Medical Mystery X-Communicate mystery

Thread opened for a separate discussion of what other guns, beyond the mission BlASSter, will give kills for this objective - and why. :thought_balloon:

(If the posts from ā€˜Random information’ could be brought over to here by a moderator that would be splendid!)
(Edit - thanks @Tokesy97, you’re a gem)

I’ll just get the numbers now, 1 sec.

It’s basically all the posts from 337 onwards, though a few were separate.

337 to 356

359 to 370

372 to 401

then the last two posts are about making this thread.

Hope that’s not a pain… it felt deserving of its own discussion.

Leveling an Axton through TVHM at the moment. I just discovered that the TB Fists are one of the weapons that will count towards completing Medical Mystery: X-Communicate. However, only the initial bullet will count towards the objective. The giant shock ball of death that it creates on impact will not count towards the mission objective.

Does that mean there are also some other specific weapons that count towards the mission objective? This is new to me, i always struggle with that mission in UVHM.

E-tech weapons generally. I thought there was a list of possible ones somewhere. So far, though, the only thing I’ve found is ā€œweapons with splash damageā€. IIRC the Swordsplosion counts?

We had this discussion about a month ago (here)

It seems that if the splash kills them, it won’t count, but the main projectile will - any e-tech ( including SWRDSPLSN ) should do it. However, Psymonkey claimed Torgue guns work as well ( not independently tested though  )

Very curious that the T-ball is treated as an e-tech. I wonder about the Logan’s Gun…

Looking at the Wiki, it states that the TB Fists original projectile gets grenade-boosted splash damage. That may be why only the main projectile can trigger progress in the mission.

Gotta go back and test that actually! Oh and spell my name right dammit! :stuck_out_tongue:

This whole thing is most vexing - I don’t think I have any characters that have this quest open in any mode to test.
However this is a worthwhile endeavour - because SCIENCE!
I vow to test this thoroughly.

And sorry @Psymonkee :anguished:

The real question of X-communicate (and Zapped in TPS) is: if the developers want you to see and try out these fun new guns, why do the give you the worst pieces of **** to try out? Just makes you never want to touch any of them again. My solution to that quest in UVHM has always been The Bee.

This is not really related or anything. I’m just salty that this stupidity happened in two games back to back and felt like venting now that it’s being discussed.

Torgue weapons in general do count, but it’s one of those hit-or-miss type things. Still, in Normal mode it’s a blessing, because that AR uses too much ammo for the limited ammo pool of a level 10 character. Can finish off the quest with some nice Harold action.

I’m wondering about other guns that get grenade boosts like Logan’s Gun , Hail, Blockhead, Omen, Hellfire.

These are the ones I’d like to test.

Because then you’d never turn the mission in and have an OP guaranteed drop for the entire story. (Although apparently that’s ok if the weapon drops in a DLC rather than the main game?)

Would be interested to see your conclusions! I figured it was to do with splash, and getting the kill with splash rather than the bullet damage (hence Maliwan snipers have a good chance to trigger it but it doesn’t happen all the time). But I’m not really confident I know the mechanics of splash (or grenade) damage. And I’m still baffled by the mystery of some etech guns not hurting pixies…

Kurt and I have been making a plan via PM. He’s got the weapons at hand and the mission open. I’m not at home so can’t check - but pretty sure any toons that have the mission open are in NVHM or TVHM and finding the weapons I need will be a chore.

So Kurt’s going to try to do the test for me. Unfortunately my internal list keeps expanding ( all that I’ve listed above plus the blue/purple and red-text Torgues ) and the mission concludes at 25 (?) kills, so this might take some creative accounting.

Best of luck!

I too get annoyed by that weapon. It makes a strong entry in the competition for worst gun in the game. As the forum’s Bandit advocate I have to disown that one :stuck_out_tongue:

If it’s done on PC you could set your save file to read only and it would reset the progress when you quit out and reload your character.

I have just bookmarked that post.
