So I finally got a character to level 72, and I’ve tried Digistruct Peak a few times but it’s looking pretty brutal. My gear is nothing special (I haven’t farmed for any uniques) and I’m running an Infiltrator hybrid Zero.
Is it even worth trying to solo this, or should I jump online and get a party going?
I’d hate to get like 90% of the way through it and realize the last boss is impossible to solo, or something like that.
EDIT: I guess another way of asking my question is, should I be out farming for some uniques before I bother trying to solo Digistruct Peak?
Unlocking OP1, 2 & 3 are actually pretty simple ( at least to me - I’ve got 5 characters ranging from OP4 - OP8 ). Unlocking OP4 and up is when gear starts to matter.
There is certain gear that is easy farming that is worth getting every level or two : Maggie, Hornet, Hammer Buster, Lyuda, etc.
This thread has masses of great info:
I’ve not played Zero beyond TVHM, so I’m not sure about him specifically but higher levels get very difficult solo ( the characters that are sub-OP8 are that way because I got sick of failing ).
Doing it solo is a pretty great feeling, but you may end up looking for help in later levels.
There are plenty of good guides for area specific strategies on the forums. In terms of actual equipment, the first 2 or 3 OP levels isn’t as demanding as the later ones. It is definitely possible to run through the first three OP levels with no uniques.
After that, what equipment you want is up to you e.g. which gear synergises well with your build. Keep in mind that you don’t need the weapon in all elements due to how they work in the peak.
There’s also a link in there to some jackass’ thread regarding elements ( it’s mine ) - if you’re not familiar with the upturned elemental typing on the Peak, I recommend checking the OP from where it says
"Edit: the short version of the Peak based on the linked post (which I recommend reading first as it contains proper testing) , some of my own testing and those who have reported in this thread:"
The “concept” is that your foes are digistructed so don’t follow the same rules as in the vanilla ( armour weak to corrosive, flesh to fire, blah, blah ). Armour is still weak to corrosive , flesh has no “typing” (no resistances or weaknesses), spiderants are weird. Check my thread for the breakdown.
Very short version : go 100% corrosive and you’re good
No problem at all. You explained it far more efficiently than I was going to.
And good luck to ThatBabyStealingDing with the peak.

I found that Zero was harder for me (the first time) in the early going than it was at later stages of the path to OP8. Figuring out how to deal with Rabid Skags and surveyors, and sorting out your target prioritization are two of the biggest pieces of the puzzle.
As far as gear goes… I like a fresh corrosive Pimpernel after unlocking OP6 for the OP6-OP7 and OP7-OP8 runs, but I did a lot of my second Zero’s Peak process using a Disturbed Stalker COM with an Infinity for trash and DPUH for coming out of Deception. I used Quasars almost exclusively, with any Tiny Tina grenade to replenish grenades as necessary between stages. Quasar + Grog = heals, control, and stripping enemy shields in one toss.
Best advice:
When you screw up, say “challenge accepted”, and problem solve it. The best players you’ll see make the game look like it’s moving almost in slow motion, because they’re relaxing in the moment and are able to clearly think their ways through the content. 99% of being “good” at this game is familiarity and understanding.
Handsome_Dad thanks to you and everyone else on this thread. The advice is truly appreciated.
I have another question, namely: is slag still useful in Digistruct Peak? I have a better idea now of elemental effects (shields still need to be stripped, enemies normally susceptible to fire are not, corrosive damage is a go-to, etc.) work. But I’ve been using a slag/life steal grenade mod forever. Should I swap out for a Tesla or something?
Yep, slag everything with the exception of slag skags, slag turrets and centurion spiderants, i don’t believe you can slag them.
Slag Pimp, Slagga and Florentine are some good options but Zero can make good use of longbow slag trans grenades and like @Handsome_Dad says keeping TT nades to help replenish if needed. I should add that some enemies as you’ve probably found in just playing Bl2 are too fast for trans grenades to reach (rabid skags, surveyors), hence the need for a slag weapon. I can think of one spawn at the Saturn’s that start with about 8 or 9 surveyors and unless they sit and hover, and a few rounds of ammo are probably better than one less grenade you might need later.

Advice about grenade mods is going to change depending on who you talk to. Man of Low Moral Fiber uses transfusions, iirc. Dotanuki used a hybrid melee/Pimpernel build with storm fronts to strip his and enemy shields. Those guys have been considered top tier Zero players, and I would never claim to be in their league as that class.
Having said that…
Even being a step (or more?) down from them, I was able to get two gun Zeros to OP8 completely solo, using Quasars for everything. I’ll admit that they’re such a cornerstone of my playstyle that they may even be a crutch. A low fuse Lobbed Quasar is absolutely the most used equipment for me in the Peak. [revisited after typing the above… I actually use Fastballs quite a bit as Zero, as well. I should get around to recording a Peak run using them as Zero]
At the end of the day, there are multiple great choices. Experiment with them, and find who you are as a Zero player. You may find that you love something totally different, like Crossfires or something.
Slag of course is important and becomes increasingly so as you go up ; but as Random mentioned, grenades won’t cut it for fast movers like rabids and surveyors or long targets ( turrets ).
I’ve used Magic Missiles a lot on the Peak and have even gotten good at slagging surveyors with them but a slag gun is much more reliable and efficient.
Turrets are a specific challenge ( on the OP4 run ) as you can’t really face tank them and if you don’t slag them, they will literally regenerate faster than you can damage them if using a weak gun.
This kinda means a Grog ( not my fave but sometimes needs must ) and a slag Pimp or Snider, at least from my view ; and grenades will be for control ( Quasar ) and/or healing ( Chain Lightning, Quasar, Storm Front or your trusty transfusions ).
A Hyperion shotgun is great for surveyors by the way - if you find a slag CC or Butcher keep it just for them!
This thread is VERY helpful and thank you as I will be starting a stroll through the Peak as a Lv72 solo Zer0 real soon. Hopefully I can agro–>fallback–>fire and rely on a mid/long range strategy as much as possible…
Check out @Handsome_Dad 's guide if you haven’t already and @Jefe 's on elements used at the Peak and you should be off and running. Good luck and have fun
