Roland has more issues with Hyperion personnel crawling around amongst the bandit population, but this time the job is covert. He’s identified five of these moles that must be taken out without allowing yourself to be identified. The rules of this engagement are as follows:
- No enemy that might report you to the authorities can see you. If the combat theme starts and/or red dots show up on the minimap, you’ve been made. This includes any humans or robots, but not the local wildlife (but if the local wildlife stirs up the local humanoid/robot locals so they engage in combat, your cover has been blown). You may hear enemies talking about you (Goliaths confused at your disappearance, Marauders unsure if you’re a robot, Nomads chiding their fellows about being fooled by a hologram, etc.) These are fine as long as your cover isn’t blown.
- For non-Assassins, there is a separate league in which your competition is to see who can pull off these kills with the least amount of minimap awareness.
- You have to get in, kill the target, and get out without being spotted. Specifically, you have to start and end at the map’s Fast Travel post. If there is more than one, you may use either for ingress and/or egress.
- There is a potentially cheap yet legit method that someone may try. If you actually try it, you get a half point for creativity, but no credit for the mission. I’ll let you know if anyone tries this
- You may use any character, gear, skill, or method you like; BAR may be on, you may drive vehicles, you can do co-op, whatever, but you have to be in UVHM. That said, this is largely meant to be done with Zer0… by the third mark, I’m not sure it’s possible with anyone else, but you’re welcome to try.
- You may opt to kill as many of the enemies that stand between you and your quarry as you like as long as you don’t get reported for any of them. There is no time limit.
- There is no reward for these other than answering Roland’s call and to show off your sneaking skills (and maybe learning how to sneak around yourself if you’re not already a seasoned assassin).
- Since this is just for fun, video proof is optional (but if you pull it off for the last one, you really should record and publish it). At the very least, post a reply stating your character, your weapon, and your technique for the successful ambush.
I’ll reveal a new bounty each week (depending on the responses), which increase in difficulty. With that in mind, your first target is Boll. This is beginner mode, just to make sure you know how to kill with one shot without alerting your target.
With Boll down, Foreman Rusty is our next mark. As always, a one-shot kill is needed to prevent him from reporting you, but this time there is some low-level sneaking involved. If you’ve attempted to farm Rusty for his Black Hole drop, you may already be familiar with a working route. For the record, I never knew where his crit spot was until I tried this (made the kill much easier ).
Up next: your target is Hunter Hellquist. This is where we move into intermediate assassin territory. Think he’s easy to sneak up on? Very! Think he’s easy to kill without alerting him? No! Think you can evade the Loader reinforcements that get called down upon his death? Let’s see! It is possible, but you’ll need to get creative with your tactics. Even if you’re not going to compete in this, you should go visit Hunter Hellquist as if you were, so you can see what the contestants are up against (you can always save and quit if you don’t want to scrap, or you can gank the subsequent mob and maybe get a Bee shield). Remember - this has been opened up to all playthroughs, so if you have an Assassin this far in the game, give it a spin.
Laney isn’t particularly difficult to kill, especially if you have the element of surprise… you just need to dodge a nest full of Rats to do it.
The Sheriff of Lynchwood is up next - the town is crawling with Bandits, Marauders, and her Marshalls, all of whom need to be avoided on your way to taking her out.
Mortar is up next… buried deep in the bowels of Sawtooth Cauldron and a tough nut to crack on his own, the hardest part might be escaping.
