Nisha vs Aurelia For Solo Play (Resolved!)

I’ve played wilhelm to lv 30 and felt he is not that fun. And it bothers me that he eventually turn mad and died in BL2. I haven’t played Lynchwood (So I don’t know what happened to Nisha SO DON’T SAY ANYTHING).

Anyway, I am choosing another character to play solo. I know people gonna say Nisha straight up cause she is op and stuff. But I wanna know first;

  1. Is there a learning curve to playing Nisha? I can get easily bored if it is too easy. I like doing a lot of research on how to build a character when I play my games, which I did for Axton and Krieg.

But in the end, I managed to play both decently but I never felt truly badass when fighting raid bosses. I wanna feel badass with enough practice!

  1. I heard a lot of people say that Aurelia is very squishy. Is she super hard to play solo? I am planning to play all the way to UVHM of course.

I saw Aurelia’s trailer and she looks so badass. And I saw her skill ‘I never miss’, and it sounds awesome! Is it awesome?

I hope someone can give me some insights. Thank you so much in advance!

Update: After much input, I chose Jack in the end! Thanks @narfkeks @boombumr @LunaticOne @jhunter922

Aurelia is great for crowd-control, but she has immense problems against bosses, especially raids. This is due to her reliability to kill skills and cryo, which most bosses either resist or are completely immune to (the dot at least). And yeah, she is squishy as hell and her best source of healing is also a kill skill - absolutely suboptimal for bosses. She is very gear dependent too.
Nisha is a bit gear dependent and squishy as well, but to an lesser extend as Aurelia.
The problem here is - if you get bored from a game too easy - Nisha and a Crapsbooter-com or the Legendary coms is the definition of easy-mode! First, you will feel like a God, but after some time, you WILL get bored, even with suboptimal gear.

I would recommend using either Athena or Timothy (Jacks double). Both of them have great synergies in their respective kits, are interesting to play, not too easy or a bit harder to master for bosses (Athena at least, but once mastered, she becomes a total monster!), they offer a lot of options and are viable in 100% of the game and all of its dlc’s. Both are cool characters, too, if you ask me.

If you like a lot of power-play and some kind of randomness, there is also Claptrap, but you know, his action skill is half-random which is not everybody’s thing.
I main clappy and Timothy on PS4 and all but Wilhelm (such an uninteresting character!) on PC.

I have everyone at 70 except Wilhelm; IMO there is no learning curve to Nisha, it’s very easy and straighforward, and she does get boring. You can literally play with your eyes closed when you have the right gear/setup. If you’re looking to speed-kill things for farming and wreck everything with auto-aim in a matter of seconds, she’s probably your best bet.

Aurelia and Athena are my personal favorites. I had no problems with Aurelia until UVHM; some of the boss fights were kinda tough, but if you have a decent build and keep updating your gear, you’ll be alright.

between the 2 that you’ve mentioned I would go with Aurelia as she is almost as OP as Jack or Wilhelm (of those 2 I focus more on Jack), as for her skill trees I take it down the first and second trees and don’t bother with any points in the third tree (just my preference).

not really with the right build, I play her both solo and co-op

unfortunately the game as a whole is easier then BL 2, my suggestion if you play one character at a time, make several of it and play each different to determine which feels better for your play style. Me, I’ve made 2 or more of each character (all at different levels) and switch between them if I find myself getting bored with one

Wow I am so surprised that I will get such a long answer! Thanks! Ohhh mannn. She is really bad at raid bosses huh. I thought people were just over reacting. Gear dependent is quite scary too:/ She looks so cool i wish she was more balanced!

Hmm yeah I wanna be a God but only after super long hours of playing! Probably gonna avoid her.

HOLY CRAP. Timothy is Jack’s double??? Damn! I thot it was Handsome Jack himself! Now it all makes sense!! I didnt even consider Timothy because I hated Handsome for being so cruel! But now I will consider him too. I heard he is strong. Yeah Athena is cool too. Just watched Tales from the Borderlands haha.

Oooh you main him huh. Would you recommend it to a relatively new guy like me? I have only cleared normal mode once haha.

