So I’ve been experimenting with using Scorn on my OP8 Maya lately and been pretty happy with it…when it works. I’m finding its strike rate at actually slagging things is pretty hit and miss and I can’t say it’s that reliable. Quite often it appears to target barrels and just leaves e.g. Loaders alone. Is there a statistical likelihood of slagging anyone knows of?
Come to think of it, I get that with my x2 Magic Missiles, too. Have to chuck out two or three at a time in order to reliably slag anything
Are you aiming Scorn directly at the target? I aim so the orb flies near but past the target, since the beams are more reliable at applying slag, and this gives them more air time to make the application (plus there’s usually an enemy downwind from the first target, so they all get some). Alternately, do you have any points in Flicker? The word on the street is that this helps with Scorn.
Thanks, both. Yes, I aim above so that the orb doesn’t actually hit anything and stays up longer, but for some reason it misses half the time. Can see the beams flying out but many enemies invariably end up “un-scorned.”
I’m playing with the height of the orb and trying to see if there’s a sweet spot. Doesn’t appear to be a pattern just yet

I usually thow it so it flies parallel to the ground, passing between as many enemies as possible for maximum slaggage. I also have points in Flickr, and hadn’t noticed a lack of slagging.
Thanks again. I can see beams coming out, but at best I’d say slagging only comes with a 50% chance. Maybe my expectations are too high! I do have a point in Flicker, which is boosted by the Leg Siren COM. It works a treat with missiles but so far I’d say it’s not that reliable as a slagging tool for me. Will persevere!
50% chance per hit sounds right, that’s about what I can observe too.
Don’t forget that most guns are at around 10% per shot, don’t shoot as fast as scorn, don’t shoot at multiple targets at the same time and they don’t auto aim.
Scorn is about as reliable as you get as far as slag sources go , excluding the guaranteed ones
fair enough. It must be my expectation levels, then. I was hoping/expecting that it would be virtually guaranteed, since it’s a top tier skill that only comes out once every 18 seconds, but I guess not!
It’s a free source of still very reliable slag, that can affect an entire screen at a time, is usable in FFYL, doesn’t use a gear slot or requires you to swap, on a button you will hardly ever use otherwise, that blows up barrels and piles, highlights hidden enemies and looks cool as hell.
Something I’d add is that from my experience the beam acts like a very low damage(and slag chance) fast firing stream of bullets. What this means is that any enemy moving towards it is hit far fewer times and generally doesn’t slag. This means that it often misses right when you’re being charged by a rabid or ironclad and really need the slag. I’ve found for best results with scorn a singularity first significantly improves it’s reliability.
As for is it worth it considering it’s right below Life Tap and is only a single point I wouldn’t spec Harmony without it.
Not to mention you can use it as a defensive skill, as scorn will pick off incoming missiles from say OMGWTH/constructors, or the missiles/drones of saturn.
Ya Scorn would probably only be useful on Invincible Son with all the mobs cuz on Hyp you probably want convergence with Ruin for Slag/ Corrosive grouping giving you near perfect control of the field.
