Looking for a Sniper/Pistol leveling guide

I’m a bit new with using Zer0, and I’ve tried some work with a pistol build (specifically this one), but I’m looking for more of a leveling guide, especially for TVHM-OP8. I’ve gotten a couple of other characters (Gaige and Axton) to TVHM, and I’m working on getting a Salvador there as well, but I wanted to level up a Zer0 as well. Here’s what my current skill set is at:

I’ve finished Normal mode and have been working on some of the DLCs (finished Scarlett’s and started Torgue’s). Does anyone have/know of where I can find a good leveling guide for using either snipers or pistols? I’d prefer snipers, but I know that I’ll eventually have to use pistols for raid bosses and such.

Thanks in advance

Would start by trying to get points in B0re, which is essential for gun builds. Maybe take some of those points out of Death Blossom and Two Fang and put them into B0re and Velocity. Innervate is important as the extra movement speed allows a gun Zer0 to get into position (and ensure multiple enemies critical spots) are lined up) before firing (coming out of deception). That’s my two thoughts anyway.

I got some of the best advice available in this thread. These guys know what they’re talking about, and the advice they gave me has served me well.

Ok, thanks for the help on this. I think my first step is to respec to look more like this: http://bl2skills.com/assassin.html#502000000050455105010000000000. Gear-wise, here’s what I’m looking at: I’ve currently got a random collection of weapons, mostly pistols, including a React Hornet along with some other elemental pistols and a TMP, and I’ve got the sniper rifles pictured below (sorry for the image sizes):

I’ve been using an adaptive shield and a survivor class mod for the time being. Should I try and farm for better gear before starting TVHM? If so, what should I be on the lookout for and where is the best place to farm? I was thinking I should just farm the Gingerton train chest in the Mercenary Day Headhunter DLC.

Also, random aside, but can a strictly sniper build beat Hyperious? I tried with my current build using mainly my TMP pistol and the bone shredder SMG and I had bore but I had some difficulty beating the mission for Hyperious. I want to eventually be able to farm him because I want to get a Norfleet for other characters (I’ve never gotten one before).

Thanks again for the help

It’s usually not worth it to farm for better gear before TVHM. You will get level 30 gear, and early on in TVHM, you will start getting white gear that’s better than what you farmed for. A couple of runs through Gingerton could be worth it, but can also get you a bit overleveld for a while. The snipers you have will work until you get to Sanctuary, at least.

Zero is probably the only character that can solo Hyperius with a Sniper. It’s not as hard as you may think, as this clip will demonstrate.

Gotcha. I did do a couple of runs through gingerton and got a better green rarity sniper rifle and I’m now at level 40, so I guess I’ll start working on playing through TVHM. I also got a level 35 Transformer shield, not sure if it’s worth running over the adaptive shield I already had though. I’ll probably give it a try and see how it goes.

The only thing that really matters in the end, is if YOU think it’s worth using. If you like it, then you should use it. NVHM and TVHM are fairly forgiving when it comes down to choice of gear. UVHM is another story, though… But even there, you can still get things done with green and white gear. It just takes a few more bullets.

Gotcha. Thanks for the help. I’ll give it a shot but I expect to die a fair amount lol

Using what you posted earlier, I’d suggest aiming for this:

Getting B0re is good and after that putting points into Bloodshed to get Grim for UVHM is a good idea (not necessary right then if you want to pick it up later but it’s my suggestion).

After that you have good choises depending on what you are mostly using. OSOK does wonders for most snipers and shotguns, F0ll0wthr0ugh is an awesome kill skill that you’ll likely want to invest points into at some point. You can grab Execute if you want too.

I’d suggest leaving At one with the gun and Critical ascension pretty much as the last things you pick up (those and 5th point in Rising shot if you can afford it). They are very important for a sniper Zer0 but you really don’t need them before the end game IMO and investing points into to go down the tree and get them might be restricting yourself from using some of the good guns you might find while leveling or use them and have skill points that do nothing for the weapon you are currently packing.

Just a heads up, pistols and snipers on the same build might end up contradicting a bit. From the top of my head I can’t think of a pistol that doesn’t benefit from 2F but that skill can make sniping awkward, though I know some people snipe with it and do just fine. Personal preference there.

Pistols also make no use of the last 2 skills from Sniping tree and they could be used to make pistols a lot more effective; Velocity suits pistols very well but it can totally butcher some of the best snipers in the game due to how bullet speed works.

Also, you can solo snipe raid bosses. It does pretty much require a couple of the best snipers that you can get and in a couple of cases involves abusing some wonky game mechanics but it can be done. If you want to farm them and not just kill them for the credit, I’d suggest leveling up Sal too. Raid farming with him is very efficient and you’ll get less gray hairs from dying on a near-miss in a critical spot. The peak climb is easy and he’s mostly not hard to upgrade equipment up to your level either.
