Sheriff's Badge vs Elemental Relic?

There’s a topic similar to this but it only asks about the Lady Fist; I’m asking about any elemental pistol. All things being equal, would a Sheriff’s Badge be better for other characters (in this case Axton) than an elemental relic when using elemental pistols like a Greed or Fibber (I thought about Allegiance relics but I’m trying to keep this simple…)?

Depends on a few factors, but usually the Sheriff’s badge gets better results.

Of course, there are things like more frequent Reloads, ammo consumption, diminishing yield if you already have a lot of fire rate boosts, no cooldown like a BotA and FR soft caps, but all things being equal, the Sheriff’s badge is better.

…If you’re using the Greed though, that huge fire rate bonus is lost and the elemental relic is much better

Relics that boost weapon type damage are outdone by elemental relics. The only way I would go with a pistol damage relic over element specific is if it shoots plain bullets. I came to this epiphany last week. I do WAY more damage with my hellfire with a fire bone of the ancients than a SMG relic. I also prefer element relics because you don’t have to use multiple weapons that are eating the same ammunition type. Instead of having 4 pistols, you can use any weapon type and get a boost from the relic.

The point here is that the Sheriff’s badge provides a FIRE RATE bonus (as well as a small damage boost, which is almost irrelevant here)

It’s not the same as an aggression relic

Fire rate bonuses are about as good as multiplicative elemental bonus are.

But then you would have to use all fire weapons, which is an even less versatile setup than 4 pistols

This keeps getting overlooked in discussions about relics or COMs:

Giving up the Bone of the Ancients also means less time with free slag, less time with the extra damage dealt by the turret, less time with Battlefront up, etc. You’ll actually spend slightly less time actually using your work guns, because you’ll be swapping back and forth to slag when the turret is down.

There’s also the matter of aggro management. More turret = more time where you can square up and rain damage, instead of shooting while running and jumping.
All things being equal
As in, we’re not sweating the cooldown loss or are concerned with boosts from the COM, etc. As @Chuck80 says, it’ll come down to the specific pistol? A Bone should increase the damage of each shot, but the fire rate from the Sheriff’s Badge should overcome that by way of throwing more lower-damage projectiles downwind in the same amount of time (especially since you’re not being interrupted with as many reloads).

I’m trying to think of a pistol where this difference would be hugely obvious, but so many pistols have a decent fire rate already. The Logan’s Gun would, but I’m not sure anyone else uses that. Maybe the shotgun barrel Fibber or Flynt’s Tinderbox?

Actually I’m running this vs Terra with Mike Irons. Weapon load out is a newly farmed Hot Button Lady Fist, DPUH (I think it has a Dahl grip?), level 42 Slagga and Scalable CC (for tentacles). Shields are Bee or Evolution while the com is L. Engineer. Slag is also provided by a Sticky Lobbed Bouncing Betty for tentacle phases and a MM to regen ammo/slag Terra directly when there’s no chance to rush out and snag more ammo. To somewhat answer my own question the cooldown rate of the elemental relic really helps with getting the turrets out more often and enjoying the benefits from having them active but during his fire phases the DPUH w/Sheriff’s Badge helps keeps him at bay with the increased fire rate it offers, which is a great help since the cool down isn’t as fast. Considering that I got sucked into his black hole attacks the last two time I tried him I may throw a point into Phalanx Shields just in case. Thanks for the responses gents…
I remember trying that and I remember thinking that the turret didn’t last longer than the singularity? I use Phalanx with Hyperious to block his novas, but I immediately recall the turret when the novas are done so it’s on deck for the next set. I don’t recall if it blocks Terra’s lasers either? It’s been a while since I played around with them.

IIRC the turret’s Phalanx Shield can block the black hole attack of regular threshers- I thought I read it somewhere that it worked on Terra as well? Oh well- I may try it and find out for myself…

It definitely does for the local Rift/Wormhole Threshers, and also does for Terra, but while the turret on a fresh deployment can totally outlast a Rift/Wormhole Thresher, I thought Terra’s duration was too long?

Depends on how much damage you can do to him- the more you do the shorter the duration of the attack…

Oh wow, I don’t think I knew that!
