Some questions on the Mutator Arena

A few questions regarding the Mutator Arena:

  1. What does level 9 mean? Does it literally mean the enemies are 9 levels higher than you? Or is it simply a linear difficulty setting? Are badass enemies scaled more steeply like in UVHM?
  2. If the enemies are 9 levels higher than you - how does their health scale? I am not quite clear on the health formula in UVHM (though it should be something along the lines of 1.xx^n I suppose)
  3. I know this one is a tougher question, but how significant are the damage modifiers in the arena(ie CQB, critipistols, hipfire). Have been using the glitch whereby you can carry the difficulty setting of the arena to the rest of the DLC, and those UBA trojans certainly seem to be healthier than they are in the arena.

An answer to any of the above questions will be much appreciated!
(Side note: Lvl 9 Denial is probably the healthiest enemy in the game, even tougher than Lvl 9 Shadow-TP)

What madness is this?
Can you carry the other effects as well?

I’m not sure of the exact mechanics, but if you fail the Mutator round (generally accomplish this by simply jumping off the edge of the arena), the rest of the claptastic DLC (but not the main game) will scale to the difficulty setting you had set (till you leave the game). This includes some of the bosses as well. I don’t think the other effects transfer (could be wrong though).

From what I can tell, all mobs and badass enemies will have the difficulty setting applied to them. Denial Subroutine, Despair / Self-Loathing and the Sponx will also receive the appropriate scaling. However, Eclipse/EOS and Earworm do not scale though.

Man, I remember the time we accidentally did this. We died doing loot haxorz, left and went to Overlook, and were fighting Denial Subroutine. He was insanely difficult, I don’t think we even took half his shield down.

Great questions, I made a topic a while ago asking similar stuff. Khimera knew a little bit but I don’t think anyone has done anything conclusive, especially on the enemy levels/health values.

Holy Bajezus! I know what I’m doing when I get home. Scaling that ā– ā– ā– ā–  up to full cake and taking on the mini bosses. This is gonna be fuuuuuuuun!

You might be able to do it chaining kill skills with Nisha, but holy crap we were no match. I was on a Sapper Claptrap and she was Athena with a decent spec.

Didn’t matter, he was 2 OP 4 us. lol

I had company last night and an old friend from xboxlive hit me up to run through OP6 Peak with him. I need to do this. I’ll attempt it tonight, and I’ll record my efforts if I remember too.

I just did the mutator full cake glitch and holy crap was that difficult. Insanely hard. I could barely make it to DSR. The fight with DSR lasted longer than 10 min. With me ultimately dying. Got to the 2nd phase. Went through all weapon types as I ran out of ammo.

Athena kills him pretty easily, and I assume Claptrap does too. Nisha has a really hard time, as DSR spawns his tentacles for barely any time at all, making it very hard to get her kill skills up.

I’m sure Jack and Wilhelm can eventually chunk him down at an ā€œunfunā€ pace. And Aurelia struggles with just normal DSR…

Being immune to cryo DoT, resisting grenade damage (I think), and having immunity frames really puts a damper on a lot of what the characters rely on to get appealing kills.

I know you’re a Nisha main, but do you play the other characters? Just curious, as I don’t think I’ve ever asked.

Yes. I thought about trying with Athena. Maybe Jack if I fail with Athena.

II would think Nisha with a Flayer and +6 Tombstone should still shred him pretty hard. Maybe Pitchfork/Badaboom would work better. Was running a Storm Athena and could take him out fairly easily - just wasn’t able to bypass his phases without using any of the unobtainables. Flakker Clappy was also able to take him out, but that was a significantly longer fight. Jack was a long fight, too but I wasn’t really min-maxing either. So he definitely is killable, just that you would need a very optimized loadout to take him out.

I know! Usually I’d go in with Sapptrap and my glitch Ravager and just annihalate him.

I remember fighting him and thinking ā€œok, something isn’t right. The difference between 1p and 2p health isn’t this dramatic. lol

I thought so too, but nope. I got my ass handed to me a few times. My best run was my first. Being able to open the chest and get a kill off that bot. But once Tombstone faded, I was done dealing a lot of damage and shortly ran out of ammo. The next two runs were long but never enough without a kill.

Tried um. I just ended up draining that ammo pool. Nisha is squishy if she isn’t killing.

Ya, DSR was insanely harder. Just getting to DSR after glitching the mutator with a full cake was tough. I did go kill the Earworm before making my way to DSR. That was tougher than usual.

Have you messed around with the Moxxtails?

Hey Sun, I wasn’t sure if this was meant for me. But just in case, I have dabbled with them, but not for what I was trying specifically. I wouldn’t think Moxxitails would make much difference with the large gap in level I’m seemingly dealing with.

Still haven’t tried with anyone other than Nisha. Been busy with life.

I was thinking about the Moxxitail for regen of ammo. Maybe it’s not strong enough to make a difference.

Hmmmm? Well, the glitch (I haven’t tested this specifically) is supposedly only within the Claptastic DLC. So, going to Concordia for Moxxitails would void the level glitch. I would have to go get the Moxxitail before heading over to the mutator to attempt the full cake glitch. Not sure if me killing myself would void that Moxxitail? it’s been a while. can’t remember if it stays after death?

I just randomly started buying those a couple weeks ago to burn a few moonstones here and there, that’s a good question and I have absolutely no idea.

I just accidentally ran into this glitch. Was playing as doppleganger and where about 500~ MiP stacks and i initially noticed something was going on. Then a UBA Glitch + Brutal Linda destroyed me. Took me two tries with no MiP and jeezz. Got lucky with multiple Loop glitch on the Quad, but that thing was awfull. So yeah, seems like Timothy can do that too, i was using CEO class mod, 6x company man, sponored by fire maliwan Rustler’s Quad with L glitch, and for the crit matter, precision strike oz kit

Tim can do that easily. With the build shown in the video I once casually killed level 9 Shadow-TP. Btw, how could you have 500 MiP if you have to pay every time to be able to fight in the arena?
