RR with Banshee what shield/relic to use

Hello all. First of al this…FINALLY REACHED OP8 WITH ME SIREN AND IM SOOOO HAPPY xD

Oke so about my question.
I farmed a rough rider today buti have some questions abouit it. I have a breakneck banshee but doesnt the recharge rate conflict with RR? I thought that skills like ward could mess with the empty shield? Also with the banshee mod it just feels a bit like a waste to me cus well you cant take any advantage of its power. So what are your thoughts on that?

Normaly i use the bee but that just doesnt feel right with the banshee… or is it doable?

Also when i dont use the the bee i probablee want to switch weapons… but what are also good options to use? I prefer to use smg sniper and pistols atm.

And last i use corrosive bone but i see others say when using rr banshee its better to use blood of the acient? I hope you can give me some advice on relics.

Oh btw i dont have much weapons on 0p8. So i wanted to use rr/ babshee to farm a bit faster before i reset the story. ( already completed it on op2 so have pimp and sandhawk on that lvl)
I dont know if that is a smart thing to do? Or better wait a bit with using rr/ banshee for farming?

People usually use breakneck banshee with +6 on fleet in going from point a to point b, they use other builds to kill the intended target. If its a LLM a harold will kill phaselock target easily. Also some who are lucky can still use the +6 immolate on raids.

This has always irritated me. I love using the Rough Rider for combat, and my Bandit Siren uses melee shields, which the Banshee com works well with (Fleet, Backdraft for melee, Immolate for when things go wrong) but the actual stats of the com work against shieldless or shield-down play. If I could rework the com, I’d have it give increased health and a shield penalty.

If you want to go with a super-speedy build, the Banshee com can still work with the Rough Rider. Get a lower level one (mine is about 50) which makes the health penalty negligible. However, for normal combat I prefer a Legendary Nurse, or at least a combination of the two. You forsake the intensely fast play but the health regen allows for a lot of flexibility and can make Maya a real tank (I actually managed to do a Rough Rider Peak run with it).

In terms of relics, I usually go with a decent ammo relic, because at OP8 without the Bee you can get through a lot of rounds. Bone of the Ancients is never a bad choice though.

In terms of weapons… Maya can use just about anything! The Unkempt Harold and Pimpernel did me proud on my Peak run. Even without the Bee the Sand Hawk is a great weapon, and I love plasma casters, especially Maliwan. If you’re going down Harmony, elemental weapons work great with Life Tap. If you have built down Harmony, a Grog isn’t necessary even for mobbing, but I quite like other Moxxi weapons like the Heart Breaker and Good Touch.

@hattieinduni yes i saw my bright new op8 banshee cuts off a lot of heath… so thanks for the tip. Gonna farm a lower one first hehe.

@nat_zero_six oke good to know! Then i might swich back when i arrive!

So i can put points in skills like ward and intertia for when i switch mods? Or will that conflict with RR when i run to the location?

If I remember, I went to the Dragons in TVHM with OP8 gear and farmed them until I got one to drop - they have a suitably generous pool so it didn’t take too long!

The Rough Rider won’t be impeded by any shield skills, so you can spec Ward etc and it’ll work fine, you just won’t get any effect from them. The only conflict with it is when Deathtrap specced into Buck Up gets on the field. It won’t impact your shield but he’ll continually waste his time trying to recharge it (which I find quite amusing).

Haha ye remembered that one from this time i was playing gaige and a sal with RR jumped in. I was like “where the hell is my claptrap!”

OMG the UCP! I might… fix this for myself (though I’m surprised it hasn’t made it onto the official patch material)… maybe take a Matriarch and trade Sustenance for Fleet? :speak_no_evil:

Not that I’d use this often (Maya’s otherwise banned from using Jakobs material), but that’d be fun on occasion. Maybe she’ll just get her hands on some sluggish Turtle shield and call it a day.

The breakneck banshee / RR combo is more of a gimmick to allow speed running by taking advantage of having Fleet “always on” and boosted to 11. I don’t use it myself as I want those points elsewhere, but that setup is useful if you are doing a farm that requires you to run across the map (like for a Blockhead maybe)… It’s not a fighting setup, though there’s a niche build with the Scorched Banshee that allows you to spam a boosted backdraft quickly.

I wouldn’t bother with it myself. For gear, I recommend Derch’s youtube channel where he goes over the Top Gear for Maya and explains which weapons are good for Chain Reaction and which have splash boosted by Reaper. Maya has a wide range of suitable gear to choose from, so any strong weapon in the game will be workable with her.

Backdraft’s novas never trigger with The Rough Rider though - another reason I don’t usually use the Banshee com when I’m fighting with that shield. It works well with Tediore shields, and my Bandit Siren like’s it with roid.

