure to head further down middle with following levels to get to next health regen skill.

Zero is really powerful at high levels, can’t deny.
But I don’t know if I will be able to use him to solo take down Finks Slaughterhouse at UVHM, a challenge I still have not completed, with any VH, and one I plan on doing in 2018, probably with a youtube video to show it.

Consider going with a Roid shield, and dumping Grim. It will help you in getting those MMF chains, and thus give you the health regen you seek. It will also allow you to use a dufferent type of grenade. Perhaps one for shield stripping…

I honestly think you should just cap Bloodshed at the 3rd tier if you’re not going to go with melee / roid shield.

It’s really choose MMF and all that goes with it ( melee, roid, bladed Rubi ) … or keep a few finishing skills ( Backstab, Followthrough, Killing Blow ) to supplement your shoot / stab hybrid style.

I strongly urge you to try the middle tree again :

  • Rising Shot works very well with your Hyperion pistols
  • Unforseen is very powerful - not quite Cloud Kill but damn near
  • Death Blossom and Death Mark is Zer0, period

Then focus on getting to tier 3 of the other trees.

  • B0re is a game changer in every sense of the word
  • One Shot One Kill combines with shotguns and Unforseen for incredible burst damage.

I’d go with something akin to this:

Thanks for your replies guys

But you know what, I think I’ll just use the health + regen mod to keep health up

skills and stats seem to be good enough now to not need the other mod buffs, and he’s doing OK, with many good weapons
