Bad Guns Made good

Salvador can make bad guns good, it’s pretty well known. But what guns do you think would be fun to use as Sal? They don’t have to be the best builds in the game but lets talk about how we can use underused guns just for the hell of it.

To start off one of my favorites is the seeker, it sucks baaaaad, but on Sal with a grog and a few kills you just look in an enemies direction and they die. Super lazy, kinda effective, loads of fun/

That part is kinda always true with Sal :stuck_out_tongue:

Anything that is considered bad because it is too slow works here since Sal is the master of fire rate buffs. Bandit shotguns come to mind, Dahl grenadiers … and if it wasnt for the Harold, people would have a pretty meh opinion of torgue pistols.

Bandit shotguns? Bad? Outrageous! I love them. Especially sawnoff.

Thinking about making a thread on early game gear for Sal, ie before I start farming, as I’m pretty lost on what’s appropriate for him.

Bandit shotguns aren’t bad: they’re still shotguns :stuck_out_tongue:

But they’re the worst brand of shotguns IMO
Some of their red text are good but generally speaking they are not so great.

Ooo I love them - they’re the only low accuracy shotguns I like. Long range I prefer Hyperion. Apart from the Ravager, Torgue shotguns aren’t really my thing either.

Farming and early levels should never be in the same sentence.

Quick and dirty guide:

Sal at early levels thrive on shotguns (especially Hyperion) and Vladof and Torgue weapons in general. Avoid Jakobs guns and Dahl pistols as semi-auto are a bit awkward when you have 2 triggers. Vladof and Maliwan Snipers are surprisingly good. SMGs are meh at best but the Lascaux is very nice since it has no recoil (a good feature when you can’t ADS) Hyperion guns seem like ideal given their reverse recoil but their SMGs and pistols are a bit weak while their Snipers are too slow. Their shotguns are amazingly good though.

Shield should be Adaptive
Grenades don’t matter but Mirvs are fun
Relics should be health or badges
COMs for leveling: War dog, Berserker, Hoarder, Beast, Renegade

Thanks!! And if I was going to do a manufacturer allegiance… which would you recommend?

I would have to check which brand makes which COM, but right now I would Definitely say Vladof.

Awesome! Yes, bullet regen would complement that nicely. Lol, Russian revolutionary Sal. Sorry OP, I will let the thread stay ot now!

Try Lead Storm in a Hoarder build. When Lay Waste activates and you get the bullet split it just melts everything.

I’ve tried quite a few weapon combinations with Moxxi weapons that aren’t the Grog Nozzle and had some mixed success.

The Hail and Lead Storm sound like a great combination, but they certainly are not. The Lead Storm has a longer range, and the Hail a steeper arc. It makes mobbing an interesting challenge though, and if you get up close and personal everything gets dead!
The Kitten and Shredifier. If you don’t care about accuracy or actually hitting your targets, this is the combination for you! Again, close-range DPS though the roof but you’ll struggle to hit anything that’s moving or not fat.
You’ll definitely want a Legendary Hoarder COM for these combos, and spec into Filled to the Brim, Inconceivable, and 5 Shots or 6.

SLOW HANDS! Seriously, this is probably the most entertaining loadout imaginable, and I’ve tried a lot of obscure ones. Same COM and skills as above, but these things do outrageous damage and they ACTUALLY HEAL YOU! Carry four, fire in top slot, slag in bottom, corrosive in left, and shock in right. Switch accordingly, and don’t forget heavy investment into skills that benefit from reloading and switching weapons!
NOTE: You’ll be much more likely to kill yourself than to be killed, but you’ll have no trouble getting a second wind. Jump and backpedal as you fire, and try not to fire at your feet if you can help it!
ANOTHER NOTE: As the Slow Hand is an E-tech shotgun (Splatgun) its damage output is entirely splash damage and will NOT benefit from Money Shot. Pros and cons however, you don’t need a direct hit to kill your enemies (or yourself!)

WANDERLUST!

  • Just kidding, it’s still ■■■■.

Dual Choppers are great if you hate ammo, and Salvador really hates ammo.

Lyudas are seriously awesome on Sal, but you might need a stockpile relic! Pimpernels are awesome too, why not use a Pimpernel AND a Lyuda? Pimp for slag, White Death for damage. I’ve tried it, and does it work? ANSWER: YES!

The Twister. Dual Twisters may be the most brokenly broken thing in the entire universe. Not the Borderlands universe, the actual universe. Run Brawn heavy and carry a lot of ammo, all the above mentioned skills preferably and maybe a stockpile relic too. If you like shotguns but you don’t like blowing yourself up with strange explosive-but-not-explosive alien orbs, this/these is/are the gun/s for you!

Speaking as someone who hasn’t actually played Salvador (yet):

Tediore guns.

Reason #1: When you’re gunzerking, reloading is a hassle. It uses time you could instead be shooting. Tediore guns have the fastest reloads (and you can throw them in the enemy’s face for a little bonus damage).

Reason #2: Tediore guns are notorious for having issues with going through ammo quickly (especially if, like me, it’s almost a reflex to reload between firefights) and salvador is the only vault hunter who can regenerate ammo.

Is there a list anywhere of which manufacturer makes which specific class mods?

I know there’s some of that info in the Allegiance thread, but it doesn’t seem to be complete (some mods aren’t listed anywhere, and I think I’ve spotted a couple that were listed in the wrong place).

There you go. Clicking on the individual links will provide you with information on who manufactures a specific COM and what the highest possible stats are on that particular COM.

I would never recommend using the Hail with anything other than another Hail. Lead Storm actually has very manageable arc by comparison.

I also break frequently from the norm of using the same weapon type in left and right hand. Yes, you miss out on the damage buff from Divergent Likeness but it’s worth it to have the two weapons you want.

Try Omens or a Blockhead with Sal. Ammo efficient and can be strong in either a Hoarder or conventional Money Shot focused build.

If you get a swift Lead storm, the arc is a bit longer and it does coincide with where the hail lands. Other than that, i’m 100% with you there.