I can confirm Maya can definitely have a lot of fun with both the Banshee and Rough Rider even if it isn’t part of the standard meta. She’s such a versatile character she can definitely rock it and it’s fun to rely heavily on her health skills in combination with speedy mobbing.

yeah, I was referring to the Scorched Banshee / Transformer setup with the shock slow hand (I think it might also work with the Thunderball Fists) to proc Backdraft continuously

I also admit I have a bias against this setup (RR/Breakneck Banshee) as when you run into people in public lobbies with it, it’s usually modders who have some one shot weapon, so they use this setup to speed run through everything as they are never in danger of dying. The folks like you who try to make creative builds with it are a minority unfortunately.

I feel your pain there! I tend not to play in public lobbies any more - too many idiots.

The only way for Maya to use the RR for combat purposes is for her to be heavily invested in he Harmony tree, have a maxed out Health relic, and play very carefully. That is for OP0, for anything higher she will get destroyed before she has a chance to really do anything despite having the best healing in the game.

In order for a character to be able to use the RR for anything but for gimmicks and especially to play effectively in the OP levels several criteria need to be met: A decent amount of damage reduction prior to slapping on the RR, lots of health, effective self healing, a burst healing mechanic, and not be crippled offensively in obtaining any of the previous requirements.

Outside of a Moxxi totting Salvador and outside of the UCP there is only one Vault Hunter that meets all those requirements: Krieg.

I always have a point or two in fleet and I always carry a lvl33 RR & Banshee mod.

Mostly its because im impatient so I switch shield & mod if I have to run any kind of distance.
The extra speed is usually worth the few seconds to switch and then switch back.

Like others have said though , if you get caught with your pants down it wont keep you on you feet for very long.

Challenge accepted. :+1:

OP8 Maya can go naked and rock a Rough Rider without a problem - as long as you don’t consider dying more than usual to be a problem, which I never have. You’ll be at a lot more at risk than with a Blockade but some of us like living on the edges of our nerves! :stuck_out_tongue: And as I mentioned above, it works best with elemental weapons, especially Maliwan. Jakobs will have a harder time of things for me because continual, belted out DPS is such an advantage with Life Tap. I used a Grog Nozzle when I ran the Peak but otherwise it’s not essential.

I’m definitely not saying it’s the easiest or most sensible way to play Maya, and it’s not her shield in the way it evidently is Krieg’s. But it can still be a lot of fun.

Probably the most stupid thing I ever did on Pandora (though there is competition for that) was a Rough Rider run of the Magic Slaughter Badass Round, at OP3 but without any Moxxi and without Ruin (the RR needs Harmony and I like Thoughtlock in there). Normally extra speed is an advantage… in there it was also a liability - I got to speed away from Thoughtlocked mobs but also ran into pits quite a lot. But even then it was possible. Life Tap is incredible.

I’ve never attempted it but after messing around with the RR on her at 72 I just found it to be too much of a glass jaw situation to want to try it. Those are just requirements that I have noticed any Vault Hunter needs to meet, or at least most of them, to be thoroughly effective at the higher levels without it being a “Because I can” experience. Assuming the usage of Moxxi’s weaponry though it is possible to do.

With the UCP I know Axton and Salvador can run around at OP8 with the RR, without any Moxxi, and using only Jakobs.

Took my Tediore Siren through Sawtooth Cauldron, up one side of the map and down the other for a full hour with a Rough Rider at OP3 (23GB of video :grimacing:). I had to be careful in places but could steamroll others. I took a knee five times (I think? Maybe four.), but never died. Rift Threshers were prioritized at a long distance, Heavy Nomads were Phaselocked, and Goliath Blasters ate a Fastball to pop their helmets. Everyone else was steamrolled if my kill skills were up and/or I wasn’t below half health (otherwise I’d be behind cover).

Notes about my setup:

  • All gear is OP3 except the Rough Rider, which is OP8. I didn’t realize until part way through… not sure it’d make a difference in “shield” strength for those five levels? The damage reduction is the same, but I might have more health with this one. I can try with an OP3 one if you’re interested to see how that goes.

  • I started with a slag Dart, but switched to the Gunerang shortly thereafter. Didn’t change any loaded items for the rest of the game.

  • No Moxxi weapons, but BAR is on (20% across the board)

  • No Fleet… it’s fun to run fast, but I’d rather have those points elsewhere.

  • Angelic Matriarch COM: +6 Elated and +5 Life Tap (plus extra health and magazine size)

  • Fastball is Explosive

  • Relic is a fire Bone of the Ancients

  • Vanilla game (no UCP). Really what I missed from the UCP was the Blight Phoenix buff. I might have also tried Recompense, but I’d have a hard time deciding where to pull those points from, given this build/loadout.

  • Here’s my stuff:
    loadout

  • Here’s my build:
    build

Also - saw one of these rare critters. The half dozen other Legendary Loot Midgets I came across at least dropped a relic (and I got a Fire Bee world drop). Stingy little pest.
