Moments in BL2 You Never Quite Forget

I wanted to make a thread to commemorate those moments where a piece of dialogue, or some in-game action 'wow’ed you and made you appreciate the game just a little more.

For example:
Tiny Tina’s monologue at the end of her DLC. Shivers down my spine each and every time she falls to her knees. Such a well-written and well-staged piece.

as well as

The first time I played, I was doing one of the first quests, in which Hammerlock tasks you with getting a new shield, and it has one of those big shock barriers, and Claptrap tells you via echo
"Just run through it! You won’t take damage if you go fast enough!"
I didn’t quite die, but I was very grateful for Angel’s intervention and very upset with Claptrap for at least a moment afterword. But also laughing at myself and enjoying this stupid, stupid game.

What moments stick out in your mind?

It shocked me when Roland got shot from behind. That’s will never leave my head.

Yeah, I think that’s got to pretty much everybody. That, Bloodwing, and the first time you find out who Angel really is, of course. Having come from BL1 into BL2, I was really expecting Angel to be nothing more than an AI of some kind.

Yeah, and they call her an AI multiple times in BL2. Many, many times, starting from the first ten minutes of the game “Perks of being an artificial intelligence” all the way up to “…my AI control core atop Thousand Cuts” There’s such a thing as misleading dialogue, but then there’s pointless lying.

Love that one!

I thought Roland’s death was blindingly obvious - how could he not die, once Lilith showed up? Narrative causality, man, it was inevitable… :stuck_out_tongue:

Memorable moments - as I’ve noted in other threads, I’m a big fan of the Pretty Kingdom Soliloquy.

Tina’s reaction to oatmeal raisin cookies in the Torgue DLC - I don’t share that reaction, they’re fine, I’ll happily eat them, but chocolate chip is far superior! :cookie:

And Claptrap’s mathematically hilarious quest is always a favorite.

That sidequest is “F*CKING GOLD!”

On my very first playthough, first time I killed Flynt he dropped a Thunderball Fists.
I was familiar with the legendary / red-text concept from BL1, so I knew I had something.

Then I started killing things like I couldn’t believe…I looked at the red-text and thought - uh yeah, no sh*t.

For me that gun epitomizes my BL2 experience.

Orange day!
My son took over playing for me whilst I went to grab a smoke , and after a few minutes he shouted out that he’d just had an Impaler drop.
“Cool” , I thought.

30 seconds later he comes running out to tell me that another orange just dropped. This time a shotgun.
“You jammy sod” I’m thinking.

Then he shouts again that he found 2 legendarys in a chest! :anguished:

Then another 2 from ice statues :fearful:

At this point I put my smoke out went back in to see what the hell was going on.
He was in The Fridge and virtually every other ice statue and enemy was dropping a Legendary! :money_mouth:

It was like Christmas. :santa:

I thought it was just my game that had glitched , and I didnt want to leave the area in case it “broke the spell”, but eventually we’d opened every possible lootable source in the fridge & netted enough oranges to nearly fill 2 backpacks.

I travelled to Frostburn Canyon , and lo & behold its still raining oranges!

At that point I checked the forum and found out that others had started experiencing the same looty goodness.

Mine finally crapped out when I eventually thought to go to Scarletts treasure room .

I think I created more mules that day than my whole borderlands playing time combined.

Tl/DR - &# Me its raining orange!

Sorry , not story related. But its my most memorable BL2 moment.

Nothing really story related, but I remember my first legendary and pearl: I think it was a lv. 12 Kerblaster (gun is right, not sure about the level) and I got a NE Stalker that was lv. 53.

Back when the 4p glitch was still around, getting Vermi to spawn during a Son of Craw fight for the first time. (completely on accident) Funny enough, I don’t really remember the first time I saw Vermi in general. Pretty sure I saw him before that though.

First time I killed Terra: I remember being like “holy s***, a legendary class mod!” Had no idea it was guaranteed.

Many, many more, but those all immediately came to mind.

Similarly, on my very first playthrough ever, Doc Mercy dropped an Infinity on the sidequest mission. I picked it up and started using it (well, after I finished the ever-annoying “kill 67483784893 bandits with a crappy bandit e-tech AR” mission…) and I was like “oh cool this is like that Dove gun from BL1.” It wasn’t my first-ever legendary drop if I remember right though… I’m pretty sure the first was a Nasty Surprise that was a world drop on one of the Three Horns maps as I was semi-aimlessly exploring around. I just remember seeing the “Supplies!” red text and thinking “oh this game has legendary items with cute red text too… cool… a grenade too.”

