Raid boss help at OP levels?

So I’ve returned to playing this game after a long period of time (I quit around the time of Raid on Digistruct Peak because I did not enjoy the scaling of OP levels and it just becoming even bigger numbers). As I work my way through the OP levels on my Mechromancer (currently at OP6, I was just going to try to glitch speedrun OP7 and OP8, but I can’t) I’m stuck in a similar situation as before I quit; Raid bosses.

Mobbing isn’t difficult for me, I can do well on both my Mechromancer and Siren, and if I went back to another character, I could do it on them as well. However, I can’t deal with raid bosses on any character. The only one I’ve been able to beat is Pyro Pete, who is by far the easiest one and just consists of running in a circle.

Now here’s the embarrassing part; when trying to get a Norfleet for my now OP2 Mechromancer, I died twice out of 10 times on OP2 with my OP8 Siren. That’s a combination of the Rubi, Sandhawk, and Bee. I somehow died, which I presume to be me being unlucky with 3 novas at once that I didn’t see coming or react to, since my shield was able to tank two novas for the fight.

At level 72, with a 72 Sandhawk and 70 Bee I was unable to kill Terramorphus on my Mechro. I found it to be incredibly difficult, and I couldn’t get to any cover to hide from lasers. Even worse, I got double swiped by Terra himself, which led to me being insta-downed. At that point, I just left and have refused to go back.

When I hit OP8 on my Mechro, I want to start getting into killing the Invincibles. Whether that be on my Siren or my Mechro. The only issue for me is that they are exactly that; invincible. Terramorphus, Hyperius, Master Gee, Voracidous, and Ancient Dragons of Destruction. Is there any simple guides for how to get reliable kills on the bosses for any characters, but preferably one of the above. I’ve tried Hyperius at OP8 on my Siren and I just can’t keep up with the damage, even with the Rubi and all the different DoTs that I could put out to heal.

If the combat is already stifling at OP6, why are you pursuing OP8? Not that there isn’t a reason (the challenge, for deeper weapon buffs/difficulty adjustments, for example), but if the game isn’t fun anymore, there’s no pressure to otherwise get there.

As far as reliably soloing the raid bosses at OP8, you’re largely going to have to rely on a handful of one-off game-breaking weapon/skill combinations. Not being a raider myself, I’m only familiar with the standard fare.

Posts your builds and your main gear- once folks know that they may be able to help with advice. Also there’s that Pride Rock hiding space with Terra- keep the tentacles at bay that show up closest to you and there’s enough space to hide behind when the beams fire. And if Terra pops up next to you on the left jump up and move back to where the door for the cave is- his tentacle swipes won’t hit you there. The only raid boss I’ve done so far with Maya since the patch is Dexidious (I’m working my way thru the various dlc’s since I finished her OP8 run and let me suggest the Twisted Pimp build for Maya- it could help you out…)

PROCEED INFORMATIONAL DELUGE. I can’t help you much on the Mechro, as I’ve not really tried raids with her yet. I’ve done plenty as Maya though, so can confirm with a bit of practice and the right gear some are more than possible. I haven’t found a farmable way to solo all the raids yet, but a few I can do.

The most important thing for all classes, especially at OP levels, is to get a good source of health regen. A great way to do this is with Moxxi weapons, particularly the Grog Nozzle but also a Rubi. If you’re holding one of these in your hand, a portion of any damage you do will be returned as health. So if you’re holding the Grog, and throw a Fastball grenade or Phaselock an enemy, you’ll get your health back instantly. This will let you deal with health gating, which means as long as you have more than half your health, you can’t be killed in a single blow. Keep yourself above half health, and you can survive.

The bosses themselves. As said above, the key with Terra is to use the rock for cover. For Terra and Hyperius as well, I would use a Bee shield and get a fire Sand Hawk, though other good weapons are a Hellfire, Good Touch, fire Lady Fist, fire Kitten. I personally favour a Legendary Siren mod. This will give you a great cooldown which can be invaluable in both health regen with the Grog, and in keeping him slagged. Spec Ward fully and you get a massive shield boost which will keep the Bee functioning brilliantly.

Hyperius is a bit more tricky as there’s no real cover in his arena. He releases a pair of novas that will firstly drain your shield, then activate health gate. The trick is to keep getting your health back asap after that happens. In the first part of the fight, he will summon four loaders to shield him. Destroy 3 of these. Leave one untouched, and when it’s alone, whittle it down slowly. It will periodically stop shielding Hyperius and shield itself. In those times, pound Hyperius with as much damage as possible. When the loader dies, H will start leaping at you. Run out of the way as he does so! Keep up the run/gun approach, taking care to health regen with grog/phaselock, and you will manage to kill him.

Those are my favourite raids for solo. They take a bit of practice but it’s definitely possible.

Btw if you’re on Steam, do add me and we can do raids together. My own playing has been vastly improved by the advice and help of others (mostly from this forum) and much of what I say is passing on their knowledge :stuck_out_tongue: but I’ve really found it can be great fun doing OP stuff in coop. I got stuck and disenchanted with digistruct until I found some guys here who helped me out and reanimated my borderlands love affair (far too much - now I can’t do anything else. THANKS GUYS)

To add to what hattieinduni said, I’d recommend using either a Fastball, Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning grenade to use while your action skill is on cool down if you need to quickly heal. All three have a 0.0 fuse time if I’m not mistaken and the latter two regenerate. The thing I had to learn was that any damage you do while holding the Rubi or Grog nozzle heals you- you don’t have to cause damage with the weapon itself… There used to be a thread on the old boards about Maya and raid bosses- maybe check the Maya section and see if it’s been found?

Your best option for raiding with Maya is BeeHawking. Since the Sandhawk has slow projectiles, you have time to switch to the Lady Fist while the projectiles are still in the air. That way you’ll get a nice 800 % crit bonus. Works wonders on OP 8! :grinning: Even without this exploit, the BeeHawk-combo is still what gives her the highest dps. A regular Cat COM will be sufficient, but it’s recommended that you farm some Tubbies to get a Legendary Cat COM to max your dps.

The Good Touch + the Bee is also very strong, and it will also heal you for a portion of the damage, and for insta-healing, just do as @Carlton_Slayer says!

With some practice, you should have no problems taking down all raids, except Voracidous. He’s a major PITA! Especially on OP 8.
