Infinite Backpack Size Glitch

I was playing with my friend in Washburne Refinery, we were massacring Hyperious over and over and my friend started getting serious loot lag. Trouble is, we both had full backpacks. So I dropped my four equipped guns, picked up 4 new ones, ran over and sold them from my equipped slots. Then I did it again. After the third time, I realized I had sold a weapon I wanted to show my friend, so I went and bought it back. No big deal. Except, the item didn’t immediately go to my equipped slot, it went to my backpack. So now I had +1 backpack space. I picked up 4 more random weps and swapped one of them to the Hornet I had wanted to show him, and boom, it was a real weapon slot now. (Simply moving the item straight from my backpack to an equipped slot would have removed the extra slot). Long story short, this is an infinite backpack glitch, presuming you have an infinite supply of weapons, coms, shields, and relics to keep filling your 8 equipped slots with.
Good news: Backpacks are stable up to 500 items in your backpack and 8 equipped, and probably goes further, I didn’t take it past that.
Other good news: This does not affect load times (at least for me).
Bad news: If you do this the way I did it, you will lose money, I think due to Seraph sell/buyback values. I lost about 30million while adding 300 new backpack slots.

Has this been known about for a while, or did I just find something new and cool? I don’t know how often people sell and buyback their equipped items.

I didn’t know about this way to do it. I did know that every time you receive a weapon/item from a mission, you keep it regardless of inventory space. Stacking these up can give you a vastly increased inventory size. You can’t buy or pick up items, but if you equip one of the multitude of crappy greens you get from missions, you can just swap out something you want to pick up directly by holding the interact button ((E) on PC). Pretty handy.

Trying to get my head around what you’re describing here. You sell your 8 items to the vendor and then buy back once you’ve filled the slots with new loot? Interesting. (I know of the mission item trick that @nbrownlie237 mentions).

Overfilling comes with problems though. Vendors only hold 20 items, so if you go for 500 it will be a struggle to pick up guns that drop above your level, or customisation skins - you’re stuck with what can be exchanged in an active slot. I imagine you could drop all your items till you get an empty slot and then do it over again, but that would drive me crazy. Also, it might often rely on you being close to a vendor to do this, which isn’t always the case.

A note too, if you drop stuff from an overfull backpack and exit the map, it won’t be there when you come back as it normally would.

I personally prefer working with the restrictions the game imposes. I find this helps keep my inventory organised so I know what I’m using and what can be stored with mules; I have to think hard about what weapons I need, and it makes it easier to change weapons in tricky situations, especially coop games. Borderlands isn’t a loot hoarding exercise for me (not that I mean to diminish the experience of people who do play it for that).

You can buy it back before filling your slots with new loot, it goes straight to your backpack either way. And yes I knew about the quest rewards and resetting UVHM, my backpack was already at 200 before I found this yesterday. I play at OP8 so guns above my level are non-existent. Skins make me sad though. Same with Hammerlock’s “buy a shield” quest objective

Having to leave a rare skin on the ground for the sake of carrying 200 guns would definitely not be worth it for me (using 200+ guns on a regular basis is pretty incredible though). I much prefer making tough choices and using mules.

something that can carry that much would make a GREAT Mule though

True! As it stands most of my mules are also active characters, so that would come with the same practical problems. Also their shoulders would get tired :stuck_out_tongue: But yes I agree. I am hoping for a bit more non-glitch backpack space in Bl3.

or at least a lot bigger bank

You also can’t grenade jump if you’re overfilled. I usually just pick at the start of a character whether I do the glitch or not, and I stick with it.

You totally can - just carry a few green 'nade mods and sacrifice one when you’re doing the jump.

I have a neat little stunt I pull - If I’m in a situation where I can do it, I trigger a save using BAR, copy my active save file, dump my guns, and collect & activate the skin, since skin information is saved separately from the characters. Then I delete that character and the copy picks up from where alternate dimension Maya left off. All these little tricks I use, just so I can have all the good purple weapons I come across.
