I use Grit on my usual spec just as a little last-resort if an enemy manages to bump my shield down, but for me it just isn’t as good as people like to say it is. Does anybody else agree?
I don’t spec Grit, but I’m under the impression that the proc chances are higher than indicated.
Maybe. I don’t have very good luck at all anyways lol.
Grit is awesome in UVHM. Saved my tail plenty of times.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s a bad skill at all. I just think it’s overrated.
It depends. If you just use the five points for it and don’t try to boost your health up to where it has a better chance of kicking it is not going to be all that reliable. However, if you go all out with boosting Axton’s health, use a Pointman COM with +5-6 points for Grit it becomes a lot more reliable.
Even without the Unofficial Community Patch my Leatherneck build can take a tremendous amount of punishment in OP0 and I have taken multiple rockets to the face and survived thanks to Grit. It obviously can still fail even with +5-6 points into it and boosting Axton’s health, hp regeneration, and overall survival up but it does far better than it would if left alone.
Past OP0 though Grit is not going to do a whole lot of good due to how much damage you take from all sources. It just does not have the opportunity to kick to save your hide very often save for rockets which have a chance to proc it twice.
I don’t honestly use the Pointman mod, maybe I should try it out. I think I had a legendary version on my newest Axton freshplay but I guess I might have sold it.
I guess I should clarify what I meant by “incredibly overrated”. I meant I don’t get why people lean on Grit like a crutch for survivability. I see all this praise for it like it’s Axton’s greatest skill. In the skill guide, it’s even compared to Money Shot and B0re. It’s a neat and useful talent but nothing more imo.
Those comparisons are a rather large stretch as the skill as I said previously requires a lot of investment to make it work well reliably. It can save you without investment, but it isn’t super reliable, and to invest in it enough to make it to where it is potent neuters Axton in other areas. While my Leatherneck build can handle UVHM with some difficulty with the Rough Rider and Jakobs weaponry the build is laughably ineffective in the OP levels.
Grit is the kind of thing where you know it’s working when you don’t notice or think about it. That perception can mean a lot in how good you feel it is.
It makes a pop/ping sound when it fires, no?
It makes an audible pinging noise and it will also appear where all buff icons are when active. Strangely enough Grit actually stacks, though for what purpose I haven’t a clue but if you are struck multiple times and it procs back to back it will start counting upwards.Grit also has a ridiculous chance of proccing from rocket launcher direct hits. I am no mathematician but I am assuming that with rockets hitting twice (the rocket itself followed by the explosion) Grit gets double the chance to proc with the player in question having a very good chance of surviving. Even if it only procs once Axton will survive a direct hit from a rocket launcher.
Outside of rocket launchers though Grit suffers terribly against any health gating damage such as that used by raid bosses, the Iron God, fully leveled up Goliaths, and a few other enemies. Also there are certain forms of damage that will not kick in Grit, such as the self inflicting damage of the Orphan Maker, static fire such as the pipes near Lilith’s lair, and a few others that I am sure I am not aware of.
It’s not a skill to cling to, but it’s nice. It’s RNG based so don’t pray for it to proc but be fortunate when it does.
Also, some people do overrate it.
Yeah, that’s the conclusion I’ve come to with the info from Troubled and everyone.
I love grit, i think its underated and not overated.
