More of a question than a guide, there are just so many threads here I may have missed it while scanning, has anyone posted a FotF build for Sal? I typically run one for mobs with the Orphan Maker and Grog, my secondary build which I find equally enjoyable though also riskier yet more effective is a Slowhand build, I’ve never seen these used in-game but I’ve heard of others using the FotF, so have either been posted here before? If not I have screenshots of my builds/loadouts, might post them here? I notice Sal to be one of the most played toons at OP8 and most use the typical Grog/Harold build, but for mobs I find there are more effective specs and more fun ways to play than just the generic universal build.
Paging Mr. @Chuck80, Mr. @Chuck80 you have a Sal call on line non standard Gunzerk
I don’t see the need for a FotF “build” per se.
Whenever you are using a grog nozzle, the FotF will have great synergy with it by healing you with every Nova. Using a ROM can help keep it down, but if you’re using a ROM with Sal, you probably hold it in your left hand anyway
Almost any Sal build can benefit from it.
Sljm ran this shield with pretty much all of his builds, so any of his build would qualify as a “FotF build”
Look for long recharge delay and high damage, and unlike with Krieg, you should look for the Inflamable prefix this time.
As a side note, the FotF only works at short range while the slow hand will kill you if you use it from very close, so they kinda complete each other well.
I’d go Speedzerker.
Legendary Berserker, with skills like this.
Spec into I’m the Juggernaut instead of Asbestos, because you don’t want to shorten DoT duration. Keep your Moxxi weapon in hand. CAMB is your get-out-of-jail gambit. Sexual T serves to prop you up briefly if you take a bullet with no meat nearby for Moxxi/Nova healing.
Grand Titan would also serve very well, but I’m addicted to the speed bonus of the Legendary.
I disagree with a lot of that (not the idea, but the means to get there)
The point of FotF on Sal is to benefit from Moxxi weapons, so the most important thing is to gunzerk as long and as often as possible, and for that you need most of your early points in the Rampage tree.
If you do want to go for speed, I recommend something like this: http://bl2skills.com/gunzerker.html#110000000005135010415155005005000
Ain’t got time to bleed is twice as effective as T-Rex, but it only works while you are gunzerking, luckily this is what this spec does the best. It also makes Brawn a bit redundant since you will always have a Moxxi weapon at the ready anyway. Hard to kill is also very useful here since you’re effectively playing without a shield. The extra speed is nice with a FotF since it allows you to close the gap and use that shield more effectively.
As for the COM, If you want to go Brawn, I think the Leg. Titan is the best (it even has a shield capacity penalty to make sure that FotF gets down ASAP) 5/5 bus and incite is plenty of speed already
But unless you really dig the speed (which I do ) the most effective build for a FotF is most probably a Gunlust/Rampage one.
…What level is this for ?
Ha ha! That’s awesome.
I’m certainly guilty of using FotF as an excuse to run a Brawn build, because I want the speed buffs and I want Bubblegum. Also, Fistful of Hurt’s knockback gives you a chance to reburn big guys in your face. You can get healing from the strike that broke your shield.
Grand Titan is as good for me as Legendary, for this particular application.
What was your build for that Zerker/FoTF build you ran Slif, curious how it compares to Chuck80’s suggestion.
I hold my Orphan Maker in the right hand so I can keep the FotF down as long as possible, by FotF build I mean skills and gear specially designed for efficiency with that particular combo (OM and FotF) rather than just a standard build with the FotF thrown on.
The build I use for Slow Hands is very different, and I’m not fussed on going down as it’s not hard to get back up, I generally run a Hoarder COM with a 4 Slow Hand spec because the ammo consumption is massive. Also, splash damage doesn’t benefit from Moneyshot, so you can spend those five points elsewhere, like Divergent Likeness.
@Daemmerung I disagree with the heavy Brawn investment, typically with this spec I’d want a Moxxi gun for healing off the novas so Brawn Investment is wasted, I go as far as Bus That Can’t Slow Down simply for the movement speed as you mentioned, but I also spec for gun proficiency as FotF is resisted by a lot of enemies as well. As for a COM, with FotF I run Leg Gunzerker for indefinite Gunzerking, the longer I’m 'zerking the longer my FotF is active, Leg Berserker gives a nice speed boost but I don’t think a COM just for the special effect is worth the slot it takes up unless your build is specialised for say rocket jumping.
@ChemicalConundrum the build looks like this -
I avoid Inconceivable because occasionally I’ve gotten carried away with it and killed myself with the Orphan Maker lol, the reload gives me a brief delay between the self-damage and FotF pulse, besides you only have two shots and 50% of those will be a Moneyshot so why spoil that? I’m the Juggernaut and Asbestos are the just 'cause, and the fire rate increases are actually noticeable because contrary to the text Jakobs guns do not fire as fast as you can pull the trigger lol. The Orphan Maker deals massive damage, so as well as keeping my shield down it serves to demolish fire-resistant enemies.
This is the loadout, very basic -
Slag Singularity to group enemies into your nova and because Quasars tend to kill you, fire BotA which I’ve tested and does indeed boost the FotF nova damage, and an Inflammable FotF because all Maliwan parts = highest possible nova damage and radius. No need for other guns, this works at OP8 against any mobs in any area, the FotF deals enough damage to Loaders for Grog lifesteal and OM keeps it pulsing while killing whatever resists it.
Edit: This is a ton of fun and surprisingly effective, Sal is overrated in so many ways but the FotF is oddly underappreciated on him, he has one of the best methods for consistently keeping it down while tanking for days and dealing mass damage from two separate sources. Only Krieg excels in FotF use over Sal, obviously.
@Sljm ran a FotF in his infinite Gunzerker build. Even broke down ideal parts on the FotF. I think Anshin or Bandit parts offered the ideal set up where you had a good balance between damage, recharge delay, and recharge rate. Bandit seemed to work the best on Sal.
I could see a longer delay being ideal on certain builds, but as I use the Orphan Maker almost exclusively with this spec I prefer full Maliwan parts for max damage. I know the OM is far from the highest damaging gun in the game, but it’s underused because of the self-damage but with Sal you can easily bypass that with a Grog, while Gunzerking you actually gain 65% of the damage dealt to yourself back as lifesteal which find quite amusing. I don’t have a PS3 anymore so I can’t use Gibbed to make a long recharge FotF and I really CBF dashboarding eternally for the appropriate parts, even then I prefer the consistency of the OM over long periods of no damage resulting in a partial shield charge that stuffs up the whole nova pulse. If you have a link though I’d like to check it out.
Yep, here’s the link to the build: [Build] Salvador
I used FotF quite extensively and Maliwan was never really my favorite. I know it has the most damage but having a delay that short coupled with instant health regen leads to your shield recharging just enough to suspend the novas and you may not have a fully charged shield before the mob clears so you end up fighting without any novas. Of course having a long delay also means risking not have your shield recharged either but that longer delay means the novas are more likely to be continuing into the next fight.
I like all Anshin but it’s a bit tricky. Second longest delay and second highest damage to Maliwan. Bandit parts have the advantage of the fastest recharge rate and third longest delay. The damage isn’t very high but it’s really about just having a passive damage source that suits Sal’s style.
But you’re sporting the Orphan Maker so maybe a fast delay and recharge rate are easily manageable with Maliwan.
