I see a number of the Eridium shrines listed in the wiki that seem to be accurate, but I came across a purple colored one that said, “Defense” shrine. When I activated it, I got dark blue swirls around me, but couldn’t tell what effect I was getting. What is this? I want to say it buffs my shield, but I wasn’t in combat at the time, and couldn’t tell.
I don’t remember, but let me know if your findings don’t match what’s in the wiki and I’ll get it fixed. Thanks.
I’d like to Phone a Friend and enlist the help of anyone who happens to be playing through Tiny Tina’s DLC at the moment… it may be a while before I come across another purple shrine and figure out what it does, so I’m banking permission for a necro post here in case this takes a long time to figure out on my own.
It definitely did not alter the shield capacity, and at a glance I couldn’t tell if it was affecting recharge delay or rate, but “Defense” and the blue color of the swirls make me think it’s related to shield behavior.
Where was it located? I don’t mind taking a look to see if I can figure it out.
I believe there’s one in the ruins to the west when you first enter the Immortal Woods. There’s an ammo shrine next to it. There may also be one where the Duke of Orks spawns as well, but I’d have to go back there to be sure.
This particular one was at the beginning of the Mines of Avarice, where that one cart with the crumpets will eventually crash, but they seem to be randomized, so presumably it can show up anywhere. If I was going to roll the dice to check them out, the Immortal Woods has a bunch of them in the main temple ruins there, and Hatred’s Shadow has four of them just up the way from the entry point.
Alrighty then - a-prospecting we will go!
There is a melee shrine? Also the blue should be rocket ammo like the candy right?
So far I can confirm that the two shrines in Immortal Woods (in the Sacred Ruins, directly east of the Crestfallen Player) and the two at the entrance to the Mines of Avarice (one beside thefast travel, one near the track) spawn with a random type.
ammo shrines
damage shrines
speed shrines
melee shrines
defence shrines
- You can stack at least two effects (I did speed and ammo, and speed and defense)
- The defense appears to come in two flavours: a lilac flame that gives a blue circle visual effect, and a lightish red one that has a colour similar to the health vials.
- If you have a strong boost from BAR stats (mine is 19.1%), the shield regen isn’t noticeably different; without BAR enabled, it’s obviously speeding regen up. (That’s with the blue circle version.)
Speculation: the two different defense shrines are to boost either health OR shield, but not both at the same time?
From memory, there’s always at least one ammo shrine at the Handsome Sorcerer, to the right of the stairs up to the prison cells. I think the ammo shrines on the platform where you fight the Ancient Dragons may also be fixed?
Here are images of the one I’m asking about (lilac flame; blue circles):
I’m using an Amp shield and firing a shot to drain the shield a bit, and then timing the delay and recharge rate. I don’t notice any difference. Flat damage resistance? Elemental resistance? I’ve got my hands on one of these as I type this.
edit - I think it’s damage reduction, but I’m getting numbers all over the place (3% to like 500%). You definitely take less damage per shot. I’m trying to standardize a test now.
Also, “Orc dangerous, but lazy too” when they lose aggro
You can use your grenade without a mod to damage yourself and calculate the damage reduction. Post the before and after here and we can help with the math if need be.
It should work. And I’d suggest you unequip your shield and damage your health to prevent the inherent damage reduction explosive gets on shields from potentially effecting the results.
That’s the one I called “Lila” in my post above. Same as you I didn’t notice any obvious effect at first, but I did after removing BAR boosts. Not sure what that means. Should probably respec as well to get a proper test.
Edit: also, I think you’re right about damage reduction, but now I’m not sure if it was the one that gives the red or blue circles where I noticed I was being hit repeatedly, but neither shield nor health bars were dropping at all initially.
With BAR off and a shield (I did this with both an Evolution and a “Blast Proof” Big Boom Blaster), the shield took 40% less damage while under the effects of this shrine (from an un-modded grenade at close range), as well as from a Kerblaster round (just the torpedo, not the grenade).
If I take my shield off, leave BAR off, and take some damage on my naked health bar, my health immediately starts restoring while under the effects of the lilac Defense shrine. I also take way less damage, but since the restoration is immediate, I can’t get a definite reduction amount.
It doesn’t seem to reduce delay or increase recharge rate of the shield (and it’s obviously not increasing the capacity).
