I know her middle tree received buffs. I am really bad at this game and FPS in general. The reduced accuracy on anarchy sounds like an absolute killer.
You can play Gaige without using Anarchy at all, just invest in DT more; stay away from his 1-point skills: buck-up, the clap, and death stare because they take him out of the fight while he’s doing whatever he’s doing. Up-shot robot is a great one, though, and you should definitely take that one. Just know going in you’re going to be missing out on a lot of her and DT’s extra damage, but it’s still do-able.
What Gulfwulf said plus consider a low Anarchy build as there are plenty of weapons in the game that are still very accurate with a low to moderate amount of stacks. You can use Discord to control your amount of stacks and pick up fire rate and accuracy buffs and health regen while it is running. Team that with Rational Anarchist and you can run a “Discord loop” between 25 and zero stacks. Going at least that far down the OC tree also enables you to pick up Robot Rampage (one of the 1 point skills for DT, along with Upshot Robot, that you do want to take if you are buffing DT) and to pick up Blood Soaked Shields (“BSS”) which is one of Gaige’s best survival skills. BSS is particularly useful if you are going to take Sharing is Caring in the BFF tree in order to give DT a roid (melee) shield as triggering BSS negates the big recharge delay that most roid shields tend to have. Check out some of Neff’s builds as to how to buff DT. If you are on PC, feel free to hit me up on Steam as I am always happy to do some runs with a fellow Gaige player._
Ill try a low anarchy build with focus on DT thanks for the replies guys
What playthrough are you on? Even in UVHM, if you slag a flesh-based chump, The Stare can kill them in one go. If it’s not slagged, the enemy isn’t a chump, or it’s not flesh based, the skill is probably best used in earlier playthroughs (which really does limit its effectiveness). What’s nice about it for those target types though is that it’s derp-free: no matter how dodgy the target is, Deathtrap can’t miss. If this is your first rodeo with Deathtrap like this, skip it for now.
For my one Anarchy-free Mechromancer, I do put a point in it just to get Robot Rampage, which is one of his few skills that can reliably kill enemies in UVHM (I just burn off the Anarchy with constant Discord).
Also - if you’re playing a support role for Deathtrap type of combat (which I thoroughly enjoy on occasion), give One Two Boom a try. When you first spawn deathtrap, if you’re at a medium distance to a mob (ideally not aggro yet), get one in your crosshairs and summon; he should begin immediately with a One Two Boom shot, which will be an easy hit. If you’re too far away, he’ll fire it off, then zoom past it into the mob, who will then disperse, and when you eventually pop the shot, it may miss. I think he bats around 800 for how effectively he uses it in subsequent combat (really the issue is that, on occasion, he’ll fire it in the ground where you can’t shoot it). There are few things in the game as satisfying as decimating a mob with this.
If you’re new to that skill, practice listening for the windup sound, which gives you, what, four seconds of prep time to slag everything you can, switch to a weapon that can pop the shot, and then get into position for the kill.
Consider using singularity grenades for strategic mob placement; I’d be on the lookout for whatever has a longbow trigger with the shortest fuse time, and any damage on top of that is just bonus. When you see him wind up for Explosive Clap, One Two Boom, or Robot Rampage, use these to condense the mob as needed, and besides maximizing his own damage, maybe you can get Shock Storm to proc. I’ve only done this like twice, but it’s brutal.
I started Gaige down the LBT tree when I first played her and didn’t even consider OC until I had to face Terra at the end of TVHM. It’s entirely possible to do a non-Anarchy Gaige but it’s amazingly fun to kill a roomful of bandits (even the ones behind cover) when Close Enough and The Nth Degree kick in with 600 stacks of Anarchy…
I never use Anarchy with any of my Gaige characters. I always go with a BFF/LBT build.
I’ll add my voice to the chorus of folks who started Gaige, looked at the description of Anarchy, and went, “Nope!”. That said, I do now have a non-anarchy, a semi-anarchy (moderate stacks up to 200) and working on a full anarchy Gaige, just for fun. As mentioned, Close Enough can help offset Anarchy, so it is no where near as bad as fear and inexperience make it. Plus, there’s always Discord as an option when needed.
I, too, dragged Gaige to UVHM before I gave Anarchy a try. Now I have two Mechromancers: one who uses Anarchy as the focus of her combat (Bandit allegiance), and another who does not (Maliwan allegiance). They’re both fun in my opinion - very few of Gaige’s skills aren’t something I enjoy in combat.
@wowscapewow - Sorry, one other thing I should have mentioned is that you might want to check out Poka’s leveling guide for Gaige in normal mode. There is probably a link on the forum but if you google “Gaige Leveling Guide Normal Mode” it should throw up a link straight to it. Well worth a look and it provides a good perspective on the “to Anarchy or not to Anarchy” question.
@Carlton_Slayer Entirely agree that Normal and TVHM don’t require Anarchy although some of the raid bosses in TVHM are going to be more difficult and success against them becomes much more gear dependent without Anarchy. I am also sure that there are players out there who can get by without Anarchy in UVHM but when it comes to the raids, some of the arenas and the overpower levels, Poka’s quote in the DDD skills guide about “Mr Brick Wall” does come to mind …
However, I think even Normal mode (latter stages) and TVHM are easier with a moderate amount of stacks and Blood Soaked Shields than without and I got the impression that the OP was looking for options that would make life easier rather than to increase the challenge at this point.
@ everyone - Please don’t deluge me with posts about how LBT Gaige can faceroll TVHM and regular UVHM. Believe me, I know and have done entire UVHM play throughs focused on LBT and most of my OP8 builds still have around 26 points in the LBT tree. I am just saying that a few stacks and BSS is likely to make life easier for the OP. Even for those who love the LBT tree (myself included), it is worth keeping in mind that that the gun damage boost from Anarchy is multiplicative with those boosts from WDT and a shock relic
This. Also, Gaige’s callouts at high stacks is some of the most fun you can have in any game bar none.
(He said in a voice laden with gloom and Weltschmerz.)
I laughed so hard the first time I heard “PLAYER? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” and “EVIL MANIACAL LAUGHTER”
She had me at “Smash the system!” After that things only got better.
With a few well-known exceptions, the voice actress really nailed it.
“I’ve got brain on my shoe- I kinda like it!”
