This may have been covered on the old forums but I have no idea how to search them. Apologies if it has been.
A friend and I started playing co-op recently. We’re both PC players and had boxed retail copies back in 2009. We didn’t know each other back in those days.
In our current run, we were on the Dahl Peninsula and we passed a wrecked runner not so far from the hut with the treasure for “X Marks the Spot”. We both remembered that there was an optional mission there which, we think, led to you turning off pumps in the Rust Commons. I certainly remember turning the pump off by the entrance to Old Haven.
Neither of us have seen this mission for many years and we both assumed we’d imagined it. However, since we both have similar recollections from way back then, we wondered if this mission did exist at one point but was removed because it was bugged or whatever.
Are there any “old” players out there who remember this or is it known that such a mission was removed. We’d both be very interested to know.

That was a mission from one of the bulletin boards, IIRC.

I know that Scooter makes a reference to the local bandits trashing a lot of his vehicles (hence the burnt out wrecks in Dahl Headlands), and there is a part of the game where you have to take a bunch of them out. The “There’s Your Problem” mission does involve closing three valves in different locations. I don’t remember anything else that would fit your description. I didn’t play from launch though - I think I started about a year before BL2 came out?
Is it possible that what you remember is either a combination of different missions, or a game mod?
The only mission I can think of that involves turning off pipes in the Rust Commons is that hard-to-find sunflower mission. But that’s nowhere near the entry to Old Haven.
found and played - can’t believe i never found it before - the number of times i’ve been past that spot though i guess it’s pretty much always in the racer…
