Vault Hunter Concept: Tolventha - Walking Fortress

"Sticks and stones will not break shield. Or bones, for that matter."

Backstory: Tolventha Kincaid was separated from her brother as an infant by Hyperion troops, abducted, and forced to train her whole life to become the perfect soldier. With no memory of her last name or any specific residents of Pandora, Tolventha was unsure of her true past - Although Hyperion assures her she was born on Helios. Craving knowledge but not wanting to be suspected of treason, Tolventha “snuck” into Helios’ personnel records one night and began researching herself and registered targets on Pandora. After many hours of sifting through names and profiles, Tolventha came across a connection - Her last name, and the last name of a man on Pandora by the name of Marcus. Tolventha wasn’t trained to believe in coincidences, and thus desperately wanted to travel to Pandora by herself to learn more about herself and of Marcus. Using her physical and intellectual training skills, she managed to override an escape pod and escape to Pandora. She’s yet to find Marcus himself, but admires his character from what she’s heard from his vending machines. Armed with a Hyperion riot shield and shotgun, she roams the wastelands of Pandora, in hopes of finding the infamous Vault and her brother - Though, not in any particular order.

Oh, and don’t ask her about the scars. She tried to hug the first Skag she found on Pandora. They didn’t teach her about Skags. She doesn’t like to admit it.

Height: 6’02"
Weight: 214 lbs.
Shield Height: 5’08"
Build: Truck-like
Personality: Gentle Giant
Occupation: Vault Hunter (Ex-Hyperion soldier)
Affiliation(s): None (Vault Hunters I guess? They can hate each other though)

Primary Ability: Get Behind Me!
Tolventha raises her shield, blocking all incoming frontal damage (180 degrees) for 12 seconds. During this time, she cannot use guns, but her melee attack becomes a Shield Bash, which deals more damage, has a larger hit radius, knocks back enemies, and stuns them for 1 second. While this ability is active, Tolventha gains increased shield recharge rate and decreased shield recharge delay. Tolventha can still sprint, jump, and change what direction she is facing while this ability is active. When the timer expires, Tolventha retains the increased shield recharge rate and decreased shield recharge delay buffs for an additional 12 seconds.
Melee Damage increase: +50%
Melee Radius increase: +25%
Shield Recharge Rate increase: +36%
Shield Recharge Delay decrease: -36%

Skill Trees:

Bunker Down: Skills revolve around increasing Max Health, decreasing damage Tolventha takes, and buffing her primary ability. Some examples of buffs could be reducing damage she takes from behind while using her riot shield, allowing her to pick up health kits while at full health to temporarily increase her Max Health, or increasing her durability and damage the longer she stays alive in combat.

Comradery: A skill tree for Multiplayer adventures. Would give her and her riot shield various buffs to help protect her allies, such as reducing damage allies take while she is using her ability, creating a healing radius around her when using her ability, or being able to instantly revive fallen allies with a melee attack.

Swat Officer: Improves melee capabilities, hence the name. Skills could potentially include melee damage upgrades, the ability to instantly kill enemies under a certain percentage of health with a melee attack, gaining damage resistance when hit by melee attacks, or even changing her basic punch attack into a headbutt! Huttah!

So this is not only my first Vault Hunter idea here on the forums, but my first post whatsoever as well! Feedback is greatly appreciated, and of course, so are compliments! No negativity, please. Criticism isn’t being negative.

You’d really need a lot more melee damage to make that work. Zero and krieg have 7-10X melee damage buffs. You’d definitely need to be able to throw grenades in the Action skill so you could group enemies, otherwise it wouldn’t feel good.

Also, a riot shield only needs 1 arm, so there should be something else to do besides shield bash. Maybe have different types of melee attacks like Brick did. At least have some skills that can upgrade the shields abilities, like dazing, bleed, or proc effects so that it stays interesting.

Otherwise it’s pretty good, especially for a first attempt.

Of course! Thanks! I wasn’t going to take the time to write out every single little skill she could possibly have, but I was thinking that one of her end-game skills she could learn would be the ability to wield the Riot shield 1-armed, and fire a gun with her other arm, with longer reload speed. But it’d still be there. Also, her riot shield is HUGE, so until that point, I figured it’d have to stay two handed.

As for the melee/grenade capabilities, yeah, she’d have a LOT of those. Although I’ve played the Borderlands games for like, ever, I’ve never really paid attention to stats like melee damage and stuff. I guess she would have a high melee damage multiplier as well, even more so when upgrading any skill tree that worked with her melees.

I imagined her Bunker Down skill tree also giving buffs to Explosive weapons, Rocket launchers and Shotguns. Ya know, stuff Torque would use. That way she has damage that isn’t totally reliant on hitting stuff and being really close-up.

Thanks for the reply though! Didn’t think anyone would notice this! :open_mouth:

It is a splendid start for something, even if it resembles Athena and other Nomad-esque concepts. Still, I really would have written out all the skills, since those and the concept art are the main reasons why people click on fanconcepts : P

Still, a real tank-character is something that thus far does not really exist, and I would like to see something like that in the future.

Maybe check out my only one, Erid, brand new, for a structured, detailed and hopefully successfull concept! It’s in the BL2 forums ^^
