[Guide] Damage over time values

I was making some research for a build and since I got all the numbers already, I might as well share them here. (plus, It will be simpler to just link here than to explain it all from the start there.

This is a list of weapon sources of Damage over time (DoT from here) such as burn, corrode and electrocute.
It might be of little interest to most, but some Gaige and Krieg players might get something out of this.

##What affects DoT values ?

For guns, the only things that will affect DoT values are item level and some Maliwan part. The gun’s rarity or type has no effect whatsoever.

For grenades, a part called the “Statusdamage” will have a grade that varies from 0 to 5, and will be the sole factor determining a grenade’s DoT. This time, rarity plays a factor as it determines what grade is possible. White rarity can only spawn with grade0 to grade2, while purple and legendaries will always spawn with grade2 or higher.

In both cases, some unique items will break those rules, I will list them separately.

##Base values

I will list items by their base value. to get the DoT value of a specific item, all you have to do is multiply that number by 1.13^x where X is the Item’s level.

Still, by themselves, these numbers should be enough to create a simple basis for comparison.

##Guns:

Note: while all other Maliwan guns have increased values, Maliwan snipers receive almost no bonus (they get 0.2 damage per second more no matter the level, which looks to me like a number at the wrong place in an equation)

Most guns: 8
SMGs, Pistols and Rocket Launchers with Maliwan barrel: 9.2
Maliwan SMGs, Pistols and RLs: 9.6
Maliwan SMGs, Pistols and RLs with matching barrels: 10.8

Rubi and Roaster: 9.6
Hellfire: 11.2
Thunderball Fist: 11.44
Good Touch and Crit: 12.24
Logan’s Gun: 13.2
Teapot: 16
Infection: 21.6

##Grenades

Common grenades can spawn with grade 0 to 2
Uncommon grenades can spawn with grade 0 to 3
Rare grenades can spawn with grade 1 to 4
Very rare and Legendary grenades can spawn with grade 2 to 5
The Leech can spawn with grade 3 to 5

Most grenades:

  • Grade0: 20
  • Grade1: 21.2
  • Grade2: 22.4
  • Grade3: 23.6
  • Grade4: 24.8
  • Grade5: 26

Quasar, Stormfront and Breath of Terramorphous:

  • Grade2: 22.8
  • Grade3: 24.2
  • Grade4: 25.6
  • Grade5: 27

Crossfire:

  • Grade2: 23.4
  • Grade3: 24.6
  • Grade4: 25.8
  • Grade5: 27

Fire Bee:

  • Grade2: 22
  • Grade3: 23
  • Grade4: 24
  • Grade5: 25

Fireball / Firestorm:

  • Grade2: 32.4
  • Grade3: 34
  • Grade4: 35.2

Chain Lightning

  • Grade2: ??
  • Grade3: 39
  • Grade4: 48

Lightning bolt:

  • Grade2: 48
  • Grade3: 57
  • Grade4: 66

I’m also missing values for shields (Nova and spike) but those would require actual testing as they don’t display DoT damage on the card.

Skills could be added too later on (Helios, Cloudkill, Ruin, Backdraft, Shock storm, Shock and Aaaargh, Unforseen, Nuke, Hellfire Halitosis, Fire Fiend… I’m probably forgetting a few.)

That’s all! Hope it helps some of you, or at least that it was entertaining to read

I’m usually torn between using a Lightning Bolt and a Chain Lightning… it’s tough to beat the linking effect, but that’s a heck of a value on the Lightning Bolt. Where are these values plugged into the equation? As the coefficient?

Also, I think the Leech is orange rarity, no?"

I could be remembering wrong, but I think the Logan’s Gun has much higher DoT than other weapons.

Fixed and added, thanks

It’s the same basic equation for about 80% of the stuff that scales in the game

Got it, thanks!

edit - note to self: OP weapon levels are not 0 through 8! #derp

I could be wrong but in my mind, the Bad Touch has a better DoT than a Maliwan SMG of same level/parts, no ?

Edit : and btw, very nice work Sire !! I was wondering for a long time how the Base DoT formula works and you showed it to me !! Thks !!

Thanks.

I did check the bad touch (especially since the good touch has better than normal DoT) and it has a normal value for a Maliwan barreled Maliwan SMGs.

For sure, that’s why it isn’t the Moxxi’s favorite gun ! (or maybe the vibrating Good Touch has something more…? )

I will try to add a list of all the enemies that are immune to all elemental status effects, if I’m forgetting some, please tell me:

Constructors (and their badass versions)
Saturn
Dukino’s Mom (Slag only)
Crystalisks

Crystalisks are immune to DoTs as well. Also, aren’t LLMs only immune to DoTs if you shoot them while they are in the air?

How you got these values? Lv1-2 gear card info? Also Cloud Kill is not Dot damage.

Extrapolating data from item cards

I assumed DoT were subject to the same 1.13^Level scaling as most things in the game, and from that assumption, I reversed the equation with values I had from gear of different level. I got very clear results and it worked with everything else I tried it with, so I concluded I was right. and applied that formula to get the values for the exceptions in the OP

In and of itself no, but it can spark (a weak) DoT like most other sources.

Yeah thats what ive thought. Ive missed this one somehow. How do you plan to test out the skills?

I have no idea :stuck_out_tongue:
a few of them are hard to test since they are kill skills, and DoT damage tend to have some variation in actual play (values will fluctuate from tick to tick even in the same instance) so getting hard numbers is pretty hard.

Hellfire Halitosis is probably the easiest to test…but also the one people care the least about.
My quick tests with Shock and AAAGH! suggest that it’s somewhere in grenade range (22 or so), but I can’t be more precise than that.

It probably scales the same way as everything else.

check wiki page, maybe one can dig out some useful info. But the main reason why im posting this link is because whoever created that page have used the damage breakdown thread from old gbx forums as reference, which is nice.

Lightning bolt:
I don’t see grade 1 as an option, and I got 48 for grade 2, I assume that’s a mistake?

  • grade2: 48
  • grade3: 57
  • grade4: 66

Chain Lighning:
I don’t see grade 5 as an option, and I got 48 as grade 4, same deal as LB.

  • grade3: 39
  • grade4: 48

Fire Storm:
Same deal as CL, I think it only has grades 2-4, i got 32.6 as rank 2

  • grade2: 32.6

Fireball:
I only saw grades 2-4 for the FB as well.

  • grade2: 32.6
  • grade3: 34
  • grade4: 35.2

WTF:
All maliwan parts, I havn’t tested if they effect DoT damage.

  • ~5.35

source:

Honestly, I’m a bit disapointed with the WTF buff, I think it woule have been cool with a base damage of 15-ish, concidering the self damage, but hey, it’s better than 1 damage, sowhatever.

I don’t have all the numbers for those, I just put the few values I had where I thought they belonged
Thanks for the info. I’ll edit this when I get back home tonight :slightly_smiling:

So even post-buff, that makes it the lowest DoT damage in the game by far… that’s weird, It should have been on par with other shields IMO (which are near grenade level… I just don’t have card values for them)

Edited the OP

my numbers on the Logan’s gun were dated (probably a loothunt buff that gearcalc doesn’t take into consideration)
Thanks Bew for the numbers
