Legendary drop rates seem underrated

So not that I’ve read very much upon the exact drop rates of the different legendaries on the three difficulties, but I know in general, compared to BL1 they are pretty low, but I seem to be find a lot of legendaries! The other day I was farming the 3/4 loot midgets in Preserve, with mission Doctors Orders, got 6 legendaries in about 2 hours on TVHM. Restarte on UVHM today, got a Bonus Package from Bewm/Boom (what ever… :stuck_out_tongue: ) first time. A few hours ago I got an Explicit Unkempt Harold from Savage Lee after about 6 kills, and now got a Nukem from Black Queen on second kill! And yesterday a Badaboom from King Mong after 8-12 kills, which is rarely descent considering the little time he takes to farm/kill. Might be just random luck, but on the higher difficulties I don’t always find legendaries extremely rare, which is cool!

The drop rates were increased substantially for baddies with specific drops tied to them a bit back. Farming is far more efficient than it used to be.

Except Gettle. That ****ing ****head won’t gimme an incendiary or corrosive, OP8 Lyuda. I hope he chokes on Skag nuts. And burns. Like, acid burn.

Aah okay, that sounds like a fair explanation. Perhaps the posts I’m reading about low drop rates might be old then… Still, don’t think they should be too high either. Kinda takes the fun out of finding a legendary when you’ve found 6 other in the last hours tho. Aah hahah, I’ve never tried to farm him, but suppose you’ve just gotta continue trying mate

It used to be 1/30 chance at designated drops, now it’s 1/10 and with RNG, you can be luckier or also worse.

Yep I used to enjoy posting stuff in the Item of the day thread, but I stopped bothering with it because I get so much crap to drop. If something’s really rare or whatever I will, but I’m always seeing legendaries, pearls, decent relics, etc. Nobody cares about my ten millionth OP6 Rolling Thunder or Bonus Package.

I actually find the current drop rates better than BL1, precisely because the rate of designated drops got increased. As a result, I get legendaries more frequently in BL2 than BL1 (per hour of play time). The addition of LLMs in UVHM also provides more legendary sources. World-drop legendaries are a different matter though.

Even 1 in 10 odds are tough if you’re looking for specific parts like @Handsome_Dad, though!

To be honest, i never had a problem with the drop rates in bl2. Even before the drop rate increase. I always got my fair share, and rarely had to farm a long time for a specific drop.

It is a bit weird to complain about the fact that legendary drop rates are too high and that it takes the fun out of finding them when you are FARMING for them, don’t you think.

Why are you farming in the first place ?
To find Legendaries, right ?
Then, it is better for you if you don’t spend a couple hours before finding one.

I think that the drop rates have been increased for the people that are playing the game, without extensive farming.
I know that I am in that case. I never quit without saving and rekill a boss to get another try at the loot. I sometime pay a visit to Savage Lee, if I see that he has spawned behind the car Catch-a-Ride (red dots appear on the mini-map).
For that population of players, the drop rates are pretty fine. You usually get a couple of them during a PT.

A fine example of why we can’t please everyone.

Personally the drop rate buff felt like due to the game’s life coming to an end. But when I thought of game design aspect, this higher drop rate opened a sense of exploration to players, where with 1/30 drop rate players might not even know about legendaries.

haha yeah, it’s al about that balance :stuck_out_tongue: It’s just, it’s not as satisfying getting a Legendary now, cause they’re easier to get. But yeah, it’s better for the regular player, and probably still pretty rare finding a legendary on Normal.

It’s actually just recently I’ve started building up towards end-game and started farming, so I guess I should be grateful. (Currently lvl 61 Hellborn Krieg.) It’s one thing with enemies like Savage Lee which are really easy to farm, but definitely appreciate the buff when it comes to larger bosses that take a fair amount of time to kill in themselves.

I suppose that might be an aspect yes. I was a long time hesitant to start farming and end-game (well, I haven’t reached end-game yet), but with a drop-rate buff, it doesn’t seem like such a hassle. And taking into account that on UVHM i reckon updating your weapon after a 4-6 lvls is more important than in NVHM or TVHM. So I will be farming Savage Lee after a couple of lvls for a new Harold, which isn’t completely impossible now

Yup, it’s also a good incentive to start farming for perfect parts. Now the real issue is the multi item drop table (like Warrior or Bunker or those with skins/heads customs).

haha, that’s something I’ve yet to do. I don’t really see how people tell the parts apart (no pun intended lol). Does the prefix have something to do with the parts, or does that just differentiate the stats from one another?

Hahah the CC will definitely be a priority, but even multi-drop bosses should be easier now at least

The drop rate changes really have added a lot to the fun by making it less of a chore to look for particular parts, prefixes, or elements. In the cases of guns which can have all 3, i would never have considered it with the old rates. As they are now, it’s not unreasonable to look for say, a Stopping Emperor, corrosive, with Dahl grip and stock, and Maliwan or Dahl sight. That configuration will be rarer than it used to be to get an Emp of any type (by a lot, even), but the rates make it less psychologically taxing by at least offering up more orange spikes.

I’m actually more of a stickler for specific parts/prefixes when it come to the unique rather than the legendary items- I’ll take a whatever flavor I get when it comes to things like the FotF but for guns like the Fibber, Pimpernel or Sand Hawk I try to get specific parts, prefixes and elements… (I have a level 72 shock Redundant Fibber that my new Gaige is just going to love…)

Some may agree with me, but when you actually want SPECIFIC items, with SPECIFC PARTS, and SPECIFIC ELEMENT, then you’ll not say what you said.

You may see more drops, but it gets to a point in the game where ‘most players’ will be looking for things with very particular parts. That’s when the realism that farming in this game still takes a huge amount of time to get those items.

Play Diablo 3 for a long time, and push the game as far as you can, then you’ll understand what good drops is all about!!
