Ive been trying to farm a Norfleet for a while now off of Hyperius to no avail. I have lost count of hte number of times ive blasted his face off but ive now got over 900 crystals from him so it must be a fair few times.
Currently all ive got from him is a Hornet (Legendary) and dozens of sereph guns that I sell to buy ammo for the next round.
Am I just unlucky or is hit drop rate really that poor? I didnt expect a Norfleet first time but would have expected at least 1 Legendary for every 5-6 kills since he is a raid boss, and his main drop before passing 500 crystals of loot!
What are others experiences of this? Is there any way to make the legendary drops stand out more since he has a habit of exploding upon death and some drops may just be getting missed?
I don’t know the rates but from fighting him a loot at best I expect a legendary once every 50 or so kills. Most bosses that have assigned drops are 1 in 10, he is far less since his pool is unique.
Now that one in 10 does not mean in 10 runs you will even get anything. Think of it as rolling a 10 sided die and trying to get a 1. You might get it on your first roll but you might also not get it for 50 rolls. Thats pretty much RNG. There is no memory each time is a fresh roll.
I don’t know hyps rate but I would guess its between 1 in 30 to 1 in 50. I could easily take 100+ kills to get it.
The biggest problem with Hyperius is his crowded loot pool, as well as the Norfleet he can drop the Hornet, Sledge’s Shotgun, Shredifier, and I believe the WTF and Kiss of Death as well, and possibly more. He’ll only drop one non-Seraph unique, and there’s only a chance that he’ll drop any, though I’m not sure what that chance is. I believe drop rates used to be 1/30 but were increased to 1/10, but as Derch said RNG does it’s own crazy thing. I’ve killed him hundreds of times, if not more, and never seen a Norfleet. That’s not anything to go by, that’s just (un)luck of the draw. I’d suggest farming for a non-unique E-tech launcher or a Badaboom in place of the Norfleet, it’s one of the most scarcely seen legendaries in the game since it only has two drop sources, one whose spawn rate is the equivalent of a legendary world drop (Vermi) and one with a very crowded loot pool.
Even if you get one, remember that it can come in four elemental flavours and you may be disappointed, a Badaboom is a much easier farm (King Mong isn’t tough and it takes barely a minute max to get to him) and the source only has one associated drop making it much easier to obtain.
I don’t know how many kills it took but I stopped farming Hyperious after getting my first and only Norfleet- in slag, of course… Needless to say, my Sal and Zero have max/near max seraph crystals…
There is some data on Hyperious in this thread. I did 1,000 kills of Hyperious at level 72 and recieved 16 norfleets. BlackHeartV did 700 kills at normal/true mode and recieved 14 norfleets.
I am not sure if you told me this yet but are you playing on the PS4 or Xbox One? I have this feeling that the Pyrophobia and the Norfleet switched places in Hyperius’s pools in the Hansome Collection for some reason.
It can’t be mere luck that the both of us get the Norfleet 10 times more often than we should, especially on average.
Combining mine and his data, we have 1700 kills with 30 Norfleets total, approximately 1:57~ (close to what it should be, thanks to having 6 items in the main pool.) That’s about 8.2 times higher than the expected rate (1:466 wasn’t it?). Meanwhile we have 6 Pyrophobias only, that’s about 1:258. While not clear proof of my hypothesis, RNG likely involved, it’s still far beyond what it should be and makes me believe they switched positions in the pool. It’s really the only explanation I have on why we get so many more Norfleets than others.
I really wish we could gather much larger data on this…
All of these runs were done on the ps4. I was able to do 10 kills without any freezing on the ps4. PS3 you’d be lucky to get past 5 kills before freezing.
Idk what my rates are, but uve gotten 4 or 5 total Norfleet drops from him. And I can farm him at least 10 times at a go with sal on ps3 with no problems. I do ealk over to grab the money, crystals and ammo, but leave the rest…
Very poor. I’ve tried on a number of lengthy farming sessions and never saw one drop. Probably the biggest waste of time in the game… Best off getting some people together and do a spot of Vermiverous fishing.
I farmed Hyperius yesterday and killed him 100 times. I took note of every legendary he dropped. I got 12 legendary drops. Here is what I got:
x1 Shredifier (No element)
x4 Whiskey Tango Foxtrot shields
x2 Hornets
x4 Sledge’s Shotguns
x1 Pyrophobia (Quite an unusual drop, never had it from him before)
2019, I know, I know. Just in case anyone sees this: I think it is funny that getting the Badaboom is way, way ,way less common than Norfleets from Hyperius. I can get a Norfleet every ten kills or so. One Badaboom in a year of playing. Playing heavily. Too much. I need to move on but I cant quit!! My Badaboom is level 25. Great for rocket jumping. The internet is great. I would have never, ever rocket jumped. See Sonny there was a time when a man had to figure out Legend of Zelda on his own…
On MY personal platform and disc I meant to say. PS3. Goty. I guess I’m pretty lucky with Norfleets. I think the Ogre and the Cobra are what keep me playing. Chasing the Dragon. Maybe someday.

I’m a little surprised you haven’t found more badabooms tbh - are you checking both locations where King Mong can spawn? (By the gate through from the FT area and beside the bridge to Arid Badlands/Boneyard)
