After so long I still can't figure auto scaling!

Meh, my bad.

This game still rocks today, I’m actually streaming it live right now!, but I can’t just figure out how does the auto scaling works.

In short, I’ve got a Siren Lvl 69, took story quests only, no side quests accepted, they are just there ready to be taken. Neither DLC’s are triggered. The final boss is dead, Vault Key returned. No missions active.

Still, all side quests are on their respective Lvl, it’s just me or it didn’t work for me?, or auto scaling only applies on rewards?.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what playthrough you’re on. If you’ve finished Playthrough 1(PT1) by entering the vault area then your world should be set to whatever PT1 ends at(somewhere around level 30 or so).

In PT2, the gameworld will scale to your level as soon as you step foot in the vault boss arena. You don’t even have to kill it, but as soon as you zone in the game will scale vanilla, DLC1, and DLC4 to your level. In order to scale DLC3 to your level you have to complete the main quest in DLC3.

We call the point where the game scales to your level “PT2.5”.

This is a pretty good OP to check out if you have other questions on this. The Ideal Playthrough for Borderlands 1

My bad, should have clarified im on Pt. 2.

Yeah, I know I don’t have to actually kill The Destroyer, I haven’t while I farmed XP from Guardians to hit 69.

Mobs, drops, chests and vending machines have scaled nicely, but those sidequests haven’t!. I still haven’t taken any until I find out what’s up.

Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, well, rewards that come from quests will always be locked at the level they’re designated. So if you’re turning in the Skagzilla quest, you’ll get a level 40something Elephant Gun every time. However, most if not all of those unique items also have a chance to drop from select enemies, usually related to that quest. And drops from enemies/chests scale to their source.

Scar drops T.K.'s Wave, Moe drops the Lady Finger, Skagzilla drops the Elephant Gun, the list goes on.

Too bad missions don’t scale up. I really hope this is been corrected on BL2’s UVHM.

This game can become very grindy to farm uniques from side bosses =/.

Thanks again, while upsetting, it’s useful info.

BL2 UVHM: yes and no. If you haven’t accepted the mission, it keeps rescaling to your level. Once you accept the mission, you lock the level of the mission reward. If you level up before turning in the reward, the game also levels up around you, but the reward doesn’t. (This is why randoms accepting missions you were saving while you’re still levelling are so annoying.) The good news, of course, is that you can reset your entire UVHM playthrough any time, so you can replay the entire story at max level as many times as you want.

Thanks, so that means I can just leave any sidequests hanging as long as I want, provided the game doesn’t mess my char up.

What about TVHM?, does the scaling part apply as well?. While there’s plenty of extra content for BL2, I don’t think the whole playerbase have any/both UVHM purchased.

Fixed ranges for each mission, with the map & enemies being set on first entry (apart from certain ones that do reset at specific story points.) Final maximum is 50. If someone doesn’t have the UVHM expansion packs, that’s the highest your character can go. With the first expansion, you will continue earning XP to level 61, the second takes that to 72, and then if you run Digistruct Peak enough times you get to OP8 (effectively level 80, but it’s a bit more complicated than that.) Anyone playing on PS4/XB1 is going to have all the packs, though, so even if they don’t play UVHM they’ll still level up a bit above 50 (increasingly slowly - I think you can get to about 55 or 56 in TVHM that way, but it’s painfully slow.)

You’ve been very informative and helpful. Thanks a lot dude.

Well, assuming that the OP is talking about Borderlands and not about BL2, I think there is some kind of misunderstanding…

No misunderstanding. The topic switched from BL1 to BL2 somewhere around post 5 or so.

My bad, I didn’t saw it

No problem! Thread drift is a fact of life…