One of the defining moments of BL2 for me was seeing Captain Flynt’s ship for the first time after getting past Boom Bewm and through the gate and narrow passage. That visual and the accompanying music defines my early BL2 experience and I feel nostalgic every time I pass the same spot. (Side note: the ambient music for Liar’s Berg/Southern Shelf is my favorite in the game. Just recently I had music turned off because I was really getting sick of the Dust music after numerous tubby and Lyuda farming runs, but I went to Southern Shelf to respec at the quick change station at Liar’s Berg instead of Sanctuary for once, and just had to turn the music back on. )

I still believe this is Claptrap getting revenge on us (the players) for ruining his glorious Robolution.

My first legendary was a Bonus Package from Boom Bewm on my very first playthrough of the game. My initial reaction was, “Oh, cool, an early legendary. I guess they drop as frequently as they did in BL1!” Cue me not getting another legendary before hitting the level cap.

EDIT: wrong “cue” >_<

The thing that made the biggest impact on me was my first playthrough. It was magic!

Another memorable moment in the game, but not in a good way, was when I first played the Torgue dlc. Everything was fine, and then… Tiny Tina appears! With the most embarrassing dialogue I’ve ever heard in a game. What were you thinking, Gearbox? You must have had the same thing for breakfast that Randy Pitchford had when he performed with his guitar at E3. And that says something… Holy shirt!

Dammit, Gearbox! Things like that leave permanent scars on people. I feel violated! Traumatized!

Tiny Tina made a great comeback in TTAoDK, with some fantastic dialogue, so she came out on top in the end.

The first time I encountered a Badass Pyre Thresher.

BOOM!! HEALTHGATE!!!

“OMG WHAT THE ACTUAL F IS THAT GIANT FIRE THING THAT JUST…!”

FFYL

Also, I remember my first chubby/tubby well. Caustic Caverns, first ever playthrough, chubby varkid came out of a rocking dump truck. Killed it, got the Cute Loot achievement, yay! It dropped a Bunny, which I tried to use for awhile until I FFLY’ed myself with an unintended reload while trying squeeze off a shot while peeking from behind cover.

Literal hours of level 50 Maya not-quite killing him, my brother asking me what the heck I was hoping to accomplish (Wasn’t it obvious? I WANT TO KILL THAT F*CKING BIG ASS THRESHER!) and then finally, gloriously, he died, and I I just sat there shaking before going, ok, let’s go sidequest I guess? idk

But… I DO want to grow up to be big and strong and kick Piston in the butt-butt

Sounds like my very first time going up against the Warrior, playing Axton, and still not know what the heck was going on with FPS games. I think it took me close to 40 minutes at level 30? No way does it take that long now!

…You think that’s bad? You don’t want to know my BNK-3R story. But I’ll tell it anyway

My family never had a TV, so I had to game on my dad’s PC. Which had parental controls, which were merciless in timing you out. This was on my first character (Maya). I remember doing the BNK-3R sequence, getting to BNK-3R… and getting slaughtered by the jerkbag, over and over. And just when I was getting close to killing him, I was timed out. I ran, asked my dad for more time, and before I could finish the fight, was killed. I was devastated. There was no way I could kill him in the time I had left. I logged off. The next day, all of my two hours were spent fighting BNK-3R, and I finally killed him thanks to another gracious time extension my father thought I had earned. To this day I wonder how that could ever possibly have been an issue. He’s such a big cuddly pushover at OP8 compared to that brutal NVHM fight.

Agreed. There were even a couple of misty eyed moments in there before she “got it…”. There were many, many, “oh, how cool!” moments in BL2, enough to make it my fave of all time. One element that always brings a smile is the wry irony built into NPC dialog, such as the public “service,” announcements in Overlook - LOL. How 'bout those Orcs? “No more smash smash… broken…” I also still chuckle at the Knight’s dialog in the same DLC, something like, “he’s blinded by our brilliance!” LOL.

Memorable Game Event Moments:

  1. Sanctuary taking off. It was mildly disturbing knowing I’d lost my safe hang out and my crew, not knowing what lay in store. Very cool.
  2. The complexity of Jack. Great humor. Sometimes I’d feel a bit sorry for him, sometimes I liked him, I mostly just wanted to punch him. Great job with this antagonist.
  3. Blast from the past Mordeci jumping in and covering my six. He was my “go to,” for BL1, it was nice having him pop in to BL2. In fact, I liked having Zero pop in on me in TFTB.
  4. The enemy variety in the Steam Plant. Good pace and escalation of challenge. Definitely a constant “okay, now what’s around this corner??” feel of anticipation that I enjoyed.
  5. The Bandit Technical. Oh yeah… who doesn’t want to take an old Ford Bronco and make one of these?
Keep up the great work - best wishes on next iteration development!

My favourite Tina dialogue is when she drops the Vault Hunters into a trap.

Lillith : "Tina , how do we get out?“
Tina : " you cant , you trapped son!”

Its so simple but it cracks me up for some reason.