Yes wilhelm is so uninteresting! He felt like a copy of Axton

Hey thanks for the input! Yeah probably gonna avoid her for now!

You could solo with Aurelia all the way to UVHM???

Hey thanks for the input! But isnt she weak against raid bosses?

Wow interesting. This is the first time I heard Wilhelm is OP or any good haha! Is he good at raid bosses?

How many do you have in total 0.0? I never thought about making multiples of one character. This is so interesting. I can immediately guess that you dont have to horde so many items on one character to play around with different builds. Learnt sth new! But does TPS have a storage problem as well?

Wilhelms biggest pro is his stable playstyle. He is like some good running machine: Precise and does his Job. He has a lot of survivability. I can’t stand his character though.
And his damage potential is utterly disappointing on raids.

Aurelia is the only character in TPS that more-or-less needs transfusion grenades in boss fights. She still is really fun to play. She just suffers on bosses.

Athena starts relatively bland until you get the first game changer. Especially Smite changes the playstyle of Athena early in-game. Her Maelstrom-abilities transform her into a really good boss-killer, once you get the hang of it. Warning: Her Maelstrom can crash your game on the last-gen-consoles! On PC, Ps4 and XBone, you will be fine though.

Timothy has some really interesting and funny things like Nova-spam, shieldsharing, kill-skill-activation for free with free second wind, pseudo-weapon-merging by design (sponsored by…), tankiness and survivability and a lot of power behind your actions. He really rewards creativity! If you ask me, he is the best designed character in the whole borderlands-franchise!

same as BL 2

6 Jacks at different levels
5 Wilhelms
4 Aurelia
2 Claptrap
2 Gladiators
1 Lawbringer

the top 4 of my list do pretty well against raids
the bottom 2 weellll they haven’t gotten out of NVHM and I’ve had the game since Day one, as I said just have not been able to keep interest with those 2

Don’t forget the “Money is Power” Perk, 999 stacks of that and he is OP (use him to PL people, (999 stacks and a level 64 Glitch rifle and he Knocks off Level 71 Guardians like crazy)

Just saying, Aurelia can 1 shot the raids if you have a droog (the machine or longnail would work the best) and don’t mind COM swapping. Proof.

Against the Sentinel’s first form she is a disadvantage due to the lack of a crit spot, but for any other boss with a critical hit location it’s just a matter of killing them before they kill you.

Still, I’d suggest going with Jack as well. He has access to 3 of the highest DPS set ups in the game (infinite red glitch maliwan laser, flayer spam, and tediore chucking), has a lot of build vriety, and is very noob friendly with his pets.

In all honesty, if you factor survivability into the OP equation, TPS’ most OP classes are (imo of course)

  1. Athena- near complete damage immunity to most frontal attacks, up to 4000% elemental damage, infinite ammo, and fire rates that can break your console.
  2. Jack- Infinite on demand kill skills, ridiculous survivability and health regen, near infinite ammo, MiP, and a host of other things too numerous to list.
  3. Nisha/Claptrap- Both have stupid damage (Nisha from Tombstone and any combination of high noon, hot lead, or other stuff; claptrap from OLT) and a fair bit of survival. They fall just short of the top in terms of damage however.
  4. Aurelia- She has more raw on paper damage than anyone, and she is no slouch. But she is balanced by being fairly squishy. Like Zero, most of her survival comes from not being hit. If she can’t freeze or knock back an enemy, she can’t defend against it. Hence why she has difficulty in raids.
  5. Wilhelm- In terms of raw damage, he is so far below the others that his survival skills don’t make up for it. And really, when compared to Jack (who shares a lot of the same characteristics as Wilhelm) he is worse in just about every respect.

If you’re goal is to feel badass but feel like you’ve earned it, then Athena, Jack, and Clappy are good choices.

Yeah I felt the same with Axton for most of my playthrough with him.

Ooh thats a useful tip!

Oh for Athena, I am on PS4 so I should be fine

I remember someone actually makes a post about Timothy being the best designed character in TPS. Was it you? o.0 haha.

Man now my choices are Aurelia, Timothy, Claptrap and Athena. Nisha is out! Haha shyt my choices just expanded!

Just one little correction: it’s + 400% elemental damage, not 4000%.
So, she can get up to five times the elemental damage plus just as much fire rate and up to 100% less ammo consumption. But, that’s not all that easy to achieve. Very possible, but you have to play with weapon swapping for the ammo-saving and extra fire rate.
Your best bet would be youtube: I think @Derch has made Videos for both Athena and Jack. Give 'em a look!

damnnnnnnnn hahaha

6 FREAKING JACKS? Wait you got me really curious! Can you describe to me what you do in one random regular week? Like I am not sure if you spend a week playing only those 6 Jacks or not!

Wow wilhelm is good against bosses? Or you just like it that he looks like a badass? hahaha

Wooooo. Damn so tough to choose!! Sounds like the max Level this time is 64?

Max-lv is 70. The 64 Laser was just to point out how powerful Money is Power is. For every pocket of Money you get 0,25% Weapon Damage. So, with the max of 999 MiP you will have 249,75% extra Weapon damage. Enough to kill a Level 71 enemy with a Level 64 gun!
And yeah, Wilhelm IS good as a boss Killer. He just needs double the time of the others to kill them. But I killed all bosses on Level 60 in UVHM without much problems.
Like I said above: He runs like a good-oiled machine, but a slow one.

Oh damn I havent fought that first boss in the video! Hahaha just spoiled myself! Anyway that damage was crazy! Hmmmm Jack. Would you say he at least have a small learning curve? Or he is too easy?

4000%?? Damn! And I am so scared that Aurelia will feel like Krieg, in the sense that I have to die fighting a raid boss 20 times before I get how to beat the boss. And I saw in the video that she got 6 kill skills in total? Whut! hahaha.

@narfkeks @LunaticOne @jhunter922 Ok guys, I have narrowed down to these choices- Tim, Athena and Claptrap. @boombumr narrowed it down spot on for me haha. Sadly I have to remove Aurelia and play her when I understand the game mechanics further. Those kill skills are just too daunting.

Ooh ok hahaha. 4000% is just crazy!

Ohhhhhhh. Haha weapon swapping is a minus for me. I have no problem clawing with my right hand, but somehow I have problems clawing with my left

I’ll give that vid a watch!

Timothy has a slight learning curve, because you have to get the rhythm of his playstyle. Knowing when to activate your digijacks and what combination of brands would serve the Situation, is something you will have to learn. But its not that Big of a deal. Timothy’s playstyle either favors extremely high Mobility or very slow pacing, depending on your built: do you want your digijacks to die as much as possible? Then run like a B****! You like your badass-jacks and want to keep them? Stay near them!
Timothy also needs a fair bit of situational awareness, just cause the novas (from your skills and the shared Nova shields) can blow up barrels and because your Maliwan-brand-bonus from Sponsored by… could be resisted. Timothy even has some sort of hyperion-allegiance, if you’d like to use it.

Oh so we are getting 69 points to play with rather than 68. Going off-topic but they should bring those numbers down in Borderlands 3 haha. It’s like the more points they give, the harder it is to balance. There is just too many combinations haha.

Yeah I can imagine wilhelm doesn’t die much huh.

We get 68 points which means, that you could, in theory, get all 3 capstones of one character with ease.

Willy is like a Terminator, but without that cool style. And without that power. I remember my first time fighting Iwajira at Level 60 with Level 50 gear in UVHM. It was like: ooh sht, i need ammo to throw my IVF, so Call and recall wolf and Saint for Overcharge to give me free ammo. I get hit, while my drones are on cooldown, divert Power saves my sorry ass. My thoughts were something like: o sht, now I have to wait another half minute for divert power to come off cooldown to save me again. So I ran until my drones were ready again. Overcharge again, let Saint heal me just above healthgate, then throw the IVF a few times, recall W&S just in time to get saved again by divert power.
It was a f*cking long fight…

Holy crap! I didnt realize that! But I’m guessing no one really get all 3 capstones together? But funny why they make it so easy to max a skill tree.

It sounded SUPER long!
